2 Eligibility Requirements January 2, 2018-June 29, 2018 You must have completed the co-op preparation class during or before the Fall 2017 semester You must have a 2.0 GPA at the time you apply for a coop position You must complete the NUcareers Quick Start tutorial and the online web form at the end of this document by 9/22/17

3 Starting the Process January 2, 2018-June 29, 2018 You must fill out the web form at the end of this presentation You must schedule a meeting with your Co-op Coordinator to review your resume You cannot search for a job on NUcareers until your resume is approved and uploaded on NUcareers You must MEET ALL DEADLINES set by your co-op coordinator

4 Global Co-op Students interested in Global co-op MUST attend a Global coop information session. More information for this will be provided by your coordinator. Sign up here for a session. If you want to do a Global Co-op, you will work directly with your regular co-op coordinator AND the CAMD Global Co-op coordinator, Kellianne Murphy. If you are interested in pursuing a Global co-op, make sure you indicate it on the web form and schedule an appointment with Kellianne Murphy on myneu after you attend an info session. There are global scholarships available to students pursuing Global co-ops; these will be discussed at the info sessions.

5 Student Co-op Dashboard The Co-op dashboard is a student s landing space when accessing the Cooperative Education module of NUcareers. The Co-op Dashboard also includes shortcuts to Documents, Applications, On-Campus Interviews, and Upcoming Events.

6 NUcareers Help Using NUcareers, you can search through job postings, label jobs by priority, and apply for co-op and full time jobs. To help you get started on your co-op or career search, we have compiled instructional how-to articles and guided video tutorials on the NUcareers Help blog. For additional assistance, feel free to

7 Applying for a Job in NUcareers In order to provide employer with application documents, you must formally apply to all positions that you are actively seeking. Read each job description carefully, and do not apply to any jobs for which you are unqualified. Some jobs may require a cover letter or other materials be sure to follow directions within the job description before the job choice deadline (or you will not be considered). If the application requires a document type that you have not uploaded yet, you will be prompted to add the required document type.

8 For Students Receiving Financial Aid Some jobs will state in the job description that they require you to be qualified for Co-op Work Study. In order to apply for these jobs, you must provide your Co-op Coordinator with a form confirming you are eligible for these funds.** You can get this form at the Student Employment office in 271 Huntington Ave. There are limited funds for Co-op Work Study, so even if you are eligible to receive these funds you are not guaranteed a work study job. **To be eligible for these funds, you must be a US citizen and be awarded financial aid.

9 Creating Your Own Co-op In addition to applying for existing jobs in NUcareers, you can work with other organizations to create your own coop. Speak with your Co-op Coordinator before contacting a company; he or she can give you informational materials, can look over your cover letter, and can let you know if that company already has a job in NUcareers. If a company already has an existing position in NUcareers, you may not contact them individually about setting up your own co-op.

10 International Students Going on Co-op International students who wish to participate in co-op must: Receive CPT authorization from their co-op coordinator and the Office of Global Services (OGS) before starting a co-op. Have completed two semesters of study before going on co-op. Attend an OGS Information Session for international students interested in co-op. ***Failure to follow proper protocol can result in serious consequences affecting your immigration status in the U.S.***

11 Tips for a Successful Co-op Search Keep an open mind about the type of experiences you are willing to apply for, especially for your first co-op. Co-op is a competitive process, and employment is not guaranteed. Be prepared to face some rejection from employers, and to work hard throughout the semester to secure a position. Meet (or communicate) with your Co-op Coordinator often throughout your search process. Respond quickly to phone calls and s from your Coordinator and from employers.

12 Accepting a Job As a general rule, when offered a job, accept or decline the position within 2 business days. Once you have accepted a position, you may not change your mind and accept another offer. Let your Co-op Coordinator know as soon as you have accepted a job.
