1 BWC APPLICATION PACK Thank you for your interest in a position with Brighton Womens Centre (BWC). The application form will be used to shortlist and so all essential information contained within your CV which you wish to be taken into consideration, should be entered on the application form to ensure it is taken into account. The short listing panel will also look for examples of how your experience broadly matches the requirements of the job description, although it is not necessary to give examples for each point of the job description, in the same way that it is for the person specification. 3 BWC STAFF COMMITMENTS All staff will be committed to: 1. Share a commitment to and responsibility for work which extends and develops BWC services according to our stated aims. 5. Ensure women are informed of services provided by other agencies, where appropriate referred to them, and supported in their dealings with them. 6. Uphold our equal opportunities policy, and agreed anti-discriminatory practice guidelines. 7. Ensure that all staff and service users are aware of BWC's policies, rules, and complaints procedures, and that these are upheld and implemented. 8. A commitment to treat all staff and volunteers equally and with respect. 9. Maintain good relations with the local community, and with relevant women's and community groups, striving to learn from them and, in line with the Objects of BWC, meet their needs as they see them. 10. Uphold health and safety standards, providing a clean and safe environment for users of the service and staff, and also taking adequate precautions to maintain users' and staff's personal safety. 11. Ensure that appropriate boundaries are maintained between service users and staff at all times, that service users' privacy is respected, and that staff's personal contact details are not revealed. 12. 4 Brighton Women s Centre Engagement Support Officer JOB DESCRIPTION EMPLOYER: ADDRESS: JOB TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: BWC 72 High Street, Brighton BN2 1RP Engagement Support Officer Service Development Manager SALARY GRADE: 23,398 WORKING HOURS: 16 hours FIXED TERM: until August 2019 Background: BWC places clients at the heart of our services with a holistic and practical approach to enable women to achieve positive futures. This is a new role for BWC as part of a partnership project working with the Brighton Table Tennis Club (BTTC) and Friends, Families & Travellers (FFT) funded by Comic Relief. The key aim of the project is to improve health, wellbeing and future life opportunities of women in the city with multiple complex needs including those that are marginalised, homeless, insecurely housed or involved in the criminal justice system. The Engagement Support Officer will work with BTTC and FFT to encourage women to engage in table tennis to achieve physical and mental health benefits it offers. Job Summary: The Engagement Support Officer will work alongside the Volunteer Services Co-ordinator to maximise access and engagement in services to promote health and wellbeing for women. The Engagement Support Officer will adopt an Asset Based Problem Solving Approach to support women to build their self-esteem and enhance their engagement in specialist services. 5 Key responsibilities: 1. Support, Engagement and Referral: 1.1 To assess and support women to participate in table tennis and maximise engagement in other local health promotion initiatives, working with other health and social care agencies as appropriate 1.2 To adopt an asset based, flexible, woman-centred approach supporting women to recognise choice and develop strengths to enable them to move away from damaging lifestyles 1.3 To develop and build effective working partnerships with both statutory and voluntary organisations within the different health regions, collating, evaluating and disseminating good practice 1.4 To work with Volunteer Services Coordinator and Volunteers to support, mentor and coach women to participate in table tennis 1.5 To co-operate and work collaboratively with all partner agencies to integrate services and ensure effective working relationships with all those involved in support network 2. Administration, monitoring & evaluation: 2.1 To undertake consultation with key stakeholders regarding service development and innovations in the service 2.2 To keep up-to-date with local and national good practice, innovation and policy development on services that promote health and wellbeing 2.3 To identify and act on child protection/vulnerable adults at risk issues informing line manager and taking appropriate action 2.4 To write service review and evaluation reports as required 2.5 To participate in appropriate fundraising activities for the service 3. Health & Safety: 3.1 To explain BWC s policies, procedures and rules to ensure women understand and uphold them, particularly with regard to confidentiality, health and safety, child protection and anti-abuse 3.2 To ensure the premises owned, leased or used by the project are well maintained and that Health & Safety requirements are met as required by the Health and Safety at Work Act 3.3 Undertake Health and Safety checks and Risk Assessments

General Responsibilities: 4.1 To uphold the rights of women, advocating for them while offering protective strategies and appropriate safe services 4.2 To Ensure that BWC clients receive the best possible standard of support from the service 4.3 To prepare for and attend meetings and training as required, undertaking continuing professional development as required 4.4 To adhere to relevant legislation and keep up to date with relevant research, legislation, policy and practice relevant to the project 4.5 To promote and publicize BWC events and services 4.6 To act in accordance with BWC policies and procedures and ensure their effective implementation with particular regard to projects equality and diversity policy 4.6 To maintain the confidentiality and boundaries of the service and of BWC 4.7 To undertake any other such duties appropriate to the grade and character of the work as maybe reasonably required. There will be other duties and requirements associated with your job and, in addition, as a term of your employment you may be required to undertake various other duties as may reasonably be required. *This post is exempt under Schedule 9 pt.1 of the Equality Act 2010 BWC periodically reviews job descriptions to ensure that they reflect the requirements of the role as the service develops. This procedure is conducted by the Manager in full consultation with the jobholder in line with best practice employment guidelines. Probationary period: All posts within Brighton Women s Centre are subject to a three month probationary period. This post has been identified as involving access to vulnerable adults and/or children and successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced level Disclosure & Barring Service Check. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974). Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders, which have been made against them.
