DISCOVER POTENTIAL APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK

We ve set a 2020 target for 3% of our tier 1 and 2 supplier workforce to be apprentices improving skills in areas where they re needed most. WE RUN ON PEOPLE POWER An apprentice is someone learning a trade from a skilled employer, having agreed to work for a fixed period at low wages (Oxford English Dictionary). This Apprenticeship Framework for our managed portfolio outlines standards and provides guidance and support - driving consistency whilst allowing flexibility. Apprenticeships are a key part of the skills and opportunity strand of our Sustainable Strategy, through which we connect with local people and enhance local economies. This Framework helps us deliver on commitments in our Supply Chain Charter and Local Charter 2 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

OUR AIMS As we work towards our 2020 target for 3% of our tier 1 and 2 supplier workforce to be apprentices, we aim to: Place an apprentice in each of our assets, including our Head Office Develop and support meaningful, sustainable apprenticeships with appropriate training packages, creating real opportunities Help our supply chain, retailers, occupiers and communities source local people Build the future capacity of our supply chain and occupiers Encourage workforce diversification across our supply chain and occupiers Develop skills within our organisation, supply chain and occupiers. 3 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS OUR PORTFOLIO THE DIVERSITY OF OUR PORTFOLIO REQUIRES MANY SKILL SETS AND ROLES - PROVIDING LOTS OF APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES. Our portfolio covers both retail across the UK and London offices. Our properties are home to over 1,200 different organisations and rely on hundreds of suppliers. Potential apprenticeship roles include: Administration Customer services Electrical Facilities management Finance Marketing Landscape gardening Security Surveying Visual merchandising 4 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

WHAT TO EXPECT Apprentices require time, input and supervision, but this can repay dividends for your organisation. Managers need to support apprentices during their apprenticeship and onto their next employment step, whether in our supply chain, with other employers, or into more training Apprenticeships can last from one to four years depending on the apprenticeship level, the apprentice s ability and the sector Most apprenticeship training is on-the-job, working with a mentor to learn job specific skills in the workplace. Off-the-job training depends on the occupational area, training provider and employer s requirement, e.g. day release. Some apprentices complete all their training and assessment in the workplace, others off site Apprentices produce a portfolio of evidence. On completion, they must be able to undertake a full range of duties in circumstances appropriate to the job, confidently and competently to the industry standard. 5 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

FUNDING We re working towards all apprentices at our assets being independently funded by the asset. We re doing this on a phased basis. To help our sites get going on apprenticeships, we provide: Up to 50% funding for apprenticeships in our supply chain at our properties in year one Additional funding for travel expenses, uniform and lunch, considered on an individual basis Extra funding for The Source and other bodies to support property teams with apprenticeships (more on page 7). We also aim to provide guidance on recovering costs through the Apprenticeship Levy (page 10). A funding plan must be in place at the start of each apprenticeship for the full planned course. As we work towards all apprentices being independently funded by assets, we consider individual requests for funding. 6 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

MANAGEMENT SUPPORT We provide funding for The Source and other bodies to support property teams with apprenticeships. The Source Skills Academy is a leading retail and customer service training centre jointly established by British Land. Using The Source is optional. Other good local providers can be used instead, e.g. at Broadgate, we work with the East London Business Alliance (ELBA) on apprenticeships through Broadgate Connect. The Source and other providers can help: In decisions on the type of apprentice and appropriate training Write job descriptions and adverts Recruit, shortlist and interview potential apprentices Provide advice throughout the apprenticeship. 7 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

HOURLY RATES Apprenticeship hourly rates vary by sector and region. If you have any questions about appropriate regional wages, please contact the Broadgate Estates HR team. Standard Apprenticeship hourly rates Age Age 19+ (year 1) 3.40 Age 19+ (year 2) 5.55 Age 21+ (year 2) 6.95 Age 25+ (year 2) hits UK National Living Wage 7.20 Standard non-apprenticeship hourly rates Age Age Age Age 25+ hits UK National Living Wage 7.20 Non legally binding suggested hourly rates UK Living Wage 8.15 London Living Wage British Land Apprenticeship Framework

APPENDICES 1. The Apprenticeship Levy 2. Apprenticeship levels 3. Quick checklist 4. Our Supply Chain Charter 5. Our Local Charter 9 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

APPENDIX 1: THE APPRENTICE LEVY To drive productivity, the Government is committed to increasing the quantity and quality of apprenticeships in England to 3 million starts by 2020 a 35% increase compared to the previous five years. So, we re: Developing this Apprentice Framework with Broadgate Estates, targeting our tier 1 and tier 2 supply chain, covering roles across the managed portfolio Financially supporting up to 50% of the costs of some new apprentices to evidence the value of apprenticeships, with a view to reducing support year on year and the service charge ultimately directly sustaining apprentices Aiming to provide guidance on how to recover costs from the Levy as appropriate. 10 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

APPENDIX 2: APPRENTICESHIP LEVELS Level 1 (pre-gcse equivalent): applying knowledge in the performance of a range of varied work activities, most of which are routine and predictable. Level 2 (equivalent to five GCSEs A*-C): applying knowledge in a significant range of varied work activities, performed in a variety of contexts. Some of these activities are complex or non-routine and there is some individual responsibility or autonomy. Collaboration with others, perhaps through membership of a work group or team, is often a requirement. Level 3 (equivalent to two A Levels): applying knowledge in a broad range of work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts, most of which are complex and non-routine. There is considerable responsibility and autonomy. Level 4 (equivalent to a degree): applying knowledge in a broad range of complex, technical or professional work activities performed in a variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. Responsibility for the work of others and the allocation of resources is often present. 11 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

APPENDIX 3: QUICK CHECKLIST Identify apprentice opportunity Speak to Broadgate Estates HR about support Speak to The Source or another training provider about support Agree job role and description Confirm salary and benefits Agree recruitment process Plan management systems, supervisory arrangements, etc Advertise vacancy. 12 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

APPENDIX 4: OUR SUPPLY CHAIN CHARTER Local employment and procurement: we expect our suppliers to be proactive in offering local businesses and local people the opportunity to compete for work with them at our sites Skills and capacity building: we expect our suppliers to build local skills and capacity, by supporting apprenticeships, training and education in ways that represent best practice in their sectors, and by focusing on quality outcomes for participants Prompt payment: we expect all businesses in our supply chain to be paid within agreed terms Fair practices: we will not tolerate corruption, bribery or unfair, anti-competitive actions in our supply chain. 13 British Land Apprenticeship Framework

APPENDIX 5: OUR LOCAL CHARTER Connect with communities so we understand local needs Improve how local communities can influence decisions at our places Help local people progress by supporting local jobs and training Support educational initiatives for local people Grow local businesses by buying their goods and services Promote wellbeing and enjoyment Offer the local community opportunities. 14 British Land Apprenticeship Framework
