DIPLOMA IN FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT [PGDFM] A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PG DIPLOMA PROGRAMME: Today the world around us is changing rapidly, throwing open great challenges driven by the growing trend of globalization, e-commerce and e-business. Financial services like insurance, banking, project finance etc. are getting geared up for virtual delivery in a seamless digital world. The post graduate diploma in financial management (PGDFM) is a program with examination and project report and viva voce, designed to build a strong foundation in the area of financial accounting and financial management for all financial and non-financial working professionals and executives. This programme helps financial and non-financial working professionals and executives in understanding theory and practice of accounting and finance. This programme also provides contemporary ideas and practice of different areas of finance in this changing era from simple accounting to integrated control systems based on enterprise resource planning. OBJECTIVES OF PROGRAMME: The objectives of PGDFM programme include the following: 1 To impart basic knowledge of accounting and develop skill for understanding different areas of financial management in this global business world. 2 To interlink finance and other areas of management like production, sales, marketing, research and development, personnel etc. 3 To encourage graduates, professionals and executives to learn different areas of accounting and finance so that they can develop an interdisciplinary understanding and have overall perspective about business and its goals. ATTENDANCE: Attendance will be compulsory in the programme. A candidate whose overall attendance is less than 75% of the total number of lectures delivered in each subject individually will not be allowed to appear in the examination. 2
3 TEACHING FACULTY: Faculty will be drawn both from within the university as well as from the industry and professionals practicing in the related areas. Teaching Method: The teaching method of the programme is interactive and participatory in nature. The regular theory lectures will be supplemented by practical and case studies. There will be 90 lectures in each semester for each subject, which will be divided in 60 hours classroom teaching plus 30 hours for seminar. One hour per four students will be allotted for presentation in each seminar. Each student will have to give two presentation in each subject in each semester. COURSE OUTLINE: Title of Paper SEMESTER I Marks 1. Accounting and Finance for Managers Fiscal and Corporate Laws Financial Management Financial Mathematics 100 Title of Paper SEMESTER II Marks 1. Project Finance and International Finance Management Accounting Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management Project Work 100 EXAMINATION: There will be an examination at the end of each semester to evaluate the performance of candidates. The marking scheme will be as follows. 1. Theory Papers: i) Written Examination 70 Marks ii) For Continuous Evaluation a. Presentation in seminars. 20 Marks b. Attendance and Class Room Participation 10 Marks 2. Project Work (70 Marks: Project Report & 30 Marks: viva voce) 100 Marks A candidate must obtain a minimum of 40% marks to pass in each theory paper and project work. A candidate will be required to defend his/her project work in a viva-voce session. Submission of Project Report and appearance in viva voce, both are mandatory requirements. It will be obligatory to appear at the viva voce for the purpose of passing. 3
4 AWARD OF CLASS: The class will be awarded to the candidates on the basis of their performance in written examination, project work and viva-voce. Those of the successful candidates who obtain not less than 40% but less than 50% of the total marks will be declared to have passed in Pass Class. A candidate securing 50% or more but less than 60% of total marks will be declared to have passed in Second Class. A candidate securing 60% or more but less than 70% of total marks will be declared to have passed in First Class. A candidate securing 70% or more of total marks will be declared to have passed in Distinction. DEFICIENCY: To pass the semester examination, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 40% marks in each subject individually and also overall 40%. The candidate getting 40% or less than that in overall but 50 or more marks in any subject will be eligible for exemption in that subject. Candidate, who fails to clear the First Semester examination at the first attempt, will be allowed to continue the Second Semester and he/she will be permitted to appear in the First Semester examination along with the examination for the Second Semester. In any case the student should clear his/her examination within two academic years of the year of admission. To facilitate this at the time of any examination both semester examinations will be conducted. Verification of marks and Re-assessment will be allowed as per the university rules. Viva-voce Viva voce will be held by the committee consisting of two persons the Course Director/ Course Coordinator/Project Guide /One Senior teacher of the department and one External expert. THE ADMISSION TEST The admission test will be of two hours duration and will consist of multiple choice questions. Some of the possible section to be included in the written test are as follows. 1. General Awareness 2. English Proficiency Test 3. Analytical Reasoning 4. Quantitative Aptitude Test 5. Problem Solving Note. : University reserves the right to amend, without any notice any provision stated in this prospectus. 4
5 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Any Graduate with 45 per cent of Marks in Aggregate Undergraduate Level.
