7 ACI Recertification Policy CEUs vs. Points 30 CEUs are needed every three years 2017 Renewals You can choose which policy you would like to follow for this cycle. Audit System 10 percent of renewals will be audited. It is highly encouraged that you submit supporting documentation with your renewal. Online Journals ACI is in the final stages of completing the online portal. Certified professionals will be able to view from their AAMI portal. 7

9 ACI Recertification Policy New vs. Old Updated Policy Category 2: Leadership Roles Paid or volunteer positions on HTM and healthcare related committees. Examples: ACI Certification Board, HTM Society Role, Hospital Committee, Hospital Association(AHA,ACHE), Engineering Association(ASHE,HIMSS), Volunteer activities (missions). 30+ hours/year = 4 CEUs <30 hours/year = 2 CEUs Max 15 CEUs 9
10 ACI Recertification Policy New vs. Old Key Points The new policy requires that only active society members are granted CEUs, and the amount granted is based on the hours of activity per year. Solely being a member of an organization does not qualify for CEUs. 10
11 ACI Recertification Policy New vs. Old Updated Policy Category 3: Development of Educational Content Write items for ACI 5 items = 1 CEUs Published opinion based article (min 500 words) = 1 CEUs Published peer-reviewed (1,200 1,500 words) = 3 CEUs Published technical article (1,200 1,500 words) = 3 CEUs Write a book 1 chapter = 3 CEUs Max 15 CEUs Key Point Blog entries do not qualify for CEUs 11
12 ACI Recertification Policy New vs. Old Updated Policy Category 4: Professional Development Earn 1 CEU per hour of attendance Attending educational class (such as AAMI), webinars, in-service, vendor presentations or vendor school, or HTM conferences (seminars/sessions) Earn 2 CEUs per hour of attendance Teaching educational class/seminar, presenting a technical paper, or presenting a webinar Earn 0.5 CEUs per hour of attendance Indirectly related courses (Communication, Management, Auditing..) Minimum 15 CEUs - No Max Limit 12

Attending a course 1 CEU / 10 hours of class time Teaching a course 3 CEUs / 10 hours of class time Max 15 CEUs 13
14 ACI Recertification Policy New vs. Old Updated Policy Category 6: Work Experience Full time (HTM Field) Part-time/Military Reserve (HTM Field) 1.5 CEUs / year 0.5 CEU / year Max 6 CEUs Only the years employed during the 3-year recertification cycle are valid for reporting. Even though the max in this section is 6 CEUs, an individual without military or parttime employment can only claim a max of 4.5 CEUs (1.5 CEUs per year of full-time employment 14
15 2017 BMET Job Analysis Update Updating the content of these exams through a JTA process included several steps: Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) Meeting AAMI hired ACS, Ventures to facilitate a meeting of SMEs selected by AAMI in February The SMEs updated the current content outlines for the CBET, CLES, and CRES exams including drafting task statements within each content section and recommending weighting across the sections. 15
16 2017 BMET Job Analysis Update Survey to BMET population to review the revised content outline (sections and tasks) Focus on how important each was in their ability to perform their job. (Frequency and Criticality) ACS Analysis The responses provided through the survey were analyzed to determine if any differences existed across these groups compared to the SME findings (e.g., region, education/degree, primary job function). No major differences existed in the results across subgroups of the survey respondents. 16

18 2017 BMET Job Analysis Update CBET Sample Content Outline Anatomy & Physiology Approximately 12% Understand the functions, abnormal functions, and interactions of the physiological systems (e.g., Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, Nervous, Circulatory, Musculoskeletal, Endocrine). Identify components and function of the major organs (Heart, Lungs, Liver, Kidneys, Brain, Gallbladder, Pancreas, Skin, Blood). Public (employee, patient, visitor) Safety in the Healthcare Facility Approx. 15% Understand and apply NFPA99 to the use of medical equipment. Interpret information from safety data sheets, apply PPE, and identify standard hazard symbolism and signage. Identify blood-borne pathogen hazards, follow universal precautions, and determine appropriate infection control procedures. Apply expectations from relevant accrediting organizations (TJC, DNV, CMS, etc.) as applicable to healthcare environments. 18

20 2017 BMET Job Analysis Update CLES Sample Content Outline Biology & Chemistry 10% Understand the chemical composition of common body fluids, gases, and secretions (e.g., blood, urine, feces) and the interaction of electro-chemical properties with lab equipment. Understand the impact of the lab environment (e.g., humidity, temperature, pressure) on biological and chemical processes. Public Safety in the Healthcare Facility 12% Understand and effectively apply safety regulations regarding employee, patient, and visitor safety (e.g., biological, chemical, electrical, radiation). Evaluate compliance with codes and standards that govern the maintenance and operation of lab equipment (e.g., American Association of Blood Banks [AABB], College of American Pathologists [CAP], FDA, OSHA, Personal Protective Equipment [PPE], Safe Medical Devices Act [SMDA]). 20

Understand the relationship between anatomy and the technique to be used across all imaging modalities. Understand and use medical terminology correctly. 22

Understand the hazards associated with the magnetic environment associated with the MRI. Understand the effect of radiation on patients, visitor and staff, as well as policies, procedures and physical activities to help reduce its impact. Understand regulations and applicable standards from relevant accrediting organizations (e.g. TJC, CMS, OSHA, FDA, etc.), including appropriate documentation. 23
