22 21 A Quick Guide To Ribbons How To Read Ribbon Part Numbers: Selecting the Correct Ribbon Get the Proper Ribbon Width The width of the ribbon should exceed the width of the stock. This will ensure printability across the entire width of the label, and protect the printhead from damage by an exposed edge of stock. Verify the width does not exceed the specifications for your printer. Check the Printer Specifications Some printers have special requirements like: special core sizes, notched cores or length limitations. Make sure to order accordingly. Match to the Intended Label & Application Consider the stock you are printing on, the type of environment and handling rigors it will endure (see page 14). Ribbon Calculator Here s a simple method for calculating how many ribbons you will need for a particular quantity of labels: Step 1: Calculate the total length (in inches) for the quantity of labels you need to print. Step 2: Calculate the total length (in inches) for one ribbon. Step 3: Divide the total length for the labels by the length of one ribbon. 39 TERMS & CONDITIONS General Terms and Conditions (stock and custom, where applicable) Purchase Orders are accepted by fax or . Phone orders need hard copy confirmation. No verbal orders accepted for any reason. All prices are listed in U.S. dollars. Visa, MasterCard, and American Express can be used for payment. A 1.5% convenience fee will be added to orders placed with an American Express Card. Credit cards issued by a non-usa bank will incur a 0.5% security fee. If any credit card is used to pay an open invoice more than five days after shipment, GDC's full cost for credit card processing will automatically be added to the payment amount. The over $250 pricing applies to all orders totaling over $250. Different labels can be combined to receive this discount. You receive the over $250 pricing on orders under $250 when you place these orders online through the General Data Customer Center. Ask your Channel Sales Account Manager or visit for details. A $15.00 handling fee will be added for all orders under $50. On custom label orders there is a $250 minimum order and/or minimum release. Please include General Data's part number followed by a clear description of the product to help eliminate potential errors. All orders are acknowledged by fax or by General Data Company (GDC) to the customer upon acceptance. If you don't receive a confirmation, CALL YOUR CHANNEL SALES ACCOUNT MANGER! Orders will be furnished in quantity per roll or stack as listed and shipped in full carton quantities - no broken carton orders accepted. All custom labels are subject to a 10% over/under run or to the next "full roll" count unless specifically quoted otherwise. Many small sized labels regularly exceed 10% overage to make a full roll. Custom label orders are acknowledged with a CAD drawing. GDC must receive a signed, approved drawing from the customer prior to GDC processing the order. In case of order discrepancy, the signed CAD drawing will be final determination of intent. Orders may not be canceled after GDC acceptance, except upon terms that will compensate against loss. There is a minimum $50 fee for any order cancelled after a CAD drawing has been produced by GDC. Orders that require GDC to hold material in inventory will be shipped and invoiced by written release under the terms of the contract, interruption of the contract (failure to release any material in a quarter), or by obsolescence. 98% of stock label orders ship the same day. Our commitment is to ship within 48 hours after receipt of order. Part numbers beginning with an asterisk (*) may require up to 72 hours prior to shipment. Orders requested to ship the same day must be received by 2:00 PM. Orders requested to ship Overnight Delivery must be received by 4:00 PM. All orders will be shipped best way F.O.B. Factory, unless otherwise specified. Generic shipping documents featuring your company name are produced for each order, or you may supply your own for us to use. Cartons are otherwise marked only with a size, part number and lot number. A $1 charge per box will be added for customer-supplied box labels. GDC acting as buyer s agent: We endeavor to ship as requested. If product ships "Best Way" instead of requested shipper, customer is responsible for freight cost. A $15.00 charge will be added for each additional shipping point on shipment locations under $ All label orders have an estimated ship date. Due to the complexity of custom manufacturing, specific ship dates are our best estimate only. GDC is not responsible for higher than normal shipping costs due to delays. Requests to upgrade shipping method for faster delivery are only accepted in writing, and at customer s expense. There is a 25% restock fee on all products ordered incorrectly by the customer. No returns will be accepted after 30 days from receipt of shipment. There are no returns allowed on special order items and custom labels. Any returns attempted without a Return Authorization number, provided by GDC, will be refused. RA Procedure: Request an RA number from your sales specialist. Your RA number will be faxed or ed. Mark the RA number only on the shipping label. Do NOT write on the box! For hardware, make sure all accessories, including manuals, power cords and packaging materials are returned. Return Authorization number expires two weeks from the issue/fax date. Tooling: GDC retains ownership of all tooling and plates unless the customer specifically indicates on their purchase order that the tooling will remain their property. Our ownership provides storage, retooling, and replacement costs. If the customer chooses to retain ownership, these costs will be billed to the customer. GDC uses the fourth edition, second printing Pantone Formula Guide System for color labels. Please note some colors vary from the 1998/1999 systems. Our standard floodcoated/printed labels have a half shade plus or minus variation from the Pantone Formula Guide. For an additional $50 per color per order, an exact color match can be provided.
