7 Problems in subsurface chamber 1) The number of pressure measurement stations is normally more than flow meter stations, so we face a high work load of performance. 2) The small number of these stations is implemented simultaneously with distribution network, as a result, most of them are buried underground and is hard to access. 3) The implementation of pressure measurement stations with the traditional method requires formal permission letters issued by other authorities and such utility services as gas, electricity, telecommunication companies. 4) Implementation of new stations requires partial or complete vehicle pathway blocking which leads to traffic jam 7

8 Problems in subsurface pressure measurement stations 5) Implementation of new stations requires structural work including excavation, construction of subsurface chambers with protected gates 6) Taking accurate instrument to the lower level or inside subsurface chambers makes the problem of supplying IP. In addition, underground power supply in not safe and needs long life and expensive batteries. 7) Due to large number of pressure measurement stations and the necessity of spending cheaper price on data transferring which is basically based on network mobile and GPRS, network discoveragefrom underground occurs. 8

10 Side Pressure Audit Boards as an Innovative Method Those problems gave us the combined idea of installing the surface box consists of accurate instrument as well as locating them inside a particular customer's property. This proposed idea is a combination of the previously-introduced methods and in a safe and secured place, so this new method provides the benefits of other methods and at the same time the disadvantages have been solved. 10

18 Project Performance in Isfahan city and theresults Water & Waste Water Company of Isfahan Province got in the charge of smart water distribution network project. The targets include decreasing in operation cost, water loss, customers' water consumption and network's main lines breaks as well as increasing system reliability by online pressure management and smart installation controlling in network. Total number of the stations was 130 in which pressure audit stations were installed 18

19 Isfahan water distribution system City of Esfahan is the third metropolitan city in Iran with approximate area of 110,000 km 2 in the central region of Iran. Total water distribution network length is around 3,500 km total reservoir volume is 500,000 m 3 The populations is about 1,800,000. The maximum daily customers' consumption is about 5.7 m 3 /s water loss is less than 18%. 19

28 conclusions We introduced innovative method for installing pressure audit boars to monitor the water distribution network. This method is faster, cheaper, easier and more secure than traditional methods. We should be consider this method need customer confirm to be executable. 28
