2 Commercial Prices Using Commercial Prices 1. Use the Rate Code Look-up Table to find the applicable rate code for your package's origin and destination. 2. The cost of shipping an item is calculated in part using its size and weight. The shipping price is based on the greater of the volumetric weight or the actual weight. Determine the actual weight and volumetric weight for your package. 3. Reference the price sheet for the parcel service desired, eg. Xpresspost. Cross-reference the parcel weight (or volumetric weight as determined in step 2) with the rate code determined in step 1. These prices apply to each individual item separately. Weights of multiple pieces cannot be combined. 4. Add the price for the options you need. Volumetric Weight The volumetric weight (dimensional weight) of an item is calculated by applying the cubing rule; the rule ensures that the price charged for lightweight packages (low-density shipments) adequately covers the cost of transportation for the space occupied. The cubing rule is widely used in the transportation industry. As per the International Air Transport Association (IATA) cubing rule, all charges are based on a minimum density of 1 kilogram per 6,000 cubic centimetres or 10 pounds per cubic foot. The shipping price is based on the greater of the volumetric weight or the actual weight. (The actual weight cannot exceed 30 kg, but it is possible that the volumetric weight could exceed 30 kg.) To Determine Volumetric Weight 1. Find the volume of the item*. Length x Width x Height = Volume 2. Calculate the volumetric weight by dividing the volume by 6,000 for centimetres. Volume 6,000 = Volumetric Weight Sizes and Weights Maximum size No one dimension may exceed 2 m (78.7 in) Maximum length plus girth = 3 m (118 in) Oversize A surcharge applies if the length, width or height exceeds one (1) metre Minimum size 100 mm x 70 mm x 1 mm (3.9 in x 2.7 in x in) Minimum dimensions for mailing tubes: 100 mm x 23 mm x 23 mm (3.9 in x 0.8 in x 0.8 in) Maximum weight 30 kg (66 lbs) Minimum weight None Fuel Surcharge Canada Post reserves the right to apply a fuel surcharge to all items.
