This guide outlines the procedure for obtaining financial assistance under the ENERGY STAR Certified Windows for Rental Properties Program. Put the Program to work for you in five easy steps. 1. Choose ENERGY STAR certified windows and find out what climate zone the building is located in. 2. Select the windows and glazing that are right for you. 3. Purchase your windows. 4. Determine the surface area of your eligible windows so you can calculate your financial assistance. 5. Fill out the application for financial assistance and mail it in. Window retailers and manufacturers are familiar with the program and can help you choose the best windows for your needs. Hydro-Québec is not the seller, manufacturer, distributor, installer or supplier of the products and therefore is not bound by the legal warranty. Hydro-Québec offers no warranty and shall not be held liable for any damage or harm arising from the installation or use of products or from the work performed.

4 PROCEDURE STEP 1 CHOOSE ENERGY STAR CERTIFIED WINDOWS AND FIND OUT WHAT CLIMATE ZONE THE BUILDING IS LOCATED IN. ENERGY STAR certified windows sold in Canada meet precise energy efficiency requirements for at least one of three climate zones: 1, 2 or 3. Québec covers two of these zones: 2 and 3. Products receive the ENERGY STAR certification based on a number of factors, including their energy rating (ER). The higher the ER, the more energy-efficient the product. ENERGY STAR ENERGY STAR is the international symbol of premium energy efficiency, administered in this country by Natural Resources Canada. Here s an example of a label with the ENERGY STAR symbol indicating the zones for which the product is qualified. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS Windows must be ENERGY STAR certified for the climate zone where the building is located. If your property is in zone 2, the windows in your request for financial assistance must be certified for this zone, as shown on the ENERGY STAR data sheet. Buildings located in zone 1 are not eligible for the program. Find out what zone your building is in at hydroquebec.com/windows-rental-properties.

5 STEP 2 SELECT THE WINDOWS AND GLAZING THAT ARE RIGHT FOR YOU. FIXED SLIDING VERTICAL SLIDING (HUNG) AWNING CASEMENT TILT-AND-TURN All window types are eligible, as long as they are ENERGY STAR certified and meet the program s other requirements. However, patio doors and skylights are not covered by the program. DOUBLE GLAZING Financial assistance of $1/sq. ft. A sealed unit composed of two panes of glass Different types of glazing can meet the program requirements. Because of the higher cost of triple-glazed windows, they qualify for more financial assistance than double-glazed windows. TRIPLE GLAZING* Financial assistance of $5/sq. ft. Option A A sealed unit composed of two panes of glass, combined with a single-pane unit Option B A sealed unit composed of three panes of glass * Quadruple glazing also qualifies for financial assistance, according to the same criteria as triple glazing.

6 PROCEDURE (CONT.) STEP 3 STEP 4 PURCHASE YOUR WINDOWS. Purchase your windows from a window retailer or manufacturer. They ll help you fill out the application for financial assistance by supplying the exact dimensions of the windows you buy. That information is used to calculate the surface area of each eligible window and, combined with the type of glazing you opt for, determines the amount of financial assistance you can claim. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Minimum of five ENERGY STAR certified windows per property Minimum surface area of 8 sq. ft. per window Financial assistance of $1/sq. ft. for a double-glazed window Financial assistance of $5/sq. ft. for a triple-glazed window DETERMINE THE SURFACE AREA OF YOUR ELIGIBLE WINDOWS SO YOU CAN CALCULATE YOUR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. Once you have placed your order, you can determine the total surface area of the new windows that qualify for financial assistance. The amount of financial assistance depends on each window s total surface area, which is calculated based on the frame s outside dimensions (height multiplied by width). The result, in square feet, is then multiplied by the amount of financial assistance per square foot, which depends on whether the window is double-glazed or triple-glazed. 8 PROCEDURE (CONT.) STEP 5 FILL OUT THE APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND MAIL IT IN. You can get an application form from your window retailer or manufacturer, or you can download a printable interactive form at hydroquebec.com/windows-rental-properties. The interactive form allows you to enter the required information using your keyboard and automatically calculates the total financial assistance you can claim, based on the window measurements you enter. Once you re done, you will have to print the form so you can sign it and mail it in with your supporting documents. Here are a few tips and explanations regarding the main sections of the application form. Under the Québec Taxation Act and regulations, Hydro-Québec must issue a Relevé 27 tax slip indicating the total amount of financial assistance paid, unless the beneficiary is a tax-exempt organization. For more information on the Relevé 27 slip, contact the Ministère du Revenu du Québec. Required information for the Relevé 27 slip: Please check off the applicable box and complete the section that concerns you. Review of applications The participating owner unconditionally agrees to give a guided tour of the premises within 12 months of the date of receipt of the valid and completed application for financial assistance to ensure compliance with the Program requirements. If an owner fails to comply with the Program requirements, he or she must repay the financial assistance provided by Hydro- Québec. The financial assistance applies only to eligible products. These products and the amounts of the financial assistance payable are described in the Program documentation. Failure to pay Hydro-Québec and awarding of financial assistance Hydro-Québec may deduct any amount owed to it by the owner from the financial assistance to be paid. The financial assistance is paid within 60 days of receipt of the duly completed application. Link to other programs in effect Any work for which Hydro-Québec has granted financial assistance under the ENERGY STAR Certified Windows for Rental Properties Program is ineligible for any other financial assistance under another program run or financially supported by Hydro-Québec. Changes to specific conditions of participation Hydro-Québec reserves the right to change without notice the specific conditions of participation in the Program or to terminate it. However, the specific conditions will continue to apply to applications received prior to the effective date of the changes. Installation standards Selection, purchase and installation of windows and all related work shall remain the owner s responsibility. He or she is solely responsible for compliance with the requirements described herein as well as those decreed by regulatory authorities, recommended by manufacturers or considered to be good practice, particularly those set forth in applicable codes and standards or in applicable directives, guides or manuals published by agencies such as the NRC or the CMHC. All products shall be installed by competent professionals in keeping with the manufacturer s recommendations and regulations in effect. Environment The building owner is responsible for recycling or disposing of any products replaced under this Program. Payment method Within 60 days of receiving the valid and completed application for financial assistance, Hydro-Québec shall pay the owner the prescribed financial assistance for the measures implemented. The application for financial assistance must be submitted by December 31, Hydro-Québec may deduct from the assistance the amount of any overpayment paid to the owner in the course of one or more previous payments. If the total overpayment exceeds the amount owed by Hydro-Québec, the company can demand repayment of any amounts owed to it within 60 days. Important: supporting documents to be provided to Hydro-Québec The owner shall provide all information requested in the application form supplied by Hydro-Québec. The application shall be signed by the building owner and accompanied by the following documents: 1- The detailed sales receipt for the windows for which financial assistance is claimed, including the installation address and, for each window, the brand, model number, category (double or triple glazing) and total surface in square feet. 2- A copy of the ENERGY STAR data sheet for each window model for which financial assistance is requested. The data sheet is provided by the retailer or manufacturer or can be downloaded from the Natural Resources Canada Web site( pml-mp/index.cfm?language_langue=en& appliance=windows&action=app%2es earch-recherche&attr=0) The application and supporting documents must be sent to the following address: Hydro-Québec Soutien aux programmes Fenêtres certifiées ENERGY STAR pour immeubles locatifs CONFIDENTIAL Complexe Desjardins, tour Est, 24e étage C. Details regarding the supporting documents to be enclosed with your application, including a copy of the detailed invoice and a copy of the ENERGY STAR data sheet for each window model for which you are claiming financial assistance (see example on the next page). Information about a possible inspection of the installation premises. The address to which you must mail your application for financial assistance. Be sure to write CONFIDENTIAL on the envelope. The amount of financial assistance (the amount shown in the box at the bottom of the front of the form). If you are using the interactive form, this amount is entered automatically Sign and date the form.

MANDATORY ENERGY STAR DATA SHEETS For every window model for which you are claiming financial assistance, enclose an ENERGY STAR data sheet with your application. The data sheet(s) and a copy of the detailed sales receipt are the two supporting documents that must be submitted with your application. In most cases, your window retailer or manufacturer will give you a paper copy of the ENERGY STAR data sheets you need to complete your application. If you have to download and print the ENERGY STAR data sheets yourself, follow the steps below. Make sure you have your detailed receipt with you when you re ready to start. 1 Go to hydroquebec.com/windows-rental-properties and go to the section How to generate the mandatory fact sheets for step 5 (Fill out the application for financial assistance and mail it in) and click on the link to the Natural Resources Canada Web site. You will see the Energy Efficiency Ratings: Search page, shown below: 2 Start your search by entering the model number of one of your ENERGY STAR certified windows in the Model field, under the Model Criteria heading. The model number is shown on your detailed receipt. Then click Search at the bottom of the page.

11 You will now see a page with a Search Results section at the bottom showing the energy efficiency profile for the model in question. 3 In the first column of the energy efficiency profile, click on the model number shown in green to obtain its ENERGY STAR data sheet. 4 The ENERGY STAR data sheet for that model will be displayed. This is the page that you must print and submit with your application. 5 Repeat these steps for every model for which you are claiming financial assistance.
