PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD This unit standard is for persons in the Electrical Engineering; Generation; Distribution; Transmission, Construction and Renewable Energy Sector. 2 A person credited with this unit standard will be capable of: Conducting an electrical inspection and test of a domestic/commercial/industrial installation Using inspection documents and filling them in correctly Completing the Certificate of Compliance with correct and relevant information This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the electrical engineering and construction environment. LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING The following knowledge, skills attitude and/or equivalent: Wire and commission domestic electrical circuits Thorough knowledge of: SABS 0142 Have knowledge of the non-compliance to the OHS Act UNIT STANDARD RANGE Statutory Requirements Definition: Statutory requirements may include but are not limited to OSH Act, SABS Regulations, Mineral Act, Local Authority requirements, Manufacturers specifications and Worksite procedure. Domestic installation including but not limited to houses, flats, hotels, places of assembly, shops, townhouse complexes, office buildings and factories. Test equipment may include but are not limited to multimeters, insulation tester, clip on ammeter, impedance testing equipment, earth leakage testing devices, earth electrode resistance testing equipment, continuity testers, phase rotation testing equipment. Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 Plan work task 1. Job instructions are interpreted and a sequence of operations is determined. 2. Appropriate tools, equipment and instruments are identified and selected to meet the requirements of the task according to statutory requirements. 3. 3 4. Applicable safety rules and regulations are identified for application. SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 Test the installation 1. Permission is obtained to carry out task according to instructions. 2. Installation is tested according to requirements. 3. Relevant documentation is completed to capture the features of the installation. 4. Appropriate test instruments are used to acquire relevant readings. 5. The values of test readings are recorded and analysed for conformance. ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 6. Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act is assured. ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 7. Compliance with SABS is assured. SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 Conduct a visual inspection of the installation 1. Installation is inspected to ensure conformance to statutory requirements. 2. Relevant documentation is completed to accurately reflect the features of the installation. 3. 4 4. Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act is verified. 5. Compliance with SABS 0142 is verified. SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 Complete work task 1. Site specific safety procedures are adhered to throughout testing and inspecting procedures. 2. Work area is restored to original condition. 3. Applicable documentation is completed according to statutory requirements. 4. Relevant parties informed of outcome of verification. 5. Job completion is reported and documents/certificates submitted to authority. UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS Accreditation and moderation options: Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be register ed as an assessor with the relevant ETQA. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA. Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines in the relevant qualification and the agreed ETQA procedures.
