8 Time Line 1979 The Joint-Staff of Armed Forces (JSAF) created the Permanent Materiel Codification Commission; 1982 JSAF establishes the Brazilian Military Cataloguing System (SISMICAT); 1986 JSAF establishes the Brazilian Stock Number (NEB), with the same structure as the NSN; 1993 First contact with AC/135 expressing the interest of Brazil in participating in the NCS; 1997 Brazil ratifies the STANAGs 3150, 3151 and signs a bilateral agreement with NAMSA (Tier 1 sponsorship); 1998 CECAFA is created; 1999 establishment of Ministry of Defense and reorganization of Brazilian Military Codification System

9 Time Line 2001 Brazil develops and implements its own codification software; 2002 Brazil is declared Tier 2 sponsored nation, during the 81st. Main Group Meeting, and is the first country to use the Internet version of NMBS; 2004 Web version of the Brazilian Catalogue of Items and Entities (Cat- BR) becomes available for the Armed Forces (CD version); 2005 The Internet version of Cat-BR becomes available; Brazil initiates the development of new codification software, the translation of item names and descriptive data and the management of the SSR tables, as an effort to establish of the National Cataloguing System.

19 Mandate CECAFA Centro de Catalogação das Forças Armadas (Armed Forces Cataloguing Center) Mandate: To promote the establishment, maintenance and future upgrade of Brazilian Military Cataloguing System, in harmony with the NCS, as a support tool for logistics function operated by Brazilian Armed Forces and by civilian organizations accepted into the System

20 Main Responsibilities of CECAFA Act as Brazilian National Codification Bureau; Centralize and coordinate cataloguing activities in Brazil; Guarantee that the rules and methodology of cataloguing and codification are fully compatible with NCS concepts; Enhance and maintain items and entities database; Train customers on how to use the NCS; Announce cataloguing principles and advantages among governmental and private entities; Manage the acquisition and distribution of cataloguing publications.

28 Next Steps Next improvements include enhance the process of item codification favoring the descriptive method; Turn the NCB into an integrated Logistics Information Center; Start the operations of the National Cataloguing System; Increase the use of the Codification Clause from defense contracts to all government contracts as applicable; Exchange all data through XML transactions at national level; make Segment H available to the system.
