4 I. DESCRIPTION 1. Overview The Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning System (EGPWS) integrates three alerting functional areas into a single Line Replaceable Unit (LRU), the Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning Computer (EGPWC). These functional areas are: Ground Proimity Warning (including altitude awareness callouts and bank angle alerting) Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness and Display (TAD) Terrain Clearance Floor (TCF) The system operates by accepting a variety of aircraft parameters as inputs and applying alerting algorithms. In the event that the boundaries of any alerting envelope are eceeded, the EGPWS provides the flight crew with aural alert annunciations and visual displays. The EGPWS comprises the following groups of components: Aircraft sensors and other systems input signals The Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning Computer (EGPWC) Cockpit Audio Systems (Speakers and Headphones) Alert Lamps, Mode and Selector Switches and Terrain Display The EGPWS is designed to be fully compatible with normal aircraft operations. Unwanted alerts will be very rare if the pilot maintains situational awareness with respect to the terrain. The only required pilot input is to initiate a preflight self-test. The EGPWS etends the Ground Proimity Warning functionality of the MK VI GPWS by adding Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness and Display (TAD) & Terrain Clearance Floor (TCF) functions. This AFMS is applicable to PN [ , , , ] with software version XXX. 2. Ground Proimity Warning GPWS Modes 1 through 6 employ the algorithms used in the MK VI GPWS system. Mode Function Caution Warning Mode 1 Ecessive Descent Rate Sinkrate Sinkrate Pull Up Mode 2 Ecessive Closure to Terrain Terrain, Terrain Pull Up Mode 3 Altitude Loss after Takeoff Don t Sink Mode 4 Unsafe Terrain Clearance Too Low Gear Too Low Flaps Too Low Terrain Note: Fied gear aircraft using 004 or later software and Category 5 (Audio Menu) ID 2 or 3 will receive Too Low Flap alerts in lieu of Too Low Gear alerts Mode 5 Ecessive Glideslope Deviation Glideslope Mode 6 Advisory callouts One Hundred, etc. Mode 6 Bank Angle callouts Bank Angle FAA Approved Date: Doc. 5 3. Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness Display and Terrain Clearance Floor The enhanced functions of the EGPWS are the Terrain (or Obstacles) Awareness and Display (TAD) and the Terrain Clearance Floor (TCF). Obstacles of 100 feet or more have been included from a database provided by NOAA that covers the United States and parts of Canada and the Caribbean. These functions use geographic aircraft position, aircraft altitude and a terrain database to predict potential conflicts between the aircraft flight path and the terrain or cataloged human made obstacles. Additionally, it provides graphic displays of the conflicting terrain or obstacle. Mode Function Caution Warning TA Terrain Awareness Caution Terrain, Terrain, Terrain, Pull Up Caution Terrain Obstacle Awareness Caution Obstacle, Obstacle, Obstacle, Pull Up Caution Obstacle TCF Terrain Clearance Floor Too Low Terrain A. Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness and Display (TAD) The Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness and Display (TAD) algorithms continuously compute terrain clearance envelopes ahead of the aircraft. If the boundaries of these envelopes conflict with terrain elevation data in the terrain database, alerts are issued. Two envelopes are computed, one corresponding to a Terrain Caution Alert level and the other to a Terrain Warning Alert level. The Caution and Warning envelopes use the Terrain Clearance Floor as a baseline, and look ahead of the aircraft in a volume determined as a function of ground speed, flight path angle and track. If the aircraft penetrates the Caution envelope boundary, the aural message Caution Terrain, Caution Terrain or Caution Obstacle, Caution Obstacle is generated, and alert discretes are provided for activation of a visual red GPWS annunciator. Simultaneously, terrain areas or obstacles that conflict with the caution criteria are shown in solid yellow color on the display. If the aircraft penetrates the Warning envelope boundary, the aural message Terrain, Terrain, Pull Up! or Obstacle, Obstacle, Pull Up! is generated, and alert signals are provided for activation of the visual red GPWS annunciator. Simultaneously, terrain areas that conflict with the warning criteria are shown in solid red color on the display. Terrain picture data may be selected in place of the weather radar display at any time. The terrain display will appear on the Navigation Display/Radar Display. When the conditions for either a Terrain Caution or a Terrain Warning are dictated, the system automatically changes the Navigation Display/Radar Display from the weather radar picture to the terrain picture on the 10 NM range (if auto pop-up and auto ranging are activated). Terrain that is sufficiently close to the aircraft, but does not satisfy the Caution or Warning criteria, is shown in varying density levels of red, yellow or green dot patterns with a black background. The density of the dot pattern is coarsely varied to depict terrain altitude with respect to the aircraft. All displayed terrain areas or obstacles are shown as rectilinear shapes which are designed to be easily distinguishable from the display of weather radar images. Magenta (purple) dot patterns are used to indicate areas where terrain information is unavailable. Peaks display mode (when program pin enabled) provides additional terrain display features for enhanced situational awareness, independent of the aircraft s altitude. This function is evidenced by the presence of three-digit elevation numbers indicating the highest and lowest terrain/obstacle elevation within the selected map range. These elevations are epressed in hundreds of feet above sea level (e.g., 125 is 12,500 feet MSL). In the event that there is no appreciable difference between the highest and lowest terrain/obstacle elevations (flat terrain), only the highest value is displayed. The colors of the elevation numbers match the color of the terrain that is represented. When well above terrain, the EGPWS displays additional green terrain contours. A distinct graphic representation of shore lines and sea level water (0 feet MSL) is supported by some displays. FAA Approved Date: Doc. No.: Rev B Page 5 of 11

6 B. Terrain Clearance Floor (TCF) The Terrain Clearance Floor (TCF) alert adds an additional element of protection to the standard Ground Proimity Warning modes. It creates an increasing terrain clearance envelope around the nearest airport runway. TCF alerts are based on current aircraft location, nearest runway center point position and radio altitude. TCF protection is active regardless of aircraft flight configuration. II. LIMITATIONS The EGPWS Pilot s Guide, , dated April 2000, or later, must be immediately available to the flight crew when operating the Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning System. Pilots are authorized to deviate from their current air traffic control (ATC) clearance to the etent necessary to comply with an EGPWS warning. Navigation must not be predicated upon the use of the Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness Display. The Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness Display is intended to serve as a situational awareness tool only, and may not provide the accuracy and/or fidelity on which to solely base terrain avoidance maneuvering. In order to avoid giving unwanted alerts, the Terrain Awareness and Display (TAD) must be inhibited by selecting the TERRAIN INHIBIT switch when within 15nm of takeoff, approach, or landing at an airport not contained in the EGPWS Airport Data Base. Refer to Honeywell document for airports contained in the installed EGPWS Terrain Database. III. NORMAL PROCEDURES The operating procedures contained in this supplement have been developed and recommended by the manufacturer and approved by the FAA for use in the operation of this system. These procedures are guidance in identifying acceptable operating procedures. 1. System Activation The Enhanced GPWS is active if the GPWS FAIL and TERRAIN FAIL messages are not illuminated, electrical power is on, and the following systems are operational (if installed): A. Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning Computer (EGPWC) B. Radio Altimeter C. Air Data Computer D. VHF NAV Receiver E. Roll Attitude System F. Magnetic Heading System G. Global Positioning System H. Gear and Flaps indicating systems I. Display System (EFIS NDs/Radar Indicator) The GPWS FAIL annunciation signifies a failure of the basic GPWS (Modes 1-6). The TERRAIN FAIL annunciation signifies TAD & TCF are not available. In the event the Radio Altimeter is not functioning, the basic GPWS modes and TCF will not be available. However, TAD will be available. If the EGPWS TAD or TCF features become inoperative because of a system fault or inaccurate position information, the basic GPWS functions Modes 1-6 will still be available. Perform a system self test on the ground prior to every flight to verify proper operation of the EGPWS. FAA Approved Date: Doc. No.: Rev B Page 6 of 11

Display Pop-Up and Auto-Ranging (if selected for installation) Two additional features are provided for the EGPWS terrain display: the display pop-up feature and the display auto-ranging feature. A. Pop-Up: In the event of a terrain alert, the display will automatically switch to display terrain. The display may be manually selected to display weather radar if desired, when the terrain alert has ceased. B. Auto-Ranging: In the event of a terrain alert, when the display automatically switches to display terrain, the display range automatically switches to a default (usually 10 NM) range to provide the highest resolution image of the terrain. A magenta range ring or range indication will display if the selected range on the display does not match the Pop-Up range. FAA Approved Date: Doc. No.: Rev B Page 9 of 11

10 12. Use of the Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness Display (if installed) The Terrain (or Obstacle) alerting may be shown on the display. A scanning blue marker may appear on the display and an area wide terrain picture will be seen. A tet field on the display may show the status of the Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness Display (i.e. TERR, TERR-ST, OBST, etc.) The display may be used as one component of maintaining awareness of separation from terrain. The display is not intended for navigation purposes. CAUTION The Terrain (or Obstacle) Awareness Display is intended to serve as a situational awareness tool only, and may not provide the accuracy and/or fidelity on which to solely base terrain avoidance maneuvering. Weather radar and terrain information cannot be displayed simultaneously on a single display. For operation near convective activity, pilots may select weather display on one display, and terrain on the other. If only one display is operational, the crew should use the weather radar display as usual. 13. Alert Priorities When any of the EGPWS alert lamps are illuminated, the TCAS is placed in TA ONLY mode inhibiting all TCAS aural messages. The following lists the priority of the warning and cautions: EGPWC (Rank) Alert 1 Mode 1 Pull Up 2 Mode 2 Pull Up 3 Terrain Awareness Warning 4 Obstacle Awareness Warning 5 Mode 2 Terrain 6 Mode 6 Minimums 7 Terrain Awareness Caution 8 Obstacle Awareness Caution 9 Mode 4 Too Low Terrain 10 TCF Too Low Terrain 11 Mode 6 Altitude Callouts 12 Mode 4 Too Low Gear* 13 Mode 4 Too Low Flaps 14 Mode 1 Sinkrate 15 Mode 3 Don t Sink 16 Mode 5 Glideslope 17 Mode 6 Bank Angle *This alert will be Too Low Flaps is using Category 5 (Voice Menu) ID 2 or 3 as recommended for fied gear aircraft. 11 14. System Constraints If there is no terrain data in the database for a particular area, the affected display area is colored magenta. Note: This constraint does not apply to Terrain Database Version 421 and later, as these versions have full worldwide terrain coverage. The terrain database, displays and alerting algorithms currently account for limited cataloged human-made obstructions within the United States and parts of Canada and the Caribbean. Obstacle alerting must be configuration strapped to be activated. If obstacle data is not in the database for a particular obstacle, Obstacle Awareness alerting is not available for that obstacle. If the TAD and TCF features of the Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning System have been inhibited, the EGPWS will revert to basic Ground Proimity Warning System protection (Mode 1-6). In this standard GPWS condition, the system may give no advance warning time for flight into precipitous terrain where there are few or no preceding obstructions. If the aircraft is flown toward obstructing terrain, the GPWS will give no warnings if all the following conditions apply: The aircraft is in landing configuration. The aircraft is in a stabilized descent at a normal approach descent rate. There is no ILS Glideslope signal being received by the Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning System (i.e., there is no ILS available or the Glideslope receiver connected to the Enhanced Ground Proimity Warning Computer is not tuned to the appropriate ILS frequency). Terrain clearances or descent rates during radar vectoring that are not compatible with those required by the minimum regulatory standards for Ground Proimity Warning equipment may cause unwanted warnings or alerts. IV. ABNORMAL PROCEDURES When a procedure in the basic Airplane Flight Manual specifies landing with flap settings not normally used for landing, the GPWS FLAP OVRD switch can be used to simulate landing flaps. This will prevent a Too Low Flaps alert. V. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES A. The GPWS VOICE OVRD switch is used in emergency situations to inhibit the Ground Proimity Aural messages (Modes 1 through 6). The switch will not affect Ground Proimity annunciator Lamps. B. For ditching, or other off-airport landings, the TAD and TCF functions should be inhibited by selecting the TERRAIN INHIBIT switch. C. The GPWS circuit breaker may be used to deactivate the EGPWS when an emergency procedure in the basic Airplane Flight Manual specifies landing with the gear up. VI. RECOVERY PROCEDURES See basic Airplane Flight Manual. VII. PERFORMANCE No change to basic Airplane Flight Manual. FAA Approved Date: Doc. No.: Rev B Page 11 of 11
