The replacement of sewn seams and hems with tape or film bonded garments has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Bonded garments offer advantages to both the end consumer and the garment manufacturer. We arrived at a truly unique solution for stretch & recovery for intimate apparel applications through the use of new chemistries, advanced research and realistic test methods. Our High Recovery TPU Elastomers are designed to eliminate the need for elastics used in bra wings and in panty waist and leg openings.these new tapes offer the best recovery while still maintaining the sleek, smooth aesthetics of a Sewfree seam, band or hem. In addition to the design benefits, careful attention to the manufacturing methods and fabrics used in making intimate garments was given. These High Recovery TPU Elastomers satisfy both the need for enhanced designs, better performance and the need for greater flexibility in manufacturing.

3 Excellent Stretch & Recovery The ability of a bonded hem to stretch to high strains and recover to its original length can also be characterized by the hysteresis and set observed in a tensile stress-strain test. Our stress-strain testing was performed three times to simulate both the initial wear of a garment and the response of the garment to body movement during wear. Excellent Stretch & Recovery: Load Loss How the garment fits after extended wear is another important feature when considering stretch and recovery. Figure D demonstrates that the possessed the lowest loss in load.this data denotes that a consumer will not notice a difference in the garment s fit after many wash and wear cycles. Materials that are highly elastic exhibit low hysteresis. Figure B illustrates that the hysteresis for the High Recovery TPU Elastomers () is low indicating the best elasticity of the three tapes compared. Recovery refers to the total amount of the strain recovered after unloading, or 1% - observed set.the percentage of set affects recovery. As you can see in Figure C the features the lowest set, resulting in the highest recovery of the three tapes compared. It is the force required to pull a sample to 5% elongation. High Recovery TPU Elastomers are available in varying moduli to accommodate the different applications and to match selected fabrics. Figure E illustrates the hysteresis for the three different modulus formulations. As you can see, the tapes maintain extremely low set and high recovery. The modulus for 3914/12 um gauge is: 2.2 N (.5 lbs), the recovery is 96% The Modulus for 3916/152 µm gauge is: 3.2 N (.7 lbs), the recovery is 96% The Modulus for 3918/23 µm gauge is: 4.4 N (1. lbs), the recovery is 97% * Test Method * Modulus:The force required to pull a 12 mm (.47") wide sample by specified gauge to 5% elongation at 58 mm (2") per minute after 3 cycles. * Recovery:The % of its shape retained after a 12 mm (.47") sample is stretched to 5% elongation at a rate of 58 mm (2") per minute after 3 cycles.

4 Superior Bond Strength How good is an elastic tape that delaminates from the fabric after several washes? Regardless of the stretch and recovery, a tape that will adhere to your fabric is paramount. Bond strength is a crucial factor when evaluating durability. Figure F shows that the High Recovery Elastomer tapes exhibit the highest bond strength both before and after washing. Outstanding Resistance to Environmental Yellowing Bemis High Recovery TPU Elastomer tapes have been formulated to have excellent resistance to environmental yellowing. Figure H shows the results of exposure to the combustion of natural gases.this test simulates the environmental conditions commonly responsible for yellowing fabrics, tapes and other polymers. Wide Processing Parameters The ability to achieve good bond strength at low activation temperatures is essential when dealing with heat sensitive fabrics. Bemis High Recovery TPU Elastomer tapes have the widest processing window.they can be bonded at low or high temperatures, enabling greater flexibility in manufacturing methods and allowing for a wide variety in fabric types & weights. Figure G reveals that the Elastomers begin to achieve good bond strength from the initial glue line temperature of 11 degrees Celsius. Bemis will test the compatibility of our tape with your fabric and design and recommend the tape choice as well as inform you of optimum processing parameters. 5 Other Features & Benefits Elastomers feature excellent lay flat properties.the samples in the photo below were bonded at the recommended processing conditions to a 83% cotton /13% Spandex fabric. Each sample was pulled to 1% elongation with a 15 second hold.this pull test was repeated 3 times. As you can see from the photo, the new Elastomer lays flat.
