2 Product description Baycusan C 1008 is a polyurethane dispersion which is a colloidal system of a high molecular weight polyurethane polymer dispersed in water. An internal anionic emulsifier is incorporated into the polymer backbone to ensure stability of the dispersion. This polymer was specifically designed as a film former for hair styling products. Its unique structure provides a balance of elasticity, hydrophobicity and washability. The extraordinary elasticity of Baycusan C 1008 imparts a strong lasting hold. 3 Baycusan C 1008 offers several formulating advantages compared to existing hair fixatives: Easy to handle : High energy input not required Cold/cold process possible No extra phase necessary Ready to use : Neutralization not required High formulation flexibility : Useful over a broad range of ph Good compatibility with commonly used cosmetic ingredients Suitable for low VOC or zero VOC products Preservative free formulation possible Baycusan C 1008 is appropriate for many hair styling products like pump setting sprays, aerosol sprays, styling creams, styling lotions, etc. Process Owing to a unique manufacturing process, Baycusan C 1008 is a zero VOC product and is free of monomers, and co-solvents like N-methylpyrrolidone. 4 Compatibility Baycusan C 1008 shows good compatibility with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients including common synthetic and natural thickeners like Carbopol and Xanthan gum, polar solvents like ethanol. Because of its anionic nature, Baycusan C 1008 is compatible with anionic and nonionic hair styling resins. Depending on their charge density, cationic polymers may be incompatible with Baycusan C Dimethyl ether is recommended as the propellant for aerosol hair styling sprays. Film formation occurs by evaporation of water. The dispersed polymer particles coalesce into a continuous film at ambient temperature. 5 Physical properties of the product Viscosity of polymer solution In contrast to existing hair fixative polymers, the polymer content can be increased without steep increase in viscosity making Baycusan C 1008 suitable for formulating low-viscosity products. 6 Benefits for hair styling applications High Humidity Curl Retention As shown below, Baycusan C 1008 provides excellent curl retention properties, even better than other commercially available polymers. Even after 24 hours evaluation, a curl retention of about 66 % is measured. Test conditions: 25 C +/- 1 C, 80 % +/- 5 % R.h, 2wt.% solid polymer solution, same amount of polymer on caucasian hair. page 6 of 9

7 Flexural Strength Baycusan C 1008 imparts a strong holding power. As depicted in the graphic below, the maximum bending force of a hair assembly treated with Baycusan C 1008 converges to the values obtained in case of state of the art acrylate copolymer and polyurethane solution. 8 Storage Storage in original sealed Bayer MaterialScience container. Recommended storage temperature: 5-30 C. Protect from moisture, heat and foreign material. General information: Brief heating to max. 50 C has no adverse effect on product properties. The product must be stored in tightly closed containers to prevent evaporation of water which may result in the formation of a non redispersible film. Storage time Bayer MaterialScience represents that, for a period of six months following the day of shipment as stated in the respective transport documents, the product will meet the specifications or values set forth in section "specifications or characteristic data" above, what ever is applicable, provided that the product is stored in full compliance with the storage conditions set forth in and referenced under section "storage" above and is otherwise handled appropriately. The lapse of the six months period does not necessarily mean that the product no longer meets specifications or the set values. However, prior to using said product, Bayer MaterialScience recommends to test such a product if it still meets the specifications or the set values. Bayer MaterialScience does not make any representation regarding the product after the lapse of the six months period and Bayer MaterialScience shall not be responsible or liable in any way for the product failing to meet specifications or the set values after the lapse of the six months period. page 8 of 9
