5 Microsoft's New Age for Reporting 1/9 PASS Summit 2015 has been a crucial passage to know the new Microsoft's development pattern for its Business Intelligence platform. A straight and clear roadmap has been presented, aiming to harmonize reporting content types across platforms and systems. Keywords of the new strategy are: Integration = whole ecosystem Standardization = the rules to keeps things together and to build the same object for different environements Harmonization = every object has its own purporse. The new approach focuses on four report types, based on production technology and delivery method. 3/9

8 Microsoft's New Age for Reporting 4/9 The four report types: 1) Paginated Reports. Standard pageformat report type, with many elements and complex business logic. Built with Report Builder or SSDT (Visual Studio) 2) Interactive Reports. Made of different objects (tiles) that allow dynamic and interactive visualizations. Built with Power BI Desktop.

10 Microsoft's New Age for Reporting 6/9 Reporting Services plays a determinant role in the new architecture. Starting from 2016 release, it becames the centralized on-premises solution for BI report delivery, meaning that it can hosts objects such as: - paginated reports - mobile reports - KPI - Power BI reports (future development) To achieve this goal, the web site has been totally overhauled and rewritten, for better reporting deploy and delivery.

11 Microsoft's New Age for Reporting 7/9 Reporting Services is our on-premises solution for BI report delivery SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to date has focused on paginated reports and offers class-leading capabilities for that format. With SQL Server 2016 we are taking a leap forward by adding support for mobile reports. The addition of this new report type in SSRS is accompanied by an entirely new web experience for Reporting Services allowing users to access both paginated and mobile reports in one centralized location. Objects are positioned in the home page for user's direct access. Last feature introduced recently provides also a serch engine whitin the site. Starting from SQL Server Release Candidate 1, the new portal replaces in toto the old Report Manager.

From multiple choices of Report Manager it passes to a windows that contains maximun three options, clears and well defined. Depending on the choice you made, it opens a window for data refresh management.

Alternatively, you can choose to send the report to a distribution group or to a network share. This feature alredy present in Reporting Services previous releases is avalaible in the new portal, too. But, with new Enterprise release you can even generate data-based subscriptions. These are subscriptions that generate one single report for every row in the dataset. 11/11
