1 BAU 2011 ift special show Hall C4 booth 500 PRESS RELEASE dated 7 th October, 2010 From January 17 22, the special exhibition in Munich will present in hall C4 booth 500 how innovative buildings capable of gaining energy and sustainable building may be realised with the help of windows, facades and doors. With the help of construction elements of market leading manufacturers, criteria for sustainability will be explained as well as how the demanded characteristic values for sustainability certificates of BNB, BREEAM, DGNB an LEED can be easily determined: Developers, building owners and investors receive competent and product neutral information about the technology, future requirements and necessary verifications which are important for green buildings and investment decisions. Criteria for the Green Envelope Sustainability, energy conservation and environmental protection have been established around the world under the slogan Green Building and have developed into a global engine for the economic recovery. The construction and real estate sector play a decisive role in the reduction of CO 2 emissions, since large amounts of energy are consumed by construction and the use of buildings over a long time period. Green buildings are not only supposed to mitigate the risk of climatic change, but are also supposed to ensure healthier and more comfortable living conditions. Windows and facades have a large impact in the process, since they not only consume energy but can also gain energy. To ensure the desired reduction of resources in practice, suitable sustainability certificates for buildings are in demand worldwide. Internationally, the US certification system LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most popular of all. 2 Page 2 of 5 Since existing certification systems do not offer the desired level of assessment quality and transparency, the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs has developed the "Evaluation System for Sustainable Building" (BNB), which has essentially been adopted by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Overall, 64 ecological, economic, sociocultural and technical influencing factors are being analysed. This facilitates an objective comparison of design concepts and products a significant benefit for builders and investors. What is important, however, is that there cannot be any sustainable products, since evaluation without knowing the intended use is not possible and neither can we live inside products. This can easily be demonstrated with the example of a sound-insulated window: Living comfort and health of the occupants of a building near an airport are being visibly improved by it, whereas such sound insulation is superfluous in a quiet ambience. The assessment of sustainability begins with an EPD Type III declaration of the products (Environmental Product Declaration) in accordance with ISO or EN 15804, in which the environmental influences during manufacturing are documented, such as the impact on the ozone layer, the potential of global warming or the acidification of the soil, water and air. However, the impact over a longer period of use on exterior components such as windows, facades and glazing is considerably higher during the manufacturing process, which means that high-quality products having low energy, maintenance and cleaning costs are rewarded by certification and will have better prospects and opportunities with tenders in the future. However, the requirements and verifications are complex, time-consuming and often still unknown to the construction industry, which means that there is considerable need for dissemination of information to developers and manufacturers. This is exactly the task that the special show, organised by ift Rosenheim in collaboration and association with Messe München, is dealing with. The special show Green Envelope presents how innovative buildings capable of gaining energy, green buildings and sustainable building can be realised with the help of. The exhibits of leading manufacturers showcase future-proof technology and how mechatronic components can be harnessed to enhance safety and living comfort. The special exhibition is divided into following subject areas: 1. Mechatronics Windows as natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems (NSHEV) as well as mechanical construction elements to attain enhanced comfort and safety

Quality Features for construction elements having high quality of utilisation and suitability of use Developers, builders and investors thus receive competent and productindependent information about the technology, future requirements and how the required characteristic values for certification according to BNB, DGNB, LEED or BREEAM can easily be obtained. These include findings on Energy efficiency (U value, solar gains, shading, ventilation etc.) Economy (costs of investment, operation and recycling; value etc.) Ecology (CO 2 reduction, health, recycling etc.) Adaptation and preservation of value (flexibility, design etc.) Comfort and safety (handling, living experience, air quality etc.) Technical quality and characteristic values Suitability for use and durability Additionally, simple procedures for the preparation of life cycle assessments and EPDs as well as practice-oriented product category rules (PCR) and aids for tender specifications have been introduced, with the help of which the necessary product information for certification conforming to BNB, DGNB, LEED or BREEAM can be obtained.
