Types of Contractors Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) Long term contractors Vendors Employees of contract companies who are onsite on a regular basis but who have little direct impact to the process Off-Site Contractors Non-routine; 1 day several months in duration
OCIP Contractors Long term contractors Electricians Pipefitters Scaffold builders General purpose contractors Vested interest in the success of ADM Pre-qualification process
Why Does it Work? Long term employees If more than 20 people are onsite, a safety professional is required by ADM Inclusion in all Safety programs Contractor Safety Committees Audit Incident Investigation Rules and procedures Contract companies are required to provide training to all employees and provide documentation of the training
Vendors Companies who have employees onsite on a regular basis Little or no impact on the process Required to attend a forty-five minute presentation on general rules, PPE etc. Retrained annually
Off-site Contractors Temporary jobs when specific expertise is required Paving companies Projects requiring additional manpower New equipment installation Rail repair contractors Equipment service companies
Biggest Opportunity Off-site contractors Traditionally would go through the 45 minute vendor training OCIP contractors and engineering staff developed training program in addition to the 45 minute vendor training
Training Requirements The Project Manager for the contract group does additional training to include: Where to enter/exit the plant and pick up emergency pager Review the work area including exit routes and safety showers as well as any specific requirements pertaining to the area (ie. Combustible dust; Lower Explosive Limit) Emergency procedures to include the location of the nearest storm shelter and muster location.
