Now in their 6th year, they have become a highlight in the retail calendar, where senior retailers, industry experts and suppliers come together to recognise and celebrate success and innovation. Against a background of enormous change, convenience and fuel retailers are demonstrating their resilience, innovation and the ability to adapt and prosper in a new retail landscape which offers huge opportunities. Washington based NACS, the international association for convenience and fuel retailing, in partnership with UK based Insight Conferences Ltd, provide the industry with one of the greatest benchmarks of convenience retail excellence around the world. Our awards programme attracts entrants from all countries and all varieties of convenience format and company sizes. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to receiving this year s entries and announcing the short list. Uniquely our awards involve the global convenience and fuels industry in a very direct way. All convenience & fuel retailers, industry suppliers and third party experts have a say in choosing the short list for our award by casting their votes online. Over the years thousands of you have become involved in our award programme this way. Each shortlisted entry you choose is then examined and debated by the Grand Jury, a team who together lead some of today s most well respected retail and supplier businesses in the World. 3 WHAT ARE THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENIENCE RETAIL AWARDS? The International Convenience Retail Awards are a global platform that recognises and promotes convenience retail excellence. Convenience & fuel retailers from all countries will compete to win these highly coveted awards. NACS Insight Awards offer convenience retailers from around the world the opportunity to showcase innovation and creativity within their business and to the wider international sector. Who are the Judges? All of the judges are drawn from leading convenience retailers, business schools, convenience industry publishers and leading consultancies and are senior and respected representatives in our industry. Who can enter? Convenience retailers from any country in the world and all retail sectors can submit entries. (Third parties such as supplier partners, advertising agencies, design agencies and PR agencies are also welcome but they must have the approval of the retailer). 4 ENTRY CATEGORIES ENTRIES TO THE 2014 INTERNATIONAL CONVENIENCE RETAILER AWARDS ARE NOW OPEN The categories and the judging criteria have been reviewed and updated for 2014 to reflect today s retail challenges. SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Aligning yourself with the NACS Insight International Convenience Retail Awards NACS INSIGHT INTERNATIONAL CONVENIENCE RETAILER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014 Our globally recognised honour selects the most innovative and successful international convenience and petroleum retail store of the year. Our Award Winner earns the accolade of the best convenience store in the World. This award focuses on flagship stores which break new ground and set new standards for the industry, from the point of view of innovation. All sized businesses can enter and entries can refer to broader initiatives or format roll-outs in a wider business. However, successful entries will focus on one particular store as the show piece. Entry Criteria Convenience retailers are required to submit a PowerPoint presentation of no more than 12 slides covering some, or any, of the following criteria: Format innovation: have you developed a new concept which redefines the offer? Technology, loyalty and payment systems: innovations which tie shoppers to physical locations and reward them on the spot. Range: development of new growth categories and services. For example; in fresh, healthy food for now and later, own brand, foodservice, collection point partnerships, extended aisle. People development: employee development, incentives and training, success in best place to work awards. The Royal Horseguards Hotel Customer service initiatives and segmentation: including for example a focus on female shoppers, singles, generation based marketing and self-checkout. Results: performance indicators for the store including; customer growth, basket size, sales growth, future plans for roll-out. (This information will be treated with complete confidentiality and only shared with our judging panel). Notes: In addition to the PowerPoint, video footage is highly recommended for submissions. Additionally please supply up to 20 good quality photos of the store. (Entrant profiles will be featured on NACS and Insight media platforms material will be approved prior to publication). 5 ENTRY CATEGORIES INTERNATIONAL STORE MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014 INTERNATIONAL CONVENIENCE INDUSTRY LEADER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014 NACS INSIGHT INTERNATIONAL STORE MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014 Our globally recognised honour selects the most successful international convenience and petroleum retail Manager of the year. Our Award Winner earns the accolade of the best convenience store manager in the World. This award is open to all store managers from the convenience and petroleum retail industry. Entry Criteria Convenience Store Managers are required to submit a PowerPoint presentation of no more than 12 slides covering ALL of the following criteria: In addition please submit 250 words describing your team and the business you manage. 12 slide PowerPoint illustrating: Success: how you have managed your team to make the store a success over the last 12 months Differentiation: how your personal management approach effectively differentiates your store from your competition Innovation: detail the innovations you have implemented over the last year, and benefits to the store business Challenges: explain the challenges you have faced in the job Achievements: what are your major achievements over the past 12 months Techniques: your techniques for motivating your people Communication: strategies to inspire both colleagues and customers Promotion: how the NACS Insight Store Manager of the Year award would be promoted if you win Deadline for entries: 28th March 2014 INTERNATIONAL CONVENIENCE INDUSTRY LEADER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014 This award selects the most successful and influential international convenience and fuels industry leader of Our new award represents our awareness that industry progress is not only driven by innovative companies, but by the energies, determination and inspiration of the individuals who lead them. Our new award seeks to recognise and honour this contribution. Entry Criteria Suppliers, or retailers are required to write to our international Grand Jury Panel to nominate their Convenience Industry Leader of In their confidential submission we will require supporting evidence and perspectives on why they are nominating certain individuals and what they themselves feel has been their impact on our industry. Unlike our other awards our Grand Jury Panel will then follow up all nominations objectively and assess the merits of each case before deciding upon a winner for Achievements could cover the following areas: Overall results: how has the supplier or retailer transformed his or her business? Innovation: how has the supplier or leader delivered innovation? Inspiration: what is it about this individual s management style and personality which has made them so effective? Industry support: how has this individual also supported and contributed towards the development of our industry? Notes: Submissions should be made by third parties, i.e. not existing employees. A supplier could for example nominate a retailer leader in a leadership role. This role does not necessarily need to be a CEO role, leadership can come from all levels of organisations. Retailers can also nominate individuals in supplier companies who have played an important role in transforming their companies. Submissions should come in the form of a concise and will be treated with complete confidentiality. Deadline for entries: 28th March 2014
