Saw cut existing surfacing to provide a straight, vertical joint. 13. TOPSOIL STRIPPING A. Strip topsoil from project area to whatever depths encountered; prevent intermingling with underlaying subsoil or other objectionable material. Remove heavy growths of grass from areas before stripping topsoil. B. Stockpile topsoil in storage piles in areas as designated by Engineer. Construct storage piles to freely drain surface water. Cover or sprinkle water on storage piles to prevent windblown dust. 14. GRADING A. Excavate to achieve necessary dimensions, extending a sufficient distance from construction as required for bracing, supports, concrete formwork, and other required construction. B. Subbase for concrete slab shall be select soils complying with ASTM D247 soil classification group GW (well-graded gravel), GP (poorly-graded gravel), SW (well-graded sand), or SP (poorly-graded sand). Aggregate shall pass a 1-1/2 in. sieve and not more than 35% shall be retained on a No. 10 sieve. Maximum of 5% by weight shall pass a No. 200 sieve. On-site soils are not approved for concrete slab subbase material. C. Subgrade and subbase for concrete slabs shall be compacted to 92% of Modified Proctor density, ASTM D CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE SLAB A. Products: 1. Cement: Portland cement, ASTM C150, Type I. 2. Aggregates: Fine and coarse aggregates, ASTM C33, consisting of clean, hard, durable sand and crushed rock, crushed gravel, or gravel. Coarse aggregate shall meet grading requirements for size number 67, 57, or 467. Maximum coarse aggregate size for each class of concrete shall be as indicated in schedule below. Ratio of coarse aggregate to fine aggregate shall not be less than 1:1 nor more than 2:1. 3. Water: Mixing water shall be potable, free of oil, acid, excessive alkalinity, organic matter, and salts. 4. Admixtures: Air-entrained admixture shall conform to ASTM C260. Other admixtures which do not adversely affect strength and durability of concrete may be used with permission of A/E, if used in strict accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Care shall be exercised to assure that the admixture does not increase or decrease air content outside of allowable limits. Do not use salt or chemical anti-freeze admixtures. 5. Integral Concrete Hardener: Dry-powder material added integrally to concrete mix to provide hardness and increased durability; Cementec "Hard-Cem", or approved equal. 6. Reinforcing Steel: ASTM A615, Grade 60, new billet steel bars. 7. Welded Wire Fabric: ASTM A185, welded steel wire fabric. 8.
