4 2.Environmental Policy Our company s Environmental Policy is governed by our core value of quality in all aspects of our operations. We aim to achieve excellence in environmental management and have developed this policy in recognition of our responsibilities to think globally and act locally in relation to the environment. In particular Irish Country Meats will : Ensure that environmental factors are integrated into business decisions. Use renewable resources where possible, and conserve natural resources where renewable resources are not available. Ensure that emissions arising from this activity will meet and,where appropriate exceed the requirements of all relevant legislation and where no regulation exists the company will consider setting its own standards. Promote recycling and the use of recycled materials, whilst reducing consumption of materials wherever practicable. Design energy efficiency into new processes, operations and buildings and manage energy wisely in all operations. Minimise waste in all operations. Work with our suppliers to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment through a quality purchasing policy where possible. Include environmental issues in company training programmes and encourage the implementation of sound environmental practices. Operate a Public Information Programme to make information on the environmental performance of our company available to the public. Monitor and review progress in the implementation of our Environmental Management Programme and publish an environmental performance report on an annual basis. Provide the necessary resources to ensure that, where possible, the environmental objectives and targets set by the company are achieved
5 3.Site Description Irish Country Meats, Navan is involved in the slaughter of sheep and lambs to produce sheep and lamb meat, and the boning of some beef carcasses. The normal operating hours of the activity are 7.00a.m. to 4.30p.m.Monday to Friday. The activity involves a number of separate processes: Sheep Processing Livestock intake Processing Carcass Dressing Dispatch Boning of Lamb carcasses Intake of beef carcasses Butchering Packing Dispatch. The number of employees at this established activity is 100.

17 7.0 Environmental Management 7.1 Environmental Management Programme Report 2009 Objective: To reduce energy costs and increase recycling of waste To reduce the amount of water and energy used by a minimum of 5% and to increase the amount of cardboard and plastic recycled Time Frame: December 2010 Achievement: Sustainable Energy Ireland carried out an Energy Efficiency Audit in This was an in depth report with recommendations on energy saving in the following areas a. ESB Usage Reductions b. Gas Reductions c. Water Usage Reductions d. Refrigeration Usage Reduction This is an on going process and the exact amount of Energy Reduction will be quantified at the end of 2010 Greenstar have been contracted to remove all municipal waste & recyclable cardboard/ plastic from April Part of the agreement was that Greenstar would Audit the site and will help with the recommendations & implementation of further segregation of waste streams.

SCOPE Irish Country Meats, Navan shall establish and maintain documented environmental objectives and targets. When establishing and reviewing objectives, Irish Country Meats shall consider : Compliance with conditions and schedules of their IPPC Licence. Technological options. Financial,operational and business requirements. Views of interested parties as represented by Public Complaints. Objectives and targets shall be consistent with the environmental policy, including the commitment to prevention of pollution. RESPONSIBILITY The Plant Manager is responsible for this Environmental Management Programme.
