15 oal Derives much of current global economic development In Pakistan, share of coal in energy mix during decades declined from 68% 35% in 1958 and 5% in This is be increased keeping in view the following reasons Sindh lignite reserves are abundant and suitable for power generation as compared lignite being used in the World for electricity generation. It is a cheap dependable energy source and would meet countries energy requirements for centuries. Necessary infrastructure support accessibility and availability of coal/lignite is available, which includes road/transport, communication, water and energy utilities, etc. Indigenous resource and free from uncertainties of fuel supply and associated danger of dictation of oil prices by oil suppliers. Oil deposits are limited with high cost which is increasing day by day and will continue increase. Payment in foreign exchange. Gas deposits of the country are depleting and continue deplete and it has other important uses, such as fertilizer, etc Main fuel for electricity generation in USA, Germany, China, India, South Africa, Australia, much of Central Europe, etc. Provide over 23% of global primary energy needs and generates about 39% of the world s electricity. Global primary coal consumption will rise at an average annual rate of 1.4% up In all regions, coal use will become increasingly concentrated in power generation, which will account for almost 90% of the increase in demand between 2000 and 2030 source World energy outlook Play integral role in the economic and social development of many countries. Coal will play in addressing the three pillars of sustainable development economic, social and environmental, needs no elucidation
16 Vision for Development of Coal Resources Pakistan has huge deposits of low rank, good quality lignite (coal), suitable for power generation, gasification and other purposes Pakistan is deficient in power generation and wants generate energy from indigenous resources, specially from coal meet the requirements Clean coal technology, environmental friendly power generation on coal are coming up. Policy is facilitate the invesrs and offer fiscal and financial incentives/concessions for development of its indigenous resources Government of Pakistan encourages establishment of power projects in public-private partnership. The incentives/concessions available private power projects will also be available projects implemented under public-private partnership
17 Continued Share of coal in country s energy mix is be increased at least 19% by 2030 and 50% by To increase coal production from 4.00 million nes 20 million nes in year 2015 Maximize utilization of coal resources increase demand of energy and local industry Active participation of private secr in coal based projects. Sustainable supply of energy through coal and competitive price all secrs of economy.
