FDB MedKnowledge FDB MedKnowledge is the healthcare industry s most widely used source of drug information utilized at the point of care. Encompassing FDA-approved prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications and commonly prescribed medical supplies, it combines descriptive drug information, unique identifiers and pricing data with an extensive array of clinical decision support modules. FDB MEDKNOWLEDGE DETAILS Clinical Modules Dosage Range Check Module The Dosage Range Check Module helps clinicians monitor the appropriateness of drug dosing. It uses age and route of administration to identify safe dosage levels based on certain patient-specific parameters. Drug Allergy Module The Drug Allergy Module enhances the ability of clinicians to identify and consolidate information about drugs known to cause significant allergic reactions, cross-sensitivities, and drug intolerances by identifying and helping to avert drug-allergy issues. Drug-allergy screenings also look at certain inactive medication ingredients such as latex and peanuts. A specially developed Allergen Pick List streamlines workflow by giving the user a convenient way to quickly and easily record a patient s allergy, enabling fast and convenient allergy profiling. Drug-Disease Contraindications Module The Drug-Disease Contraindications Module creates warnings concerning the use of certain drugs in patients with specific conditions and diseases, or patients who have had certain procedures or diagnostic tests. The module provides clinical screening using a centralized problem list and provides timely patient disease/problem screening at drug order entry, modification and verification. When a drug-disease conflict occurs at time of order entry within the MEDITECH system, the system checks the problem list each time a medication order is entered. Drug-Drug Interaction Module The Drug-Drug Interaction Module helps clinicians identify and prevent clinically-significant drug interactions. It includes drug interaction information for prescription drugs, OTC drugs, alternative therapies, and inactive ingredients. Drug-Food Interaction Module The Drug-Food Interaction Module alerts clinicians of potential interactions that may occur between certain drugs and foods and provides the capability of generating precautions or other advisory specific to each potential drug-food interaction. 4 Duplicate Therapy Module The Duplicate Therapy Module helps clinicians prevent patients from receiving duplicate drug therapies through the deployment of a highly-specific clinical screening of duplicate drug therapies with clinical relevance. The module helps detect potentially problematic duplications not simply two drugs in the same therapeutic class, which may be valid to be prescribed together. For further refinement, a customizable field indicates how many drug duplicates are acceptable for a specific grouping. Indications Module The Indications Module is a tool for assessing the appropriateness of drug therapy for a specific medical condition, based on current medical evidence. Patient Education Module The Patient Education Module encompasses an extensive collection of drug monographs in consumer language. The monographs are concise summaries of the important information patients need to know about drugs. Precautions Modules FDB's Drug Precautions Modules offer guidance for professionals in making appropriate decisions about drug therapy in pediatric, geriatric, pregnant, or lactating patients. Side Effects Module The Side Effects Module addresses the problem of drug side effects and drug-induced illness. As a reference tool, detailed lists of drug side effects can be generated for use by clinicians in patient monitoring and counseling. As a screening tool, clinicians can check the potential for additive drug side effects between two or more medications. FDB FOUNDATIONS FDB Medical Lexicon The FDB Medical Lexicon (FML) is a specialized medical vocabulary relating drug products to various diagnoses and health-related concepts in numerous FDB disease decision support and dosing modules. Each Disease Identifier (DxID) in the FML is linked to various textbook names, as well as preferred professional names and synonyms; layman names and synonyms; and standard abbreviations. Cross-references are made between DxIDs and ICD-10 codes. Use of FML semantic networks" enables applications to generate more comprehensive yet precise hits and alert messages, when compared to traditional approaches to navigating hierarchical medical vocabularies. FDB Enhanced Therapeutic Classification System The FDB Enhanced Therapeutic Classification System is an advanced drug classification system with virtually unlimited levels of specificity, for easy formulary maintenance and drug selection. It allows drugs to reside in multiple therapeutic classes, with links to drug concepts at any level of the hierarchy. DRUG PRICING Drug Pricing Information FDB drug pricing data covers prescription drugs and bulk chemicals. In addition, pricing information is presented for some of the most common nonprescription products, medical devices, herbals, and nutritional supplements. Available drug pricing categories include: Wholesale Acquisition Cost (WAC), Direct Price (DP), and Suggested Wholesale Price (SWP). Additionally, MEDITECH offers a flexible algorithm which supports a mark-up calculation that can be applied to the FDB price types upon customer request. FDB INTEROPERABILITY FDB Interoperability Module The FDB Interoperability Module Core Package enables medication vocabulary interoperability for IT applications such as those for e-prescribing, medication dispensing and EMR/EHR systems by providing cross-maps between FDB MedKnowledge drug identifiers and the National Library of Medicine (NLM ) RxNorm vocabulary. Users enjoy a single source of data delivery as files are synchronized with regular FDB data updates. The FDB Allergen Code Interoperable Mappings license enables MEDITECH sites to translate FDB based allergens into interoperable allergens for health information exchange via integration within Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO) supported tools. The Interoperability Enhanced consists of the Core offering plus SNOMED-CT to DxID codes; this is needed to enable Drug-Disease screening. PAGE 4

5 FDB for Order Sets FDB is part of MEDITECH s "READY" Implementations and Client/Server to 6.1 Pathway Implementations in which FDB standard order string content is delivered with ZynxInside. This drug knowledge is embedded in MEDITECH s 6.1 platform to support new CPOE implementations. FDB speeds the launch of CPOE by removing the burden and challenge for an organization to build some of their own dictionaries. FDB for Order Management In addition to ZynxInside order sets, content is used at Acute Discharge, Web ED and for Outpatient prescription writing. FDB Go-Live Med Orders FDB Go-Live Med Orders speeds progress toward CPOE goals by helping configure and optimize your MEDITECH Provider Order Management (POM) system. It is built according to your formulary mnemonics and utilizing your familiar dictionary terms. FDB then develops common order strings and matches at least one string for every drug on formulary as required within MEDITECH. Scripting software is used to automate the upload of these strings into your MEDITECH dictionaries. Most applicable for new customers deploying on MAGIC or Client/Server. OPTIONAL SOLUTIONS FDB AlertSpace AlertSpace is a web-based solution with an easyto-use, intuitive interface that is designed to let your organization fine-tune FDB's medication alerts. AlertSpace will enable you to improve patient safety by confidently making productive use of the most relevant alerts, customized to your organization's circumstances and clinician perspectives. Drug domains included for customization are drugdrug interaction, drug-allergy interaction including allergy pick list, and dose range checking. When Cloud Connector is licensed, the drug-disease contraindications and duplicate therapy modules are added to the AlertSpace tool. When a Web Acute and / or Web Ambulatory customer licenses AlertSpace, all 5 of these stated drug domains are included plus customization extends to include drug precautions for a total of 6 domains. Within precautions are 4 separate modules: pregnancy, lactation, geriatric and pediatric. This puts your organization in control to zero in on and to set your alerts for these distinct clinical areas.
