2 Ironton Russell Bridge Project Project Summary: October 1, 2015 Project Overview The Ironton Russell Bridge Project entails the construction of a cast in place concrete cable stayed bridge over the Ohio River with structural steel approaches connecting the towns of Ironton, Ohio and Russell, Kentucky. The bridge will provide two 12-ft driving lanes and two 4 ft shoulders; a driving lane and shoulder in each direction. Span lengths for the approaches vary widely as they cross numerous (6) rail lines, the Ohio River levee and city streets. On the Kentucky side the spans are 140-ft and 235-ft; in Ohio the spans are 110-ft, 144-ft, 186-ft and 144-ft. The approach bridges are founded on small diameter drilled shafts (Kentucky) or steel pile (Ohio). The main span unit consists of three spans; two flanking spans at 370-ft and the center span of 900-ft. The main span unit is supported by two CIP, 316-ft tall, diamond shaped towers, founded on large diameter drilled shafts with rock sockets. When completed, the 900-ft main span will be the longest span the Ohio DOT has built. The original contract value for construction of the new structure and removal of the existing is $81,266,742.05, with Brayman Construction Corporation the low bidder. Recent Construction Highlights - Main Span Tower 4 (OH): A panoramic view of Tower 4 in Ohio and the existing bridge as river traffic passes through the construction site. As Tower 4 nears completion its right leg is cast through segment 14 of 18 and the left through segment 12. Page 1 of 8

The concrete is finished using a vibrating truss screed powered by compressed air. During the month of September two segments (M3 and M4) were cast on the main span cantilever. Page 2 of 8

Installing cable stays six segments ahead on the back span appears out-of-sequence from a distance, but this is part of the contractor s construction engineering plan (above). Page 3 of 8

Bridge and Roadway Summary Tower 3 (KY), the Ohio back span, and the Kentucky back span are complete. At Tower 4 (OH), Segment 12 left (downstream) was cast on September 21, Segment 13 right (upstream) was cast on September 3, Segment 14 right (upstream) was cast on September 24, Segment 13 left (downstream) and Segment 15 right (upstream) are currently being formed. On the main span cantilever, Segment M3 was cast on September 18, 2015 and Segment M4 was cast on September 28, Crews are currently setting up for post tensioning and launching to Segment M5. Back span stays B4, B9 and B11 were installed in September. Page 4 of 8
