Introduction 2. Methodology 3. Problem tree 4. Stakeholder analysis 5. Objective tree Agenda
2 Introduction Group target - to prepare the project about agriculture economics development in Myjava Region and present concluded information with strategies and proposals to regional development actors. Agriculture economics development studies rural economies, consists of: o Farm and non farm industry o Economic growth, development and change o Distribution of production o Finance o Trade o Supply and demand o Household units and land use All relevant information regarding the project we got from Myjava farmers, managers of cooperatives, institutions, local action group and municipality. A lot of information was observed by group members. 3 Methodology 4 2
3 Growing competence to get a financial support encourage to innovate and cooperate Improvement of certification system for regional products in national level can support the quality of the products and regional competitiveness. Development of culinary heritage can attract visitors. (Label, plumb, ) Processing of fruits, meat and vegetables to reduce the cost of storage and keep the identity of region. (Dry apples from local species, beef, cheese) Integrated use of local resources (wood: fence, furniture, houses, plumb, trees, wood match to the landscape) E.g. water for the animals without pumping systems Increasing profittaxes in the future for huge farmers They don t produce waste. They reuse most of it (Biogas, brickets) Local and national government not cofinancing local community projects on. High degree of diversification in small and big farms (more markets, equal work for all year, gives more job places for the region) Old machines generation cost of keep in goodcondition Priority of the CAP to stimulate diversification: the risk in the farm to make everything and make anything Try to gain new international knowledge and good practices and apply it. International cooperation for development of cultural and natural resources Breeding non local species (horses Columbia, Charolais cows) chose the animals that don t need care or training. Efficiency higher, less need for labor. Minimize the cost. They make international and interregional network. Internal developing of information system on natural resources Create and transmit knowledge and traditions by education, high qualification of the employees to the economic activities. In a specialized production, their is a balance of horticulture, animal and organic farming Develop the competitiveness of the farms and the region Small number of competitive farms in the region Lack of entrepreneurship of people who are implementing non profit orientated projects. Not enough info about region and local products. Local projects are very often based on European funds, lack of national support (exceptions: investment funds for development of innovation) Low efficienty in social farms, and hardwork make lot s of thing by them hands Financial has a too strong influence on the farm strategies and their activities depends on this support. (they do environmental things because they get subsidies for it, I no subsidies, they stop.) Local projects are very often based on European funds, lack of national support (exceptions: investment funds for development of innovation) Growing potential for national and international agro tourism exists The tendency is increasing. (2,5% of GDP coming for the tourism) Increasing focus on children and young families and tendency to try to attract them from outside the region. They want to create a familiar atmosphere Region tries to create possibilities and jobs to attract people Bigger supply for the touristic activity based on the crossborer collaboration. (Good strategy of collaboration using the Batuv canal. Also the boat was economically good organized. Shop on the boat, you can pay in euro) Recognised big potential for tourism development by locals for additional activities and income. Collaboration between touristic objects) Innovative way of thinking Good roads for all (bicycle and cars) Increase the number of inhabitants, costumers and visitors To develop and stimulate private, profitable social economic initiatives by education and cooperation in Myjava region Lack of cooperated privet profitable initiatives in economics, social activities Small number of inhabitants, costumers and visitors Local promotion is focus on the region, lack of EU point of view (there are only two information points and folders and website are in Slovak language Short distances of road for bicycles creating barriers for touristical activities Very local use of touristic places (shop for souvenirs at castle was not open) Growing risk to lose biodiversity and regional identity The region starts to become more attractive, so the prices of the cottages and land and salary start to increase Nuclear reactor can be a threat for agriculture, bioenergy and civil society Growing competition in the small market for the vegetables and other Sustainable use of the old buildings for traditional and non traditional farming Farmers decisions based on main principle productivity and vitality of the farm, in social farms they provided traditional harvesting to income for own family. Water for the animals no pumping systems, natural way Subsidies have no influence for development(only for basic needs) Improved management of financial resources Lack of financial resources and pure their management Lack of money to support local schools. Prices are oriented to the costumers income Personal contact is time consuming Economy of Myjava region depends on famillar customers, but it is not a habit to supply regional products to the daily life. Lack of private initiatives in social, cultural and economic developme nt Growing bureaucracy due to centralizatio n 7/2/2014 Enviromental factors clasification 5 Problem tree 6 3
4 Problem tree summary 7 Tree of potential for development 8 4

Negative migration younger people. Bigger subsidies from Agriculture funds. Promotion regional products and services. Offer their knowledge and work force. They contribute to create good image of company Motivation: salary, education, better quality of life Collaborated with farmers, government (EU creates strategies, determines the general principles, provides grants) With farmer, are employed in local farms, cooperatives, High salary Conflict: government 8. Local Inhabitants (residents) No supplies for labor places and income. Migration to other places. Prices are focus on their income. Big possibility to buy local products. Better quality of life. Stakeholder Family farm Cooperative farm Stakeholder s main objectives Be equal partner to participate to social economic activities Strong internal cooperation, income for cooperative members Positive impacts/ benefits Increasing income competence and low cost wide participation in social economic activities, and create new labor place Local Inhabitants Living standard Staying in one place for a long time, cooperative with farmers include regional product Negative impacts/costs Lack of trust, Decreasing income and high cost Decreasing personal members income and high cost Migration, not supporting local farmers Net impact More profit, increased participation in EU strategy implementation More social profit in short run and more economic profit in long run Constants live, connected with local development and strong local markets. 12 6
7 Vision and main goal Vision statement: In Myjava region the position of agriculture will be valued as diversified, profitable sector, where the competitive farmers will cooperate with each other, develop traditions, natural resources, and share their information, in order to manage region in sustainable way until Main goal: To develop and stimulate private, profitable social economic initiatives by education and cooperation in Myjava region. 13 Strategy of agriculture economic development in
8 1. New unique activities based on local resources (fresh water, landscape, wood, local breeding, fruit trees). 2. Promotion of local products (be known like a unique product in all countrycertificate) Improvement of farms management ( more than 1000 ha),which will be very productivity and based only for one/two path of production- specialization. 4. Development of social farms can bring more possibilities to get an additional money(direct selling). 16 8
9 5. Connection of the latest technology to get more added value to the traditional products ( possibilities to earn a money e.g. use manure from animals for bio gas station). 6. Creation more networks between farmer from Myjava Region and others Increasing possibilities to use energy plant e.g. energy willow, energy roses, miskanthus (stead for bio fuel, tuber for feeding pigs). 18 9
10 8. Integration of different social and economic activities (history and cultural, skiing and observatory place near the monument, networking with Nitra observatory) Reorganization schools to a multifunctional centers. 10. Preparation of guides by involving local inhabitants (guide visitors and to prepare souvenirs)
