3 DEFINITIONS Awning: An operating style of window with an operable sash hinged on the sides, and swings open at the bottom towards the exterior. Bay Window: A three-unit combination window consisting of central picture or fixed window and flanked by a pair of fixed or operating windows, set at a 45 angle. Bow Window: A type of window consisting of four (4) or more vertical window units set at an angle to each other to give an impression of a horizontal curve. Casement: An operating style of window with an operable side-hinged sash that opens towards the exterior. Frame: The enclosing skeleton structure of a window that surrounds fixed or operable sash or sealed unit, consisting of a head, sill and two jambs. Insulating Glass Unit (IG or IGU): A combination of two or more panes of glass, with factory sealed space(s) using a spacer bar. Also known as a sealed unit. Mullion: An extrusion that separates fixed or operating sash within a window assembly. Nailing Fin or Flange: A vinyl or metal flange integrated into (or attached to) the perimeter of a window frame for installation onto the rough opening header, jack studs and rough sill. Picture Window: A type of non-operating window in which a sealed unit is glazed directly into window frame, without a sash. Sash: A sub frame component that surrounds a sealed unit. A sash can be either fixed (nonoperating) or operating. Single Hung (vertical): An operating style of window, with fixed top panel and a lower sash that slides up vertically. QUALITY CSA Certified manufacturing facility, window units and glass units are regularly tested for conformance to CSA A440 as well as for weather tightness, permissible air leakage, permissible condensation within assembly, internal drainage network, wind loads, and frame structural integrity. Meets energy efficiency of North American Energy Star program. PERFORMANCE WINDOWS Performance based on single windows (not combinations). Picture windows (2000 Series) conform to CSA A440 when tested for the following: Air Infiltration: Rating fixed, metered m3/h/m. Water Penetration: Rating B4, metered 400 Pa. Wind Load: Rating C4, metered 4000 Pa. Casement windows (2500 Series) conform to CSA A440 when tested for the following: Air infiltration: Rating A3, metered (0.058m 3 /h/m). Water penetration: Rating B7, metered 700 Pa. Wind load: Rating C3, metered 3000 Pa. Forced entry: F20. Awning windows (2500 Series) conform to CSA A440 when tested for the following: Air infiltration: Rating A3, metered 0.229m 3 /h/m. Water penetration: Rating B7, metered 700 Pa. Paint and Coatings on Vinyl (PVC): Manufacturer's limited warranty of five (5) years from the date of manufacture against loss of adhesion, bubbling, cracking, flaking, or chipping. Vinyl (PVC) Components: Manufacturer's limited warranty of twenty (20) years from the date of manufacture against defects in materials and workmanship. Insulated Glass Units: Manufacturer's limited warranty pro-rated over twenty (20) years from the date of manufacture that air seal of insulated glass units will not fail due to defects in material and workmanship. Smaller window sizes do not meet Canadian egress requirements.

9 COST Costs vary according to window size and configuration, glazing and accessory selection. Consult manufacturer national or regional offices for specific product costs or relative costs. MATERIALS, COMPOSITION, PROPERTIES PRODUCT PROPERTIES Rigid thermoplastic polymer of poly vinyl-chloride (PVC), unplasticized. Combustible material, but self-extinguishing. Chemical resistant. Rot proof. Properties: Tensile Strength 2.60 N/mm² Notched Impact Strength kj/m² Thermal Coefficient of expansion 80x 10-6 Max Cont Use Temp 60 o C Density 1.38 g/cm 3 SHOP FABRICATION AND ASSEMBLY PREPARATION Frame: Fabricated with extruded PVC with integral nailing flange, mitered and fusion welded corners. Sash: Fabricated with extruded PVC, mitered and fusion welded corners. PRODUCT PLACEMENT Confirm window rough opening size by measuring at three (3) locations along the widths (left, center and right) and heights (top, middle, and bottom). Confirm rough opening is square by cross-measuring from corner to corner. Confirm rough opening is plumb, level, and not distorted. WINDOW INSTALLATION Place window shims on sill in each corner of rough opening and under each vertical mullion. Place additional shims for large windows on accordance with manufacturer's instructions or to CSA A440. Recommended dimensions for shims are 75 mm (3 inch) wide by 100 mm (4 inch) long (solid ply material). Lift the window into opening from exterior and rest sill of window on shims. Tack in place. Confirm window is level and square. Use additional shims at sides and top of window to ensure

10 all components are straight and square. Install remaining fasteners through pre-punched holes in the flange, not less than 150 mm (6 inch) from corners and spaced at approximately 300 to 450 mm (12 to 16 inches). Confirm proper operation of operators and that operating sash of glider lines up at the frame. Install drip flashing at head of window. Inject foam around window unit and framed opening from the exterior, using low expansion polyurethane foam. OWNER S INSTRUCTIONS Paint or stain and seal unfinished or exposed wood surfaces within thirty (30) days of installation. Paint Grade Wood Extensions: Factory primed paint-grade wood extensions, apply minimum of two (2) coats high quality paint. Prime half-round and curved jamb extensions, prior to painting. Stain Grade Wood Extensions: Apply one (1) or two (2) coats of stain, with top coat of lacquer or varnish. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEDURES PVC Window Frames: Clean using mild soap or diluted detergent solution with clean, warm water, and wipe surfaces with a clean cloth, soft bristle brush, or low pressure spray cleaner. Rinse surfaces thoroughly with clean water before soap or detergent dries. Wipe dry to avoid water marks. Hardware: Clean and lubricate hardware components regularly to prevent excessive wear. Use a diluted household cleaner and wipe clean all hardware components, including locks, hinges, operator arms, and handles. Rinse hardware with clean water to remove detergent or cleaner prior to lubricating. Rotary Drive Hardware: Lubricate using lithium grease, automotive grease, or Petroleum jelly. Hinges and Rollers: Lubricate using silicone based lubricants. Avoid using petroleum based lubricants. Insect Screens: Vacuum interior mounted screens with soft brush attachment or wipe with a soap and water solution. To wash, remove screen and lay on flat surface. Apply cleaning solution and let soak for several minutes. Rinse using a low pressure garden hose spray.

11 Glass Surfaces Clean with mild soap or vinegar-based cleaner. Wipe dry with clean, lint-free cloth. Clean grease, oil, tape adhesive, crayons, markers, or paint with mild abrasive, then repeat cleaning steps listed above.
