At any time during your apprenticeship training, you may be required to show this training standard to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (the Ministry). You will be required to disclose the signed Apprenticeship Completion form to the Ministry in order to complete your program. Description/Duties A Fitter-Assembler (Motor Assembly - Large Motors) prepares, assembles, maintains, installs, adjusts, sets-up, aligns, and modifies large and small motors, generators, and dynamometers. They work in a manufacturing production environment, building AC and DC motors and generators. A Fitter-Assembler (Motor Assembly-Large Motors), performs some or all of the following duties: * Reads and interprets drawings, work orders, and job specifications; * Assembles and installs motors, generators and dynamometers that are AC or DC power; * Assembles and/or fits babbitt friction bearings as well as an array of anti-fiction bearings and bearing components; * Assembles and wires high and low voltage, electronic components, bases, stators, and rotors; * Fits and assembles rotors, makes connections, assembles components, and balances rotating assemblies; * Makes set-ups to test motors and generators; * Dismantles, cleans, inspects, modifies, rebuilds, adjusts, and maintains components, * Sets up and operates assembled components for testing; * Identifies mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems. NOTE: A successful apprentice for this trade 661H will receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship under the Ministry legislation for the trade of 661H - Fitter-Assembler (Motor Assembly-Large Motors) No credit or exemption for the in-school component of 433A will be given for the trade of 661H. A credit of 1,000 hours on-the-job experience can be credited from 661H to 433A. ON THE JOB TRAINING (continued) Unit No PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (ON-THE-JOB SKILL SETS) 661H-1 Safety Works in a safe manner by adhering to all legislation (e.g. WHMIS); wearing and using all appropriate personal protective equipment; locating and applying all emergency response equipment; practising good housekeeping; operating safety equipment, lifting and rigging equipment; practising fire protection; applying First Aid as required; following facility's fire procedures; in accordance with OHSA, company procedures, and manufacturer's recommendations. 661H-2 Communicate Communicates by: reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, technical documentation, regulations, regulations, and written instructions; giving and receiving verbal, written, and electronic communications; writing job-related reports and documentation; interacting with other workers and customers; and, inputting and downloading shop floor computer tracking system data; in accordance with company standards.

ON THE JOB TRAINING (continued) Unit No 661H-3 PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (ON-THE-JOB SKILL SETS) Plan and Prepare for Fitter-Assembly Job Plans and prepares for fitter-assembly job by: reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, and job documentation; performing calculations for workshop procedures; verifying correct workpiece components and parts; determining work to be performed, and required materials and equipment; preparing work area; sequencing repair, fabrications, testing, assembly and disassembly procedures; planning fitting sequences; identifying and selecting parts and materials required for job; ordering parts and required tooling; laying out features on to the workpiece; and, sequencing machining operations; uses computer tracking system; in accordance with engineering drawings, job documentation, schematics, and company standards. 661H-4 Prepare and Operate Hand and Power Tools Prepare and operate hand and power tools by: selecting, maintaining, and using hand tools, electric power tools and accessories, power-activated tools, measuring and testing equipment, and checking devices, gauges, and meters; in accordance with manufacturers' specifications,

ON THE JOB TRAINING (continued) Unit No 661H-5 PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (ON-THE-JOB SKILL SETS) Perform Fabrication, Welding, & Fitting Perform fabrication, welding, & fitting by: setting up and operation various machines including shear, brake, ironworker, punch and 1000t press to bend angles, bend piping, press and heat material for straightening; preparing welds and fittings; tacking welds; soldering; brazing; flame cutting; arc-air welding; crimping connectors; and annealing, in accordance with company standards, engineering drawings, and OHSA. 661H-6 Prepare site for assembly Prepare site for assembly by: determining size of completed workpiece; determining bore and coupling sizes for shrink fits; lining up bearings; verifying that there is adequate floor space and ceiling clearance to complete assembly job; levels base or frames; in accordance with floor layout, engineering drawings, and job specifications. 661H-7 Performs Material Handling Procedures Performs material handling procedures by: determining the weight and size of workpiece; identifying and selected required lifting devices; performing pre-operational check of material handling devices; checking that shop floor location is clear and ready for load; checking that travel path/way is clear of overhanging interference and all obstructions; moving load; and, setting down load at require shop floor job-site; in accordance with OHSA and company standards,

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING (Continued) Unit No PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (ON-THE-JOB SKILL SETS) 661H-8 Performs Benching procedures Performs benching procedures to: dismantle, clean, inspect, modify, rebuild, adjust, fit, machine, and maintain parts and components; drill, tap, and ream holes; file, grind, lap, scrape, stone, and polish to remove high spots and to fit; bolt, screw, rivet, dowel, tack-weld, shrink-fit or press-fit parts together; in accordance with engineering drawings, work documentation, job specifications, and company standards. 661H-9 Manufacture Bearings Manufacturing bearings: flux, pour, and babbitt bearings; puddle, fit, and lap joint bearings; and machining before and after babbitting; in accordance with engineering drawings, work documentation, and company standards. 661H-10 Set Up and Operate Machines Sets up and operates machines including lathes, mills, portable drills, drills, tool cutter grinder, and hand grinders to: drill, tap, and ream holes; finish and polish surfaces; deburr; transfer holes; sharpen tools and cutters; and, change, rework, refurbish parts as required; ensuring that constant communication is maintained with machinist, and that machines selected are the correct ones for the application; in accordance with company standards, engineering drawings, work documentation, and OHSA.

ON THE JOB TRAINING (Continued) Unit No PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (ON-THE-JOB SKILL SETS) 661H-11 Perform Measuring and Checking Procedures Perform measuring and checking procedures including: inspecting parts for quality and size; calibrating measuring instruments and checking devices; conducting hydrostatic and pneumatic tests; inspecting electrical connections and insulation; testing electrical circuits and functions; checking surface finishes; verifying part/components dimensions to the drawings; verifying fit and functions of components; in accordance with company standards, manufacturer's recommendations, engineering drawings, work documentation, and job specifications.

ON THE JOB TRAINING (Continued) Unit No 661H-12 PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (ON-THE-JOB SKILL SETS) Assemble Motors, Generators, and Dynamometers Assemble motors, generators, and dynamometers by: assembling, installing, removing, testing, servicing, rebuilding, and measuring equipment gear drives, bearings, gibs, power transmission systems, compressors, pumps, fans, blowers, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; installing chains, brakes, and gear drives; installing bearings, gibs, and ways; installing power transmission systems; installing compressors and pumps; installing fans and blowers; installing pneumatic systems; installing hydraulic systems; measuring, cutting, and threading piping; bending and forming copper and steel pipes; assembling piping systems; preparing for welding; installing wiring and electrical components; levelling for testing; lifting and hoisting components; operating balancing machine; operating commutator undercut machine; installing and wiring electrical components, systems, and assemblies; measuring and checking all operations, measurements, dimensions, and fits during work inprocess; so that all parts and components are disassembled and assembled in accordance with engineering drawings, work documentation, job specifications, and company standards. 661H-13 Prepare Finalized Component for Shipping Prepare for shipping by: installing final components; performing final inspection procedures; bracing loose parts; securing component on skids and in require boxes; connecting heaters; performing weatherproofing procedures; and marking/labelling for shipping; in accordance with job specifications, work documentation, and company standards.

CONTENT Curriculum Outcomes - At the successful completion of this in-school program, the trainee will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes. Safety (included throughout) Be able to wear, adjust, and maintain protective clothing, equipment, and respiratory equipment; identify and practice safe work habits and good housekeeping; identify and handle designated substances; identify and follow fire procedures; identify and apply basic first aid; and working around mechanical equipment; in accordance with OHSA regulations. Technical Communications Suggested Hours - 45 hours Be able to communicate verbally and in writing; read and interpret work sheets, memos, computer outputs; and technical report writing. Technical Mathematics Suggested Hours - 60 hours Be able to demonstrate knowledge of metric and imperial systems, fractions, decimals, whole numbers, percentages, ratios, perimeters, areas, volumes, conversions, algebraic expressions, equation solving, materials estimating methods, and advanced problem solving techniques. Engineering Drawings - Suggested Hours - 30 hours Be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and sketches to determine object shape, dimensions, welding symbols, types and sizes of welds, fabrication, welding, job identification, assembly sequence, details, auxiliary views, thread representation and specifications, revisions levels, and tolerances of position and form. Demonstrate knowledge of welding codes, regulations, and standards including CSA, MCCR, CWB, AWS, ASMEU, ASTM, and API. Demonstrates ability to sketch details from engineering drawings. Demonstrates dimensioning methods, removed views, and interpretation. Demonstrates ability to discern oblique planes and auxiliary views. Performs required calculations. Metallurgy - Suggested Hours - 34 Hours Be able to describe, identify, or explain mechanical and physical properties of metals including ultimate tensile strength, elasticity, yield point/strength, ductility, hardness, toughness, density, corrosion resistance, coefficient of expansion, static loading, dynamic loading, and testing procedures.

Off-the-Job Learning Outcomes (continued): (MOTOR ASSEMBLY - LARGE MOTORS) Basic Machine Theory and Practice - Suggested Hours - 96 Hours Be able to demonstrate the ability to: set up and use lathes, millings, grinders, drills, and saws to change, rework, and refurbish parts for motor assembly process. Demonstrates planning ability, tool selection, set up methods, and tool preparation. Able to demonstrate benchwork procedures including layout procedures, filing, and tool grinding. Basic Shop Floor Computer Knowledge - 25 hours Be able to access and use personal computer; understand and use basic operating systems and files; access and use required software including spread sheets, word processors, and data base systems; connect on to networks to obtain schedules, materials lists, and drawings. Able to input, store, and download information for production, scheduling, and specifications of job. Dimensional Metrology - Suggested Hours - 60 hours Be able to demonstrate the knowledge of principles of dimensional metrology and the applications to precision measurements; able to identify and describe the fundamentals of DM; able to identify and describe measuring, checking, and gauging techniques using direct/indirect reading linear measurements and direct/indirect reading angular instruments; able to identify and demonstrate inspection and checking techniques; be able to demonstrate set up techniques using indicating gauges and comparators; and able to identify and select required measuring instruments and checking devices. Fluid Power - Suggested Hours - 40 Hours Be able to demonstrate a knowledge of basic principles and applications of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Demonstrate a knowledge of the types, applications, and maintenance of compressors, pumps, and ancillary equipment. Be able to identify, select, and install pipe systems and valves in the assembly of large motors. Be able to fluid mechanics calculations. Demonstrate a knowledge of ANSI and ISO symbols. Electrical/Electronics Controls - Suggested Hours - 30 Hours Be able to demonstrate knowledge of electrical and electronic theory in order to read and interpret motor assembly diagrams containing schematics and logic symbols. Be able to install and maintain electrical systems in the assembly of large motors. Demonstrate knowledge of insulations and clearance allowances for various voltages. Demonstrates knowledge of Ohm's Law and magnetic circuits. Mechanical Power Transmission - Suggested Hours - 60 Hours Be able to identify, select, and install required power transmission systems and /or components in the assembly of large motors, included are belt, chain, and gear drive systems. Able to perform required calculations including horsepower, chain/belt length, gears, and speed ratios. Demonstrate assembly and maintenance procedures for the alignment of components, fitting, and lubrication.
