RFID AS A TOOL FOR SAFETY, SECURITY, PRIVACY AND CONVENIENCE FOR INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEMS MATTEO VEZZOSI NXP TECHNOLOGY DAY 7 TH JULY 2017
Agenda Overview Passive UHF in Automated Vehicle Identification Passive UHF in hands-free access Key features Success stories 1
In the past: either read range or security HF UHF Functional Security SmartMX DESFire MIFARE Today: both read range and security UCODE DNA ICODE UCODE 2 Read Range
Passive UHF (RAIN RFID) tag IC with cryptographic authentication world-leading long range contactless performance cutting-edge security implementation for tag authentication remarkable high speed operation highly sophisticated secure privacy protection with untraceability feature All based on international standards * GS1 EPCglobal Inc. UHF RFID Generation-2 Version 2.0 ** ISO/IEC for proof of origin based on AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) 3
AUTOMATED VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION 4
Once upon a time, there was stop, pay, then go 5
now passive UHF tags enable MLFF* road tolling 4-8ddI&feature=youtu.be 6 * MLFF = Multi Lane Free Flow
and secure passive UHF tags enable secure vehicle identification 7
Secure passive RFID takes you well beyond tolling access to restricted parking area 8
Secure passive RFID takes you well beyond tolling payment for vehicle-related services such as car wash 9
Secure passive RFID takes you well beyond tolling payment for vehicle-related goods such as fuel at gas stations 10
Secure passive RFID takes you well beyond tolling 11 loyalty and superior customer service tool at drive-through facilities
UCODE DNA turns your vehicle into authentic credential for loyalty, micro-payment and access 12
PEOPLE ID 13
Application Challenges Accessibility for disabled individuals Slowdown of passenger flow at rush hour due to gated systems Some travelers in public transport networks cannot easily get to their ticket and/or cannot easily tap their ticket at the reader terminal. When every traveler has to pause, tap and wait for gate to open everybody gets slowed down, especially at high frequency stations. 14
Proposed Solution Gates which are open as their default state for free flow of people Passengers can go through without the need to tap (enabling hands-free access) and gates close only when a person is detected but no credential is present. 15
Hands free access goes beyond public transport Slowdown of passenger flow and safety risk due to gated systems Crowd management / location service / easy registration (at events, theme parks) 16
Hands free access goes beyond public transport Convenience and productivity increase in corporate environment Dual frequency solution enables two-level security: high security HF for perimeter access and secure UHF for easy internal movement 17
18 Secure long range RFID for safety of venerable road users
Secure passive long range RFID complements MIFARE and enables new use cases Together with our eco-system partners, NXP s core technology enables end-to-end solutions for convenient hands free access to public transport 19
Dual Frequency: SENSOR ENABLED SMART CITY WALLET <10cm High secure & privacy protect High security transactions Mobility Access Micropayment Multi platform / Multi application Banking / egov Mobile platforms NFC / BLE Cloud Support AppStore user individual content OTA content managment (incl.top up) MIFARE IDentity - optimized for account based <10m secure & privacy protect Hands free access On-/off-board transport systems without gates Parking access combined with personal access Visitor statistics / real time reaction Easy visitor registration Crowd control and emergency situations B2C Intelligence Pattern / behavior / preferences Easy access with secure pre-screen 20
21 KEY FEATURES
Key features of UCODE DNA family The expected Standard Gen2 Perks Serial TID (96b) EPC (224b) Kill & Access PWs (32b each) and more Top notch RF Performance 15m range on a license plate 10m on a windshield label or on ID1 size card The unexpected User Memory BlockPermalock 3kb The Extras Privacy Protection Crypto Authentication & Secure Trust Provisioning The revolutionary Two 128b AES keys + AES digital core for crypto authentication Trust Provisioning service offering for hassle-free deployment 22
Technical Requirements Speed Range Security Privacy 23
UCODE DNA brings unique value Features Cryptographic Authentication Multiple Crypto Keys Large User Memory Block Perma Lock Crypto-based Privacy Trust Provisioning Customer Benefit High security Expanded possibilities (serve multiple use cases) Store item- or user-specific data Data integrity, plus serve multiple use cases Effectively address important end-user concern Easier and quicker deployment, future revenue protection 24
