10 10 Feeding systems for piglets and meat pigs The Roxell Blu Hox feeders are round feeders as this concept improves the social behavior amongst pigs and increases the feed intake, especially with young pigs. Designed for piglets from 5 kg (11 lbs) to 30 kg (66 lbs) onwards Natural instinct helps start-up The natural rooting instinct learns freshly weaned piglets to dispense feed into the pan by means of the rotor. The combination of the smoothly turning rotor and an asymmetrical hopper provide a swift feed flow. Optimal growth from day one The feed and water are located in the same spot, within easy reach for the smaller piglets. A handy step up as part of the pan allows weaned piglets to easily reach the special weaning nipple. Every piglet determines its own feed and water ratio. 13 Transport systems 13 Wide range of capacities and features The Flex-Auger guarantees safe transport of different kinds of feed (pellets, mash, home mixed rations, etc.). We offer a wide range of capacities from 500 to kg to lbs per hour. Different diameters are available. Ideally suited to transport large quantities of feed in a fast manner. Flex-Auger overhead Increase the bio-security level: The Flex-Auger overhead keeps feed trucks away from the clean area to avoid potential transfer of infection. 18 18 Our customers Joost Beel Belgium In 1957, Joost Beel s parents started a pig farm in the Flemish Ardennes (Wortegem-Petegem, Belgium). With 60 sows and 400 meat pigs, they laid the foundation, almost 50 years ago, for what today is a reference farm in terms of productivity, sustainability and efficiency. Joost took over the farm in Some 7 years later he expanded to 150 sows and 1150 meat pigs. Today the pig farm accommodates 480 sows and 1650 meat pigs. The future of the family business is already assured. Their son Pieter-Paul is also well and truly infected with the pig farming bug. He works on the farm together with Mieke, Joost s wife. Roxell equipment in all compartments The houses are well equipped from A to Z with Roxell solutions: starting with feed bins, Flex-Augers, Discaflex circuits, Multifast controllers to feeders for sows, piglets and meat pigs... The Multifast concept steers the feed transport across all compartments. It sends the correct feed mix to all the animals, using preprogrammed feed curves. Drops in feed intake and growth rate, often associated with feed changes, are avoided. This results in improved feed conversion ratios and significant lower manure production. In the nurseries and finishing houses Blu Hox is used. In the service area and farrowing pens, Dos7, the individual sow feeding dispenser, was installed. Young maiden gilts, housed in small groups, are fed with Dozit, the slow dozing feeder of Roxell. For the gestation area, the choice fell on Fidos, the electronic sow station. Sows are put on different feed curves, according to the backfat thickness of the animal. This enables Joost to respond perfectly to the individual needs of each animal, so that the sow remains in perfect shape. The Roxell systems enable me to optimise the management of my houses. Each step in the feeding process is tailored to the needs of the animals. The materials used are durable and robust, and the digital output of the system provides me with the daily feed intake and growth of the animals. This way, we work much more efficiently and we can monitor productivity by optimising the feed conversion. Excellent results With a daily growth of 780 g in meat pigs, a meat percentage of 65.5%, a feed conversion of 2.3 to 2.4 (to 110 kg) and a mortality rate of less than 1% in meat pigs and 2 to 3% in piglets, Joost is more than satisfied with the results. Sustainable solutions Quality is at the top of this farmer s agenda. The Belgian environmental legislation requires pig farmers to invest in biological, sustainable solutions. Joost recently installed a biological air purification system. Following these investments, 73% of the ammonia as well as a large amount of the small dust particles are filtered out of the house air. Solar panels and the in-house water purification system, converting rain and drainage water into drinking water for the animals, allow significant cost savings in energy and water supply. 19 19 Cooperativa Agropecuaria Gral. Paz de Marcos Juárez - Argentina The Cooperative General Paz de Marcos Juárez started about 65 years ago as a cooperative from soya and grain growers. The cooperative was very successful and expanded over the years. At the moment they have about 600 cooperates. Together they farm more than ha, with soya, maize and grain being the main crops. In 2009, due to the poor grain prices, the management started to think about other ways to capitalize their own products. It s at that time the idea grew to start with pig farming, to transform grain and soya in to meat. Now the first unit with 1000 sows is up and running. In 2013 the first gilts and boars were delivered by Genetic Pork (now part of PIC). The farm is SPF and biosecurity is of the utmost importance. All the sows and boars are GGP s and GP s and are used to produce breeding stock for their own farm and for third parties. Sows are housed in group and wean on average 13.4 piglets per litter, with a farrowing index of After weaning the piglets are moved to the nurseries. They are housed in large groups and automatically fed, using all Roxell equipment supplied by Agromat. The feeders are from the Blu Hox Plus 30 range. Med. Vet. Carlos Ercoli, the veterinarian responsible for the pig division, is very pleased with the results. From 7 to 30 kg the animals achieve an ADG of 575 gr/ day and a 1.57 FCR with 0.8% mortality. all from the maternal type, are still fed on the same rations. To further improve the technical results, all the animals will go on a tailor made ration, according to their sex, age and weight. This will result in a higher efficiency, especially for the immuno-castrates. The animals, which are not kept on the farm, go to contracted farms, belonging to members of the cooperative. These farmers receive a premium per pig delivered, with a bonus or minus according to the results. The pig division is performing very well. The expansion with another 1000 sows is already underway. The final goal is to have 4000 sows, owned by the cooperative. The majority of the offspring will be finished on contracted farms, owned privately by members of the cooperative. From the nurseries, a part of the pigs go to finishing accommodation on site. Here they are using the Blu Hox Plus 120. From 30 to 119 kg the ADG is 908 gr/day, with a FCR of 2.8.
