your field in view Each field carries an enormous amount of information that growers could use to choose a tailor-made approach. This will result in optimum performance of a field, both in the short term and in the long term. Unfortunately, this information is very scattered in space and time. The Grower - owner or tenant - usually finds it very difficult to collect the correct data and to sort them in such a way that well-founded decisions can be taken. Unlocking field information via farm maps and the combination of this information with knowledge of crop management, enables the farmer to increase profit via targeted application of irrigation, fertilization, crop protection and soil tillage. This results not only in increase in produce and quality, but also in the efficient utilisation of minerals and crop protection products. Companies and research organisations want to make their knowledge and problem-solving expertise available, in a geographical environment, in the simplest and fastest way possible. has been developed to unlock field data and to combine these data with knowledge systems in order to offer the grower tools to develop an efficient soil and crop management strategy. GIS GIS Farm platform Maps Akkerweb 1

In 2012 originated from the development of the decision support system for control of plantparasitic nematodes NemaDecide (GeoNema). Farm Maps offers GIS functionality and a number of general generic applications, such as web services, to download satellite data or provide the ability to generate a task map. Third parties can use the FarmMaps platform to rapidly develop new applications. The environment serves as a connection between geographical field data and relevant additional information. The website has been developed for four target groups: 1 The grower: is an effective geographical information environment supporting day-to-day farm management and is source of information systems made available by third parties. 3 The application developer: A toolbox that enables the rapid and simple development of web-based GIS applications is made available. 2 The advisor: Up-to-date, GIS-based, advice can be offered via and its GIS applications can help to identify rapidly and efficiently the needs of the grower for each field. 4 The Wageningen University researcher: A platform to develop applications and to demonstrate Wageningen University knowledge (showcase of knowledge) to the outside world. In addition, is also intended to initiate new projects after consultation and in collaboration with agro business. GIS Farm platform Maps Akkerweb 2

offers companies, cooperatives and growers groups the opportunity to develop and demonstrate applications on a collaborative basis, and where appropriate to take these into production. Development costs of applications are much lower because offers generic functionality, which is shared with all applications. A brief explanation of the functionalities offered by is given below, with a list of applications already achieved or under development. offers users the following standard functionality: Login: offers an individual login for accounts; this means that only the user (grower) has access to the files he owns. Via single sign on the user is directly logged onto other services and applications that are relevant for him; this avoids repeated entering of user account credentials. Background maps: Displaying geographical information against a freely chosen background: Google maps, OpenStreetMap, Bing, or any other background. Geographical field information government: Can be downloaded using various web services, directly from the government or by public reference map layers of crop fields (most EU countries). Address details of growers/fields: Once entered, data are available in all applications the grower wishes to use. Drawing or downloading fields: Fields can be drawn manually or uploaded via various geographical formats: shape files, Google polygons, etc. Geographical farm information can also be uploaded from Farm Management Systems CROP (upload xml message). Cultivation data: If not available by uploading from a Farm Management Systems, provides a simple crop rotation application to provide advisory systems with cropping information (crops, varieties, growing period). Sensor data: Tractor logs, data via.csv,.xlsx,.dbf,.dat, but also satellite data (NVDI, WDVI, yield maps (geotiff) can be uploaded. Addition of a new format will take half a day. diting: Standard functionality for editing geographical information; Edit, merge or split fields, add objects, convert grid files and other formats into visual information. Linking: Web services to obtain and collect data for the farmer have been developed together with external Agro partners, such as NAK, NAK AGRO, De Groene Vlieg, BLGG and Alterra and NEO (corrected data from the National satellite databank). Storage: All Data remain the property of the grower/owner and data can be used temporarily or stored on his account for later application. The owner is the only person who can provide permission for others to view these data. Sharing information: The grower/owner can share his geographical information, whether or not temporarily, fully, or partly, with third parties (neighbour, advisor, agribusiness). Output: Generic output is possible. As csv file, as pdf for pictures, etc. This functionality is available to each application. Applications: A grower can use the free and the commercial applications developed with the toolbox that are present on the Farm Maps platform. ISOBUS and shape: task maps can be generated in ISO and the shape format (John Deere). Sending/receiving data: Edi-Crop v 4.0 and the elab messages are supported. These formats allow for both data and geographic information transfer. Double entry of data by farmers is avoided using direct web services to Farm Management Systems. GIS platform Akkerweb 3

From soil sampling result of PCN, through legal delineation of the infestation, to a task map for applying granular nematicides (nematostats). Toolbox Applications developed by third parties can make use of the basic functionalities of. A toolbox is developed that provides the developer access to the various groups of functionalities of. Fully developed applications placed on can be made available to all users for free or individually after license payment using IDEAL. One big advantage for the grower is that all applications on can exchange data with each other. applications Free applications My Cropping Plan: Entering grower s fields (manually, own measurements, web services, official bodies, Farm Management Systems) and adding crops. Map: Overview of all grower s fields on a map. Add layers of information from your applications: e.g. all fields that have been sampled. All fields with potato yield data, etc. Visualizing sensor data: Visualization of sensor data derived from e.g. Yara sensor or yield measurement. Free applications in development Geonema: Basic functionality of NemaDecide for each grower. Well-being map: disease or well-being map. Timeline: E.g., showing nematode infestations in grower s fields over the years (GeoNema project). A direct link to the decision support system NemaDecide makes it possible to examine different scenarios, compare them, and choose one for optimal control of potato cyst nematodes. In the same manner other sampling results (e.g. fertilization) are linked and displayed. Modules for top dressing are developed, combining these data with the soil types, ph, etc., producing task maps to enable precision fertilization (smart farming). GIS Farm platform Maps Akkerweb 5

Commercial applications Digital sampling request: nematodes, phosphate, white rot. Digital sampling results: Subdivision of field into sampling units for nematodes, phosphate, white rot, tracks, buffers, and display results of soil sampling. Web-KWIN: The KWIN (Quantitative Information for Arable Farming) booklet on internet. Agrifirm Mineral: Calculate fertilizer needs, based on crop, soil type, acreage. Task map nematostats: nematostats based on soil sampling results. Task map haulm killing: Biomass-dependent haulm killing of potatoes. Fuel log: Time, distance, fuel consumption, speed, number of tracks, and driving path of a tractor over the field on the map. Sharing application: Links large groups of growers and their information on. This application can be further developed into a landlord/tenant module in which growers authorise each other (temporarily) to enable exchange of information. Information collected on rented fields from various growers can be permanently linked to the field. This provides additional value to the field productivity. Commercial applications in development Life stream data: See your tractor driving over the field. Drive off your field and the sensor data are available in. Agrifirm Crop Protection: Calculate for all fields the need for crop protection. Task map top dressing: Biomass-dependent task map for nitrogen top dressing.
