EUROPEAN ANNAPOORNA WORLD OF FOOD INDIA square meters of European taste!
Annapoorna World of Food 2017 Hall 5, Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai About EU

Message from Tomasz Kozlowski, EU Ambassador to India The European Union is an official partner of the 12 th edition of the Annapoorna World of Food Over thirty companies from 11 Member States of the European Union (EU) are present. They offer a great variety of excellent food and drinks including fresh or processed fruit and vegetables, seeds and nuts, oils, bakery products, snacks and desserts, herbal products, dairy and meat products as well as energy drink, beers and wines. Food is at the centre of Europe's identity. Each of the 28 Member States of the European Union and every EU region has one or more food or drink products, or recipes, associated with it. This generates an important consumer interest in food, and it also instils a sense of local pride. 500 million Europeans enjoy the highest food quality and safety standards in the world. Our consumers benefit from a huge variety of excellent and affordable food. Our food is at the root of a vibrant European agri-food sector, which supports more than 44 million jobs in the EU. Since 2011, our agri-food exports have grown by 29%, outpacing all other sectors. We are now exporting 131 billion of produce - with a surplus of 18.8 billion. This is not just a figure - it is a huge amount of wealth being transferred to rural areas across Europe, in reward for the production of high quality, sustainable food and drink products. The EU and India have strong commercial ties. Although the EU is currently a modest partner for India in agricultural trade, it surely has a big potential. The EU exports to India in 2016 reached some EUR 850 million. On the other hand, imports from India to the EU have approached EUR 2.8 billion. As the current agri-food trade balance between the EU and India shows, there is a big margin for improvement for the EU exports to India in this sector. Therefore, improving market access in this sector remains a high priority on the EU agenda. By presenting these European products at the Annapoorna World of Food Fair we do not only wish to encourage a wider distribution of European products in the Indian market, but we also would like to inspire the Indian consumers to add EU flavours to the already very rich Indian culinary tradition, by experimenting with new products when cooking at home. I wish the Annapoorna World of Food Fair a lot of success and hope that besides enjoying the European delicacies, fruitful business exchanges will take place, not only to benefit both the EU and Indian economies but also to showcase the wide range of agricultural products Europe has to offer to Indian food lovers.
European Food and Beverages Quality EU quality schemes for agricultural products Agricultural products produced in the European Union reflect the rich diversity of different traditions and regions in Europe. To help protect and promote products with particular characteristics linked to their geographical origin as well as traditional products, the EU created quality logos, named "Protected Designation of Origin", "Protected Geographical Indication" and "Traditional Speciality Guaranteed". Protected Geographical Indication PGI identifies products whose quality or reputation is linked to the place or region where it is produced, processed or prepared, although the ingredients used need not necessarily come from that geographical area. All PGI products must also adhere to a precise set of specifications and may bear the logo on the left. Protected Designation of Origin PDO identifies products that are produced, processed and prepared in a specific geographical area, using the recognised know-how of local producers and ingredients from the region concerned. These are products whose characteristics are linked to their geographical origin. They must adhere to a precise set of specifications and may bear the PDO logo on the right. Traditional Speciality Guaranteed TSG identifies products of a traditional character, either in the composition or means of production, without a specific link to a particular geographical area.
