6 VERTICAL TILLAGE Conventional Tillage Vertical Tillage Field Cultivator Disk Plow Why Vertical Tillage? Horizontal tillage leaves yield-robbing density-change layers in the soil. Roots in a top, lower-density layer are turned sideways when a higher-density layer is encountered. Vertical tillage leaves a uniform, unrestricted soil profile that promotes maximum root development and increased yields. Plants raised in a vertical tillage system are more drought resistant, reach and utilize more nutrients, and have greater standability due to healthier stalks and root systems. 7 Vertical Tillage Tools 6 7 TURBO-TILL SERIES II TURBO-CHOPPER - Very versatile tool that sizes residue and prepares the seedbed without introducing yield-damaging horizontal layers. TURBO-MAX - Allows for a crisscross pattern for chopping residue and working the soil while still maintaining the benefits of vertical tillage. ULTRA-TILL -With its 7-1/2" blade spacing and adjustable gang angle from 0 to 6, provides more aggressive ground leveling, weed removal, and enhanced residue sizing. SUB-SOILER (Shown with optional pull hitch.) - Finishing tool that levels the soil without using sweeps. This tool evenly distributes residue and levels the field without causing a density change that can discourage root growth. TURBO-CHISEL - Eliminates compaction layers and soil density changes in one pass. Choice of no-till or straight leg shanks. - Designed for the corn-on-corn producers to loosen all root balls, size residue, and leave the ground level enough for one pass in the spring. Runs up to 12" deep.

8 Features & Benefits TURBO COULTER - The turbo design allows the blade flute to attack the residue vertically, providing improved cutting, penetration, and decreased hairpinning. The Series II Turbo-Till builds on the solid reputation of the original Turbo-Till as the most versatile vertical tillage tool available. It utilizes two ranks of our exclusive Turbo Coulters to aggressively chop residue without hairpinning. Turbo-Till effectively manages residue and reduces compaction in a wide range of conditions, providing a consistent well-prepared seedbed for planting. Improvements to the Series II include 3" C-shank standards and heavy-duty rubber mounted gang bearings as standard equipment. New 12', 15', 18', and 24' working widths have been added to the 30' and 40' models to better fit available horsepower. Current uses include warming and drying cool wet soils, incorporating animal waste, and preparing a consistent, well-prepared seedbed for planting. Turbo- Till is also an excellent fall tool to size and incorporate residue to promote the decaying process. DROP AXLE - The greaseless anti-rotational pivot pin virtually eliminates wear in the drop axle pivot. RUBBER MOUNTED BEARINGS - Greaseable heavy-duty self-aligning gang bearings provide excellent wear life and outstanding rock protection. Great Plains Tillage Pass TURBO-TILL - Turbo Coulters combined with Patented Rolling Spike Harrows create a smooth level surface on top of the ground and at the planting depth ensuring the planter runs smoothly and seed is precisely placed into a firm seedbed for quick emergence. SPRING COULTERS - Spring coulter machines raise and lower (vibrate) as soil density changes, leaving a rough, uneven sub-surface. A planter following a spring coulter machine has a tough time placing seed accurately. 10 Features & Benefits CHOPPER BLADES - The angled chopper blades run perpendicular to the Turbo Blades ensuring complete and thorough chopping of the residue and a profile that is level and uniform to the depth of the front coulters. The Turbo-Chopper from Great Plains combines our aggressive Turbo Blades with the action of a turbo-patterned chopper reel. This allows for a crisscross pattern for chopping residue and working the soil while still maintaining the benefits of vertical tillage. This unit offers the versatility of a fall tillage tool combined with its use as a spring tillage unit for seedbed preparation. The crisscross pattern of this unit allows for the loosening and removal of root balls. The Turbo Coulters are 20" in diameter with 10" spacing, followed by the 18" diameter chopper reels. Both gangs of coulter and chopper reels are mounted on heavy 3" C-shanks with rubbercushioned 211 bearings. The 18" chopper reels consist of six 4-1/2" high carbon steel blades. The unique spiral design allows constant contact with the soil to maximize cutting and reduce the vibration experienced with competitive reels. The chopper reels work perpendicular to the Turbo Coulters, providing a smooth seedbed for your planter. Our patented rolling harrow and reel combination is the recommended rear attachment for the ultimate seedbed for your planter. CHOPPER GANGS - Both the Turbo gang and the chopper gang are suspended by 1" x 3" C-shanks and both gangs use the heavy-duty 211 rubbercushioned bearing in cast housing to provide reliable service. 14 Features & Benefits ROLLING HARROW MODULES - Prepare the perfect seedbed by leveling the ground and crushing the clods. Ultra-Till by Great Plains is yet another innovative option in a systems approach to vertical tillage. It is intended for secondary field operations and one-pass field finishing prior to planting. The Ultra-Till can be compared to a field finisher or cultivator, but with one major difference. Because it s not equipped with shankmounted shovels, it will not create yield-robbing horizontal soil density layers. It is these compacted layers that roots have trouble penetrating. The Ultra-Till can be equipped with low-concavity disc blades or our exclusive Turbo Coulters on the front to effectively cut residue into manageable pieces and loosen the seedbed soil. Blade depth is controlled hydraulically. Following the front coulters or disc blades are two rows of opposing rolling harrow gangs, angled at 30. The rear gangs move the residue back into place, leaving a smooth, firm surface for a perfect seedbed. 16 Destroy Layers Shown with optional pull hitch Before After The Great Plains InLine Sub-Soiler is another step in the evolution of our vertical tillage family designed to eliminate yield-robbing compaction layers created by horizontal tillage tools such as plows, disks, and sweep implements. The InLine Sub-Soiler s frame features high tensile 3/8" wall tubing for added strength and durability. It is equipped with three to eight shanks that are spaced 24" to 40" apart, and is available with two shank options: 3/4" and 1-1/4". The 3/4" no-till shank and notill point provides maximum shatter with minimum surface disturbance. The 1-1/4" straight leg shank creates more surface disturbance for minimum tillage.

18 Attachments Buster Bar Chopper Wheel If your goal is to size and incorporate residue in the top 4-5" of top soil while leaving the soil level enough for a singlepass tool in the spring, the Great Plains Turbo-Chisel is the tool of choice! Great Plains exclusive 22" Turbo Coulters on 7-1/2" spacing start the process by slicing residue. The 22" blades run on a 1-3/4" gang bolt with cast spools, putting the weight in the gang for outstanding performance and reliability. The gang bearings are field-proven 211 rubber-mounted bearings with cast housings mounted to our heavy-duty 1" x 3" C-shank standards. The coulter bar is hydraulically adjustable for on-the-go depth control, offering the flexibility to till up to 12" deep. Models available are 7'-15' shank rigid or 9'-23' shank folding with a recommended horsepower requirement of 30 hp per shank. Units can be equipped with either standard chisel shanks throughout, or a combination of toggle trip parabolic shanks on the front row, followed by either parabolic chisel shanks or standard chisel shanks. 24 Disk Harrow With the introduction of the 3000 and 4000 Series Disk Harrows, Great Plains not only becomes a full-line tillage equipment company, but provides Disk Harrows with all the key ingredients customers demand in top-of-theline equipment. Six models, which range in cutting widths from 23' to 36' in 3-foot increments, promise reliability, superior cutting ability, optimum weight per blade, and a level, finished surface. The double offset disk harrow is still one of the most efficient ways to mechanically eliminate weeds and re-level rutted harvest fields. Like anything though, the best results come from a product that was designed for the job.
