1 Ready for New Discoveries MEng NanoBiosciences & NanoMedicine Postgraduate Program, Master of Engineering MEng 4 semesters in English, organized in modules, top international faculty Danube University Krems University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna Vienna University of Technology
2 NanoBiosciences & NanoMedicine Nanobiosciences and Nanomedicine are quite rightly regarded as the foremost fields of innovation in the 21st century. Although several sectors of research and application are still emerging, it is evident that the most significant developments are taking place at the interface between biology, chemistry, physics, material science and medicine. Thus, nanobiosciences and nanomedicine are based on an interdisciplinary approach involving the close collaboration of life scientists, physical scientists and engineers. Nanobiosciences and nanomedicine also involve the intentional fusion of micro/nanoscale engineering and biology for the benefit of both fields. The innovative contribution of nanobiosciences and technologies is a result of the combination of biological principles, chemical technologies, physics, and engineering in order to obtain nanostructures and mesoscopic architectures that perform specialized functions and possess entirely new properties. Nanomedicine focuses on the application of nanobiosciences, particularly nanobiotechnology, to clinical medicine. The strategies include refined molecular diagnostic procedures, development, targeting and delivery of drugs, and research on the pathomechanism of disease. Academic Directors Nanoscience and Nanotechnology have been identified as a key enabling technology for the future by all major research and industrial powers. In the upcoming EU Framework program Horizon 2020 the greatest impact of those technologies is predicted to be in the area of Health and Medicine. Our vision is that by understanding and mimicking the ability of biological systems to self-assemble multifunctional and self-repairing materials new engineering paradigms can be created that truly will revolutionize biotechnology, medical technology and beyond. Univ.Prof. Dr. Erik Reimhult University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, Department of Nanobiotechnology Nanotechnology has developed into an enabling technology for many fields of science. Especially in biotechnology and medicine, the approach through nanoscience is the principal means of making new discoveries and employing techniques of advanced analysis. Knowledge of the state of the art of nanotechnology techniques with special emphasis on biology and medicine will enable the students to keep pace with the most recent discoveries as well as apply the latest innovations in their daily routine. Univ.Prof. DI Dr. Erich Gornik Vienna University of Technology, Center for Micro and Nanostructures Nanobioscience and nanomedicine are interdisciplinary sciences and technology-oriented areas with the greatest future potential in life science. In very specific areas of medicine, nanobioscience and nanomedicine will most certainly transform our present chances of curing cancer as well as tissue and organ degeneration by the use of innovative therapies as well as diagnostic "nanotools". We will participate in this development by creating hundreds and thousands of innovative jobs in our society. Dr. Martin Brandl Danube University Krems, Department for Health Sciences and Biomedicine

The Master of Engineering degree course trains the student in following and contributing to future developments in this multidisciplinary field by offering a wide range of options in research and development. Job opportunities include those in biomedical technologies, the pharmaceutical industry and drug development, as well as sustainable energy, academic and industrial research. Requirements for Admission Candidates with a bachelor's degree or an academic degree in science, dentistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, engineering or medicine may submit applications for the Master of Engineering in NanoBiosciences & NanoMedicine program. Target group > Executive managers > Researchers > Decision makers > Medical doctors > Sales engineers > Graduates of natural sciences or medical sciences Graduates of this course will have access to a wide range of career opportunities in industrial and non-industrial sectors, such as > Government agencies > Health care systems > Academic institutions > Industrial companies > Charities or other organizations associated with nanomedicine Potential job options for NanoBiosciences & NanoMedicine Master graduates include > R&D scientists/researchers > PhD in or related to nanomedicine > Patent officers > Medical managers > Marketing engineers > Sales managers Final Degree The MEng program is concluded with a Master's thesis. The final degree "Master of Engineering in NanoBiosciences & NanoMedicine (MEng)" is awarded by Danube University Krems in cooperation with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, and the Vienna University of Technology. Nanotechnology has already made a major impact on medical research and the practice of medicine, from laboratory diagnostics and contrast agents for radiological imaging, to nanodrugs which are in clinical use throughout the world. Regrettably, these rapid developments have not been accompanied by an equally rapid growth in training and educational opportunities. A small number of institutions offer doctoral degrees in nanotechnology and nanomedicine. Only one specialization program exists for medical doctors interested in nanomedicine. We urgently require Master's-level programs that will produce experts who will implement the nanomedical revolution in industry and academic laboratories.
