1 Eastman amorphous polyolefins in mattress construction adhesives Mattress application Jacquard Foam Cotton cloth Independent spring High-density foam Cotton cloth High-density foam Jacquard Side spring is reinforced. Different materials might be used as layer materials based on different designs/specific processing. Major materials are nonwoven and foam. APO-based HMA is used to replace solvent-based/water-based adhesive due to environment and health concerns/production efficiency issues. Individual springs are contained in a nonwoven pocket (pocket spring). Adjacent pockets are glued with the aid of EVA-based HMA. Mattress hot-melt adhesives and the advantages of APO Advantages of APOs include: Better heat resistance than EVA (important for export to warmer countries) Lower odor than EVA and solvent-based adhesives (nonventilated storage possible) Excellent adhesion Shorter open times compared to water-based adhesives Demonstrated sprayability Formulation flexibility Experimental scope Build and improve understanding on how the amounts of the different components affect adhesive properties for mattress construction. Parameters studied include: Amount of polymer Amount of resin Amount of oil Addition of other polymers Eastman APOs offer these additional advantages: Lower odor than other butene APOs Lower color than other butene APOs
