The information we are furnishing you is based on test results that we believe are reliable, conducted at 3M laboratory facilities using calibrated test equipment. Your results may vary due to differences in test types and conditions. The information is intended for use by persons with knowledge and technical skills to analyze, handle and use engineered connector materials. You must evaluate and determine whether the product is suitable for your intended application. Background The 3M TM OGI multi-fiber connector system is a panel mount and backplane feed-through system utilizing the MT ferrule. The OGI connector system has metal components in the coupling and connector for EMI shielding; the coupler has independent shutters for eye safety. Panel mount couplings are available in single and quad formats. Backplane blind-mate quad couplings hold four OGI connectors. The subject test of this report represents a typical panel application. Discussion The GR-1435 standard applies only to single-mode multi-fiber connector assemblies. GR-1435 applies to three fiber optic cable types Type 1 media is multi-fiber ribbon (bare ribbon); Type 2 media is multi-fiber ribbon enclosed in a reinforced jacket with strength members; Type 3 media is multiple single 900µm buffered fibers. The tested subject in this report was a mated OGI connector pair combination of bare ribbon (media Type 1) to ruggedized fiber optic cable (media Type 2) in a single port panel mount coupling (see Fig 1). 8-fiber MT style ferrule OGI optical connectors were tested according to the procedures outlined in GR Fifteen connector pairs were sequentially subjected to testing in each of the test categories, as outlined in the following section. All 8 fibers were monitored for the New product and End of Service test segments. At all other test segments, fibers 1,4 and 8 were monitored. All testing was performed utilizing computer controlled test equipment, programmed to periodically take and record measurements in an Excel spreadsheet. 4 Results and Conclusions All 15 mated pairs met the qualification requirements of GR The details of the test procedures, configurations of the test sample population, and summaries of the data for all categories are contained in the following sections. Test Categories and Specifications for Telcordia GR 1435 The following test categories are outlined with the sample size and result below. Referenced FOTP (Fiber Optic Test Procedure) documents are noted when applicable New Product Sample Tested: 15 Mated Connector Pairs Test Procedure: FOTP-20 Requirement: Max IL 0.7 db, Mean IL per connector < 0.6 db, Mean IL for lot <0.4dB, Max RL -40dB. Result: All Passed (see appendix A for results summary) Thermal age: Sample Tested15 Mated Connector Pairs Test Procedure: FOTP-4 Test Conditions: 85 o C for 14 days Measurement: Initial and final Requirement: Max IL 0.8dB, Max IL increase <0.3dB, Max RL -40 db. Result: All Passed (see appendix B for results summary) Humidity: Sample Tested: 15 Mated Connector Pairs Test Procedure: FOTP-5 Test Conditions: 95% RH at 60 o C for 14 days Measurement: Initial, final, and a minimum of every 6 hr Requirement: Max IL 0.8dB, Max IL increase <0.3dB, Max RL -40 db. Result: All Passed (see appendix C for results summary) Temperature Cycle: Sample Tested: 15 Connector Pairs Test Procedure: FOTP-3A Test Conditions: 75 C to 40 C for 14 days Measurement: Initial, final, and at every temperature plateau. Requirement: Max IL 0.8dB, Max IL increase <0.3dB, Max RL -40 db. Result: All Passed (see appendix D for results summary) Vibration: Sample Tested: 15 Connector Pairs Test Procedure: FOTP-11 Test Conditions: 2hr per axis for 3 axis at 10 to 55 Hz Measurement: Initial and final Requirement: Max IL 0.8dB, Max IL increase <0.3dB, Max RL -40 db.
