2 Electronic Components Basics Tutorial The two day training has been altered in response to requests from past attendees and provides a Components Tutorial on Day 1. Day 1 is the Electronic Components Basics Tutorial to provide information and training on electronic components internal construction and characteristics. Understanding of the components construction will make for more efficient and knowledgeable employees. Day 2 is the updated Counterfeit Components Avoidance Workshop (CCAW). In addition to counterfeit detection procedures shown under topics suggestions will be provided for a due diligence program to avoid counterfeits. Topics for the Electronic Component Basics Tutorial, Apr. 10 Requests have been received from ID personnel and OEM quality instructors to provide training on design, construction and packaging aspects of the various electronic components. CTI has compiled information on the basics of capacitors, filters, diodes, integrated circuits, resistors and transistors. This is not an engineering level course but is designed for ID warehouse personnel and OEM/CM quality inspectors. The material in this tutorial will help these personnel have a better understanding and use of the information presented in the Counterfeit Avoidance Workshop. The topics will include: DIODES What is a diode Types and their difference Typical package types Part numbering - IN, etc. Use of OCM data sheet and catalogs INTEGRATED CIRCUITS Types and basics of die fabrication Types of packages Part numbering practices How die is made and marked PEMs, hermetics, BGAs, FPGAs, etc. Typical marking and shipping Use of OCM data sheets and catalogs RESISTORS TECHNOLOGY & CONSTRUCTION Types by materials and construction Parameters and applications Ratings and markings Data sheet info TRANSISTORS What are they How they are different from diodes Typical package types Part numbering 2N, etc. Performance and ratings Use of OCM data sheets and catalogs CAPACITORS TECHNOLOGY & CONSTRUCTION Ceramic, MLCC, disc, types of dielectric, tolerance Tantalum and polymer Ta Film types and construction Electrical parameters Ratings and markings on data sheets MILITARY COMPONENTS Standards specifications QML, QPL How mil differs from COTS
