10 IaaS workloads The fundamental unit of virtualized client in an IaaS deployment is called an workload. A workload simulates the ability of certain type of real or physical server to do an amount of work. The work done can be measured as transaction per minute (TPM) Apart from TPM, the workload will also have characteristics as Disk I/O, amount of RAM consumed, network throughput, latency etc. IaaS infrastructure from a work load perspective can be thought to consist of six Layers. 12 Pods, Aggregation, Silos Workloads support a certain no. of user When the workload reaches the limit of largest virtual machine instance possible, a copy or clone of the instance is required. A group of users within a particular instance is called a pod. Sizing limitation of pod need to be considered when building large cloud-based application. Pods are aggregated into pools within IaaS region or site called an availability zone. When the computing infrastructure isolates user clouds from one another, so that interoperating is impossible this creates an information silo, or simply silo.

13 Few points on PaaS and SasS Google App Engine is one of the prominent PaaS offerings. Different PaaS offering are PHP,Java, Python and Go. There is considerable vendor lock-in associated with a PaaS solution SaaS is packaged and most of the time accessible through interfaces like browser and over internet. Some of the SaaS offering are Google Gmail, Calendar, Goggle Map etc. A Considerable amount of SaaS software is based on open source software, this is referred as Open SaaS. IDaaS can be thought of as single sign-on (SSO) for the cloud.

15 Compliance as a Service (CaaS) Compliance is a more complex issue in cloud as the originating country of the request, the responding country and the processing country may be different and as a result under different jurisdiction. Though this is accepted as an issue, not many products or service appear for this. CaaS is expected to provide many things like managing cloud relationship, understand security policy, be aware of geography, Archive incidence, response such that it can be Queried, and all of them within a SLA. The solutions are vertical based right now. Athenahealth ( HealthCare ), bankserv ( For banking industry ), FedCloud ( For Govt. ), ClearPoint PCI ( For payment card industry)
