2 What is GXP Xplorer? Connect to your geospatial data wherever it is GXP Xplorer is a revolutionary data management application that makes it easy to locate, retrieve, and share geospatial data on a local network or across an enterprise. BAE Systems designed the software to provide a convenient way to access images, terrain, features, GeoPDF images and maps, PowerPoint files, videos, text documents, and numerous other data sources. With a single query, perform geospatial, temporal, free text, or advanced metadata searches without logging on to multiple systems. Using powerful search techniques, the application scans for files across existing external data systems, on shared network drives, and in an analyst s local shoe box. It quickly locates files and builds an online catalog for easy retrieval. GXP Xplorer keeps track of all available data by file type, and displays geotagged search results graphically on a map with supporting text and thumbnail images. The GXP Xplorer Desktop application and catalog are available offline as well to support disconnected operations. GXP Xplorer is an open enterprise solution that scales from a handheld device, to a desktop, to an enterprise server configuration with Web browser access. It fits in with existing data stores, runs in virtual environments, and can be tailored for one or multiple users. The application supports Microsoft Windows Server, XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Overview GXP Xplorer Enterprise Server s Web client was built for browser-based access from anywhere with comprehensive enterprise-wide sharing. Users can search multiple data stores simultaneously, then view, chip, and order imagery without the need for specialized software. Search various disparate data stores The highly configurable architecture provides access to remote data stores and external libraries. GXP Xplorer continuously monitors file directories for new data and updates the catalog in real time. Users can add new file types on the fly, and custom data types are easily recognized for advanced search. Two ways to catalog The GXP Xplorer catalog points to files in their current location, eliminating the need to move large amounts of data around the network. The system also provides an option to automatically move files to a userdefined location during the cataloging process. Customizable Web access The GXP Xplorer Web interface makes data easily available to anyone inside or outside the local network using a Web browser. Various map backgrounds are provided to customize the Web interface Markers and callout balloons display thumbnails and basic metadata information Developers can integrate GXP Xplorer Web services into other applications, such as SOCET GXP Subscriptions and notifications GXP Xplorer has automated features that reduce time consuming steps. Users can set up subscriptions and notifications with built-in RSS and KML query tools to receive alerts when new data is available. Data can be converted to selected formats during download. MAP PANEL Map panel displays footprints of the available data, which can be configured with Google Maps or an OGC-compliant Web Mapping Service. MARKERS Geotagged search results appear as markers. Click to view additional details and download. PREVIEW PANEL Preview panel tracks recently viewed results. DETAILS TABLE GXP Xplorer Web interface Details table displays metadata for geotagged results and non-geotagged files such as reports, documents, and presentations. 4 Share data across the enterprise Highly connected users access the GXP Xplorer Enterprise Server s Web interface to view data in a browser or on the GXP Xplorer Desktop. Users on the go can synchronize enterprise data with their GXP Xplorer Desktop application and take it with them. The GXP Xplorer Mobile app provides remote access to enterprise data via wireless networks. Together, the GXP Xplorer clients: Web, Desktop, and Mobile, provide seamless access to enterprise data no matter where the workforce resides. 5 Desktop Display, catalog, and share local data desktop-to-desktop. Overview The GXP Xplorer Desktop application is available as a module for SOCET GXP, or as a standalone product. It has a built-in image viewer, supports disconnected operations, and provides functionality that exceeds what is currently available in the Visual Coverage Tool (VCT). GXP Xplorer Desktop gives a single user the capability to catalog, search, and manage local data holdings, or query and connect to the GXP Xplorer Enterprise Server for access to additional data. Out-of-the-box integration Designed with the user experience in mind, the GXP Xplorer Desktop application is simple to install and supports multiple data types out-of-the-box. The application features the same Ribbon user interface as SOCET GXP and familiar Microsoft Office applications with tabbed functionality to streamline the geospatial workflow. A flip-tool is provided to scroll through thumbnails displayed on a map for quick image selection. GXP Xplorer manages file changes and provides nearreal time updates to the catalog. Organize, share data, and collaborate Similar to Web tools that help users on the Internet find restaurants, GXP Xplorer locates all geospatial data within an organization s firewall, and uses a buddy list approach to sharing data. The application actively searches the network for files, creates a catalog, and plots details on a map. Users do not need to push files into GXP Xplorer because it pulls together information automatically. A simple free text search can detect content within the file.
