2 TANK INSULATION SYSTEM A Strong Seam tank insulation system minimizes long-term maintenance requirements and also lowers the cost of a tank insulation package. These savings are made possible with Straight Line Industrial Services, Inc. design experience and commitment to quality construction, and customer satisfactory. Machine Formed Standing Seam Contour: The heart of a Strong Seam system is the machine-formed standing seam that bonds adjacent panels together. This sturdy seam extends the entire height of the tank and is also used on the panels that make up the insulated tank roof. Enclosed within this double-locking seam are retraining clips that attach the panels to steel cables which are firmly wrapped around the perimeter of the tank. CONSTRUCTION DETAIL 1. Tank Wall 2. Additionally, the outer skin jacketing is available in various materials and finishes. Sulphur, Hot Oil or Asphalt Tanks: When the tank operating temperature exceeds 275 F, these tanks will expand or retract during the course of tank start up or shut down. We highly recommend an expansion joint for the roof, the reason for this is as follows: Manways, Nozzels, and other protrusions are properly fitted and sealed. Strong Seam Easy Installation Skilled trained and certified SLI employees can install a system without the need for scaffolding, welding or hot permits. For most applications, a climbing basked (work cage) suspended from the tank s center nozzle or painters lug, permits the seaming machine and our personnel to travel the height of the tank without the need of scaffolding When a pipe or tank heats up, they tend to expand thus comes a need for an expansion joint. Without one, the insulation system stands the chance of cracking causing big problems and costing you more money. Many materials expand with the increase of heat, especially piping and tanks. To help deal with this issue, an expansion joint acts as a way for the tank to absorb the linear motion caused by the expansion. It is also recommended to do a 2 layer application for side-walls and roofs. Full detailed drawings are available with the installation instructions.

4 R O O F TA N K I N S U L AT I O N S Y S T E M SLI offers different Roof System layouts depending on the tank sizes. We can also make the roof panels with different materials such as, aluminum or Galvalume, upon request. Profiles: Flat, Cone, Elliptical, Dome, Sphere or Chevron Systems.

5 INSULATION TYPES & R-VALUES The Strong Seam Panel Insulation system consists of a composite panel produced from laminating a metallic exterior to thermal insulation. Adjacent panels are held together via a machine-formed weatherproof standing seam, the heart of the Strong Seam system that extends the entire height of the tank. Captured within the double-locking seams are retaining clips that fasten the panels to steel cables which are securely wrapped around the perimeter of the tank. Specially formed insulation panels can also be installed on the tank roofs. With this type of insulation system, there is no need for scaffolding. If the tanks location is susceptible to ground water or if the tank contents could leak, the bottom of each insulation panel can be equipped with cellular glass insulation. Strong Seam panels can be trimmed and sealed to fit around tank protrusions such as stairs, ladder brackets, nozzles and man-ways. 6 TANK INSULATION SYSTEM Steel Cables, temporarily held I place with stick pins or Finger clamp bands, are wrapped around the perimeter of the tank and secured with turnbuckles. Glass thermal insulation can be installed at the base of the tank, if there is a possibility of the tank leaking or ground water wicks. Nozzles and other protrusions are properly fitted and sealed. For most applications, a climbing basket (work cage) suspended from the tank s center nozzle or painters lug permits a Strong Seam System to be installed without the need for scaffolding.

7 HOT SERVICE TANKS Many of our customers are increasingly concerned about using less energy and managing their CO2 emissions when it comes to Asphalt or Sulphur tanks. This is the concern that many of our customers ask us about, and what we can do to help them reduce it or resolve it. In order to have a cost effective way of maintaining a constant heating temperature in these tanks, the use of sufficient and proper amount of insulation is essential and necessary for the exterior of the tank. Whether it is mineral wool or fiberglass, the tank insulation materials may get wet and cause moisture to build up between the insulation and the tank. Wet insulation is like a saturated sponge and can jeopardize the effectiveness of the insulation. In cases like that, we offer a double layer insulation system that maximizes thermal conservation. One of the best designs in its class to more efficiently reduce heat loss and allow future expansion in confined spaces. Besides those great assets they also offer long-term reliable performance, easy installation and are maintenance free. Electrical Heat Tracing for Tanks An efficient way to keep tanks at a constant temperature is through an electrical heat tracing system. With an electric heat tracing system, the electrical elements and thermostat are placed on outside of the tank. The tracers are used to keep the tank and the material inside at a specified temperature. The use of an electrical heat tracing system is easy to use and are very efficient and are recommended for material that needs to be kept at higher temperature to ensure the viscosity and easy passage through the process piping. The electric heating elements from the heat tracing is in direct contact with the outside of the tank making maintenance easier. In addition to electrical heat tracing systems, a steam tracing system can also be implemented. This system consists of a steam heated element being placed around the tank in lieu of electric tracers.
