BRIDGE DISTRICT Phase 1 Infrastructure Improvement Project (for work completed thru November 2010) Start of trenching operations for the offsite Sanitary Sewer Force Main pipe through the Caltrans Right of Way Page 1
The conflicts between the drainage infiltration system and the Joint Utility Trench improvements have been resolved and the plan revisions are currently being reviewed by Teichert Construction for cost and scheduling impacts. We anticipate that Teichert will submit a proposal for these plan revisions by 12/13/2010 for our review and that these matters can be quickly resolved and agreed upon so work within the Phase 1 area can recommence ASAP. A minor amount of work was performed in November to complete the wet utilities (Sanitary Sewer (SS), Storm Drain (SD) and Domestic Water (H2O)) for the Phase 1 area. All necessary preliminary pressure tests have been successfully completed for the pipelines and manholes. Teichert also completed the portion of the SS force main (SSFM) through the Caltrans Right of Way up to the jack and bore location where the SSFM will extend under the Union Pacific RR to the tie-in point in Soule Street. Work continued in the Phase 2A area for the Fifth Street tie-in to Tower Bridge Gateway through the Raley Field parking lot. By the end of November, all contaminated soils have been removed from this area and stockpiled in staging yard for future off haul to a suitable disposal site. Other misc. work performed or completed during the month of November 2010 included: Completion of the stage one concrete recycling operations. Installation and maintenance of the SWPPP measures around the project site to control erosion. Teichert installed a portion of the gravity sewer main between the SS Lift Station (SSLS) and Fifth Street. Teichert has submitted a dewatering plan for dewatering operations at the SSLS site and posted a sign notifying the public of the forthcoming dewatering operations. Following are photographs of construction of some of the work performed in November: 1. Installation of the SSFM through the Caltrans Right of Way: Page 2
Cover photo of the start of excavation for the SSFM under the Highway 50 ROW. Trench excavation for the SSFM Crew bolting up restraining joints for the SSFM pipe prior to installation. Page 3
SSFM pipe installation and initial backfill. Compaction of aggregate base ahead of repaving operations for the SSFM trench area through the Caltrans Maintenance Yard 2. Covered stockpile of contaminated soil awaiting off haul to a suitable disposal site. Page 4
3. Installation of the offsite gravity SS pipeline and posting of dewatering notice in preparation for work to begin on the SSLS project. Required notice of future dewatering operations. Page 5
Installation of the offsite gravity SS main between the SSLS and Fifth Street. LOOK-AHEAD SCHEDULE: During the month of December 2010 we anticipate that Teichert will submit proposed costs for plan revisions #1 thru #5 for our review. Hopefully we will be able to quickly reach resolution on the cost and scheduling impacts of these changes and recommence the critical path work in the Phase 1 area soon thereafter. Depending upon weather conditions, Teichert may begin the following operations during the month of December: Installation of the underground utilities (SS, SD & H2O) in the Phase 2A along Fifth Street in front of Raley Field. Begin dewatering operations for the SSLS. Begin installation of the SD outfall pipe. This report has been prepared and submitted by PMA, Inc. Please contact Gary Albertson at (916) if you have any questions or comments regarding the content. Page 6
