Pantazopoulou Spring 2009 CEE 325 Computer-Aided Structural Analysis P. Komodromos Spring 2009 RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Worked at the UCY, as a Research Assistant, for the period 01/ /2007 on a research project entitled: Earthquake-Induced Poundings of Seismically Isolated Structures. The project was funded by the European Commission under the Marie-Curie Actions. That research study was focused on the numerical simulation of seismically isolated buildings in two dimensions, subjected to earthquake excitations, having the possibility of pounding with the surrounding moat wall or other adjacent structures. For that cause, we used modern Object-Oriented Programming to develop our own software tool, able to perform large number of simulations in short time, thus allowing us to parametrically investigate the effects of potential poundings on the seismic response of seismically isolated buildings. Involved also, as a member of the Archimedes Laboratory research team at the UCY, on various other research topics such as ( ): - the numerical simulation of ancient multi-drum columns and colonnades under seismic excitations, using the Discrete Element Method, - the investigation of the suitability of using equivalent linear models to simulate seismic isolation systems - the utilization of modern Object-Oriented Design approaches on Structural Engineering Software development Dr. Panayiotis Polycarpou CV 3/10
4 Participated, as a volunteer, in an interesting research project that was entitled: Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) for Healthcare Applications in the academic year Contributed, specifically, with the development of a specialized Graphical User Interface, able to communicate with hi-tech electronic equipment (RFID readers and tags) and databases, using C# programming language. Worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UCY after composing a research proposal and finally gaining funding (146,200 Euros) by the European Union and the Research Promotion Foundation of Cyprus, for a 3-year research project that is entitled Three-dimensional numerical investigation of earthquake-induced poundings of buildings (12/ /2014).
