1 Product Description Jointofeu is manufactured from a woven mineral wool and installed into expansion joints with a heat resistant adhesive. It is suitable for both vertical and horizontal expansion joints with insulation and integrity requirements of up to 3 or 4 hours. Supplied coiled in sealed bags. Important Information Prior to the commencement of installation, all materials should be inspected for damage and any issues reported to Construction Specialties as soon as possible, so that replacement materials may be furnished without delay. All work must be completed as per drawings, and in accordance with these installation instructions. 4 Do Do use safety equipment Please refer to the relevant MSDS to ensure you are using the appropriate safety equipment to keep yourself and others out of harms way. Likewise remember to keep your working area clean and tidy as you progress. Do handle with care. Contact with the insulation will cause irritation. Please refer to the MSDS for appropriate protection. Do store material correctly Store the fire barrier insulation unopened in original packaging, in a cool and dry condition. The adhesive should be stored at a temperature between 5 o C and 25 o C and used before the expiry date found on the packaging. Do confirm the rope diameter It is imperative that the fire barrier selected is the correct size for the expansion joint opening on site and that the width is consistent along the length of the joint. All work must be completed as per these installation instructions. Installations that are not created as described cannot be assumed to create an effective fire barrier. 04 of 06

Eye protection Cut resistant gloves Disposable gloves Dust masks Hard hat Safety boots Hi-Viz clothing Goggles Protective overalls Markers / Pencils Tape measure Ground sheets Utility knife Wood saw Masking tape Wire brush Palette Knife Paint / adhesive mixer Site vacuum cleaner Cleaning products Preparation Substrate The substrate must be strong, clean, dry, free from sharp protrusions, dust or any other contaminants that could prevent the adhesive from bonding correctly. Use masking tape and/or ground sheets to protect any area surrounding the expansion joint from excess adhesive. Just prior to installation, open the adhesive container and mix the adhesive until it is a consistent colour and texture. Material We recommend that you plan out where the fire barrier will be placed to allow sufficient extra material for splices or transitions. Jointofeu is supplied in rolls of 18 or 20m and each join and transition will require a 200mm overlap, this not only affects the quantity required, but the depth of the joint will also need to be sufficient to accept two sections of material where they will overlap. Jointofeu can be easily cut using a utility knife or saw. It can help to compress the section that requires cutting with a board. Installation Method Apply the adhesive supplied with the fire barrier to both sides of the joint using a palette knife at the following rates. Once applied, smooth over the adhesive to create a more consistent application. If an expansion joint cover is to also be installed, the Jointofeu must be positioned so that they do not come into contact. Additionally, no other products can be allowed to interfere/pass through the Jointofeu e.g. drainage pipes. Note: The adhesive will require a minimum of 48 hours to fully cure at 20 o C. 05 of 06

6 Transitions / Splice The junction is made by using a small amount of adhesive (Approx. 30g) to join two overlapping lengths of fire barrier insulation. The overlap needs to be a minimum of 200mm so that the direction of fire would need to pass two lengths of insulation.
