New VORAGUARD TM Series Enable Ultra-Low Emission and Halogen-Free Products Dow has developed a new GUARD technology that provides manufacturers of flexible polyurethane foams for furniture, bedding and seating applications with a powerful solution to increase comfort levels and ease regulatory compliance, all while reducing raw material components and simplifying foam processing and storage. The new GUARD technology is the foundation for novel polymer polyols which exhibit excellent load-bearing and inherent flame retardant properties in addition to having ultra-low emission characteristics. Combining these features in one single product enables manufacturers to significantly enhance foam performance, resulting in benefits in all aspects of production and use. The performance and versatility of the new VORAGUARD TM products based on GUARD technology means that a single polymer polyol can be used to produce the entire product range without the addition of other flame retardant polyols or high solids co-polymer polyols. Hence, the innovation delivers unprecedented formulation flexibility to meet the industry s specific requirements for a wide range of end uses in high resilience foam production, while simplifying the product mix with one polyol taking the functionality of what used to be several product grades. Addressing the most stringent regulatory requirements, foam produced with the new VORAGUARD TM products provide excellent fire retardant properties, meaning that the polyol itself is designed to aiding extinguish the flame. This combined with ultra-low emissions enables the production of halogenfree combustion modified high resilience foam, meeting both severe flammability requirements such as Crib 5 and stringent emission requirements such as those set by LGA with one and same foam. Subsequently, consumers across Europe benefit from safer, cleaner, and more comfortable mattresses and furnishings. Unbreakable Chairs for Long Usage Life thanks to SPECTRIM TM Polyurethane Systems Dow offers a suitable range of SPECTRIM polyurethane systems for the production of high quality and high strength structural parts for furniture industry and technical items. The Dow solution is a state-of-the-art technology a one shot polymeric MDI, water blown and internal mold release system, in compliance with current reaction to fire codes. These structural foams can be used in a variety of applications from furniture, bathroom, jacuzzi and wellness equipment to air conditioning and marine boat equipment. Particularly, the IKS models of unbreakable chairs manufactured by company ILPO Srl, Italy, are using Dow SPECTRIM structural polyurethane systems. 3 ENERGY EFFICIENCY SOLUTIONS Sustainable Production of Energy-Efficient and Fire-Rated Construction Panels ENERGY EFFICIENCY SOLUTIONS Sustained Quality and Design Coupled with Productivity Improvements in Cold Chain Insulation Solutions VORATHERM TM CN 100 Halogen-Free Flame Retardant Technology for Top Euroclass Fire Rating Since recently, Dow has been offering to the European construction marketplace the unique VORATHERM TM CN 100 series featuring a halogen-free flame retardant technology and up to B-s1, d0 Euroclass fire-rating. By using this polyisocyanurate (PIR) technology from Dow, manufacturers of insulated metal panels by continuous process can now produce sandwich panels that meet stringent fire-reaction standards and sustainability requirements. During several in-field validations, the VORATHERM TM CN 100 series from Dow demonstrated excellent processability, panel quality and durability. With this solution Dow offers an exciting technology for metal insulated buildings and contributes to a more sustainable and energy-efficient building envelope. With this innovative technology, Dow continues the success of the established VORATHERM TM PIR product range that is known for its excellent fire properties, good thermal insulation, balanced processability, as well as remarkable panel quality and durability. Dow VORATHERM TM rigid foams are based on advanced formulation and material science know-how, and are designed to help address specific manufacturers requirements in terms of foam physical properties, processability and fire properties. The systems address the growing demand of PIR foam insulated panels by keeping high productivity, good processability and overall durability in panel end-use applications. Made happen with Dow PASCAL TM PRO technology! Together with industry leaders, Dow is combining custom tailored formulations and new or retrofitted vacuumassisted production equipment to help discontinuous panel manufacturers achieve a step-change in productivity and foam performance. PASCAL PRO Technology is a two-component novel polyurethane system specifically designed to work with an injection-under-reduced-pressure process. The combination of tailored polyurethane formulations and injection-underreduced-pressure process enables an effective and consistent cavity filling, and allows reduced applied density, demolding times, and thermal conductivity while maintaining optimal mechanical properties. As validated in field trials and depending on the blowing agent technology used, PASCAL PRO may deliver step-change performance and processing improvements, achieving 40% faster demolding time, 10% lower density and 5% improvement in thermal insulation. Did You Know That Dow Operates a Full Industrial-scale Development Center for Polyurethane Panels? Dow and SAIP have established a unique industrial-scale development center for sandwich panel manufacturers to develop polyurethane formulations and application solutions for the construction market, for instance in prefabricated housing. The name of the center is ce de pa which is an acronym that stands for Continuous Panel Development Center. As the global development center for continuous panels ce de pa is an enabler and contributor to the development of new solutions, and as such offering opportunities to the industry to work on new products and processes. Dow s and SAIP s development center helps to fully develop, prototype, test panels or innovate on the panel production process including our own Dow innovation e.g. new halogenfree PIR solution VORATHERM CN 100 series. Customers can certify panels before they start production also using a special agreement for fire performance tests with an external lab. Furthermore, pre-series manufacture and pre-marketing for new panel production and innovations are available in ce de pa. Last but not least, Dow and SAIP are also using ce de pa to collaborate with universities and technology centers as true innovation power houses. In addition, with the opportunity to train operators directly in ce de pa, test new equipment in advance as well as to test and certify new formulations in advance, ce de pa significantly contributes to mitigating the risk of investing into a new panel production line. 4 INDUSTRIAL SOLUTIONS INDUSTRIAL SOLUTIONS Low VOC Toughening Additive for Atmospheric Coatings VORASPEC 58 Urethane Acrylate is an innovative additive to toughen high solids epoxy systems. Within coating systems for atmospheric exposure, polyurethanes are suited to be used as primers, midcoats and topcoats. The trend towards low VOC coatings results in the usage of high solid systems. However, high solid systems have limited flexibility and therefore less durability. Consequently, toughening agents are being used to increase the durability of the system. VORASPEC 58 can be used as a toughening agent in high solid epoxy systems and offers differentiated performance versus incumbent technologies. Main applications are pipes for oil & gas, wind energy, marine, petrochemicals, bridges and tunnels in infrastructure. Olympic Artificial Turf Pitches Rely on Polyurethane Solutions from Dow Protective Spray Urethane Coatings for Marine, Concrete and Wood Applications VORASTAR TM 7000 system and components based on VORAPEL TM Hydrophobic Polyols As the usage of polyurea continues to grow, the need exists for polyurea coatings capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions including exposure to concentrated acids, caustics, and organic media. Seeking to meet this demand, Dow has developed a novel class of VORASTAR 7000 Polyurethane Spray Elastomer system and components based on VORAPEL hydrophobic polyols that can be used in marine and protective coatings, concrete coatings and wood coatings. VORASTAR 7000 polyurethane spray elastomer system is a new, high performance, two-component polyurea hybrid coating material providing enhanced chemical and moisture resistance in a wide range of industrial and infrastructure applications. Dow is offering an enhanced ENFORCER Sport polyurethane backing system that enables turf manufacturers to increase productivity, facilitates field installation, improves playing quality and offers beneficial sustainable attributes. Turf field owners benefit from the system with less thermal stress resulting in an improvement of yarn durability. Tufters utilizing the new system can process polyurethane on existing equipment with minimal modifications and the innovative technology allows for easy implementation. Did you know that Building on the success of the London 2012 Olympic Games experience, the innovative artificial turf solution package based on Dow s polyethylene (PE) and polyurethane (PU) technologies will be the official playing surface for hockey competitions during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, at the Deodoro Olympic Park. The VORASTAR 7000 polyurethane spray elastomer system is specially designed to be applied as a coating to protect concrete and steel used in the construction of pipelines and holding tanks to protect from chemical degradation, particularly those in high acid and high-moisture environments. It has excellent mechanical stability and maintains its flexibility and protective qualities in extreme conditions, including temperatures as low as -50 C. Due to its elastomeric properties, VORASTAR 7000 polyurethane spray elastomer system offers a good balance of strength and elongation, as well as strong abrasion and impact resistance. Its short cure time allows surfaces to quickly return to service after application. The spray elastomers have been formulated based on VORAPEL hydrophobic polyols. The systems can be modified by hydrophobic polyol addition to either prepolymer or resin blend. Hybrid polyurea elastomers based on VORAPEL polyols show resistance to hot water, and aqueous acids (HCl and H2SO4) as well as excellent retention of mechanical properties and adhesion after long term full immersion. Hydrocarbon resistance is not compromised by addition of the hydrophobic polyol. VORAPEL Hydrophobic Polyols feature: Low Viscosity Broad Compatibility Physical Strength Moisture Resistance Chemical Resistance VORAPEL polyols may be introduced into either the prepolymer component or resin component. The polyol lowers the resin viscosity and enables lower temperature spray processing. Potential applications are industrial flooring, waterproofing membranes, internal pipe lining, tank and vessel liners, secondary containment and marine coatings.

5 ENGINEERING ELASTOMERS ENGINEERING ELASTOMERS MBOCA-free Polyurethane Elastomers Provide Compliance with REACH to 2018 Safety first is a core value for Dow, so no surprise that with REACH regulations impacting the business we work in, Dow is acting to minimize the impact on their customers by developing innovative elastomer systems that are with us for the long term. The sun setting on the use of MBOCA (4,4 -Methylenebis- 2-Chlororaniline) under REACH regulations provides an opportunity for the industry to change the way it thinks about the material it uses and why. It is likely to be a difficult adaptation process for users to phase out MBOCA, and there is likely to be a need to adapt the process procedures to align to the reaction profiles that new technologies bring. At Dow, we have an extensive range of elastomer systems that do not use MBOCA and have already proved their functionality in many applications over the years from dynamic bend stiffeners used in the harsh offshore environment, pipeline scrapers to keep flow lines clear, to a variety of industrial components such as timing belts, rollers and tool handles. The versatility of urethane chemistry does mean that suitable alternative materials are available. The material selection will depend on application needs in terms of physical performance. MDI based technologies whether polyester or polyether have demonstrated that they are equal and if not better than those using TDI / MBOCA in wear resistance requirements such as pipeline scrapers or mining screens (DIPRANE TM 590) whilst MDI / PTMEG systems are significantly better than polyester TDI / amine cured elastomers and have been proven to outperform TDI/PTMEG in hot wet or humid environments, as can be experienced with our latest HYPERLAST TM Polyurethane Systems. Dow s DIPRANE TM and HYPERLAST TM polyurethane elastomer systems are compliant with REACH to 2018, all materials have now been supplied without Mercury catalysts for three years and the emphasis on MDI based technology means that there is an extensive opportunity to source experienced MBOCA-free solutions: HYPERLAST TM 152 series is a recent addition to the portfolio providing processors with a three component system capable of producing tough and durable elastomers from 55A to 75D. With low abrasion loss and high resilience this material offers potential in applications from aggregate screens to rollers and wheels. HYPERLAST TM 1052 series provides polyurethane processors with three component technology offering improved processing characteristics over HYPERLAST TM 201 series, allowing the end client to enjoy the enhancement of the mechanical properties in a wide variety of applications. DIPRANE TM 590 is the work-horse of polyester technology developed to bring improvements in processing and in field performance. While it is offered as a three component system a four component version exists to allow greater flexibility in processing latitude. DIPRANE TM 640 series has been developed with anti-static and fire retardant performance (FRAS) in mind. The elastomer has been optimized to be efficient in process time and while delivering the required FRAS properties also has excellent mechanical properties in terms of durability. As a leader in providing polyurethane elastomers to the Offshore Energy industry, Dow will introduce new materials which are free of Mboca and mercury for dynamic bend stiffener applications where the next generation materials allow more consistent design performance and improved temperature performance. In the Bend Restrictor applications area we introduce HYPERLAST TM LU 3000 offering improved modulus over the current grade allowing for design of lighter weight components, and HYPERLAST TM LU 3001 which has been designed to operate at higher temperatures. The bend limiter products have been designed with sight on customers achieving certification to American Petroleum Institute s specification for flexible pipe ancillary equipment (API 17L1).

6 INDUSTRIAL COMPOSITES Dow Empowers Buildings and Infrastructure with VORAFORCE TM Polyurethane Composite Systems UP 5 Building on its strength in material science, Dow is continuously expanding its composites portfolio with polyurethane systems developed for composites fabrication by filament winding, pultrusion and long fiber injection, striving to enhance the existing epoxy systems offering. 1 1 The latest additions to the portfolio are VORAFORCE TM TW 1100 series for filament-wound cylindrical structures like power and transmission poles.
