3 INTRODUCTION The Crown Trade Protective Coatings Cladding System has been specially developed for the refurbishment of pre-coated, weathered metal cladding. The system offers a hard-wearing, dependable finish developed as a result of Crown Paints vast experience in decorative coatings and our continual development in paint and colour technology. Crown Trade Protective Coatings Fast Drying Cladding Finish is a water-based, single pack coating developed specifically to have the superior adhesion required to refurbish pre-coated and weathered metal cladding. Two easy to apply coats can quickly transform cladding and other external features that have become weathered, dull and discoloured over time. Where the existing coating has failed, Fast Drying Cladding Finish can be used in conjunction with Crown Trade Protective Coatings High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer Undercoat to protect the bare, exposed metal from corrosion. The High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer Undercoat provides the perfect foundation for the Fast Drying Cladding Finish. It cures to a low sheen finish promoting excellent adhesion of the topcoat and is a very distinctive salmon pink colour which makes it easy to see where the primer has been applied and ensure that no areas have been missed. Two coats of new Crown Trade Fast Drying Cladding Finish are all that is required to bring weathered exterior metal cladding back to pristine condition. This system is designed to be very straightforward to apply using conventional brushes, rollers or spray equipment meaning no costly specialist training or application techniques are called for. Being water-based it has a quick drying time and also incorporates anti-mould properties. 5 FAST DRYING CLADDING FINISH IN ACTION Crown Trade s Protective Coatings Cladding System has scored great reviews from decorators across the UK - and now it has provided the winning formula on refurbishment works carried out recently at The John Smith s Stadium, home to both Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Club and Huddersfield Town Football Club. The system, comprising of Crown Trade Fast Drying Cladding Finish and Crown Trade High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer, has been used to breathe new life into the surfaces at the Stadium s away stand. A total of 100 litres of Crown Trade Fast Dry Cladding Finish and 35 litres of Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer were used on the project. Crown Trade Fast Drying Cladding Finish has been specifically developed to adhere to pre-coated and weathered metal cladding and other external features that have become dull and discoloured over time. The water-based formulation also offers a quick drying time, and incorporates anti-mould properties to maintain an attractive aesthetic finish for the longer term. Crown Trade Fast Drying Cladding Finish is available in a wide range of colours, and the Stadium were able to select a bespoke green shade in line with Heineken s John Smith s branding guidelines. 6 FAST DRYING CLADDING FINISH IN ACTION When a new trading company moved into a business unit on a busy Luton trading estate, the owners agreed to help them make their presence known. To help communicate to everyone in the vicinity that a new business had taken up residence, the exteriors were given a quick and cost effective makeover, as Mike Burton, director of Ellemby Contracts Ltd who are based in the West Midlands, reveals: The new owners wanted the frontage brightening up. The exterior cladding had a dark brown pre-coated PVC type finish that had become very dull over time and we were asked to give the place a much lighter, fresher look in line with the company s corporate identity. We used the new Fast Drying Cladding Finish from Crown Trade s new Protective Coatings range and got the job done in no time. Although the cladding was filthy, after scrubbing it down with deionised water we discovered the existing coating was still in pretty good condition and as there was no bare metal showing through we got straight on with the redecoration. We sprayapplied two coats of the new Fast Drying Cladding Finish straight onto the clean surface and were really impressed with the results. Compared with the silicone based metal coatings we normally use, this new finish was much easier and more pleasant for my team to work with. It s a straightforward one-pack waterbased coating with no activator to mess around with, and it s low odour too. We were able to use a smaller, lower pressure spray unit than normal and the pebble coloured coating went on beautifully, obliterating the original dark brown finish really well. Although it s a two coat system, the opacity was so good, we could almost have got away with one coat. As it was, the first coat was dry and ready for recoating in a just few hours. Before After We ve used a lot of different metal coatings over the years and we re all very impressed with Crown Trade s new formulation. It was hassle free, it gave us brilliant results and went on with an easy smooth application. It was also a lot more cost effective than the coatings we ve been using recently. Small refurb jobs like we did in Luton can be done in a day, start to finish. That powerful information has allowed Crown Paints to develop targeted improvement strategies that have reduced the footprint of many of our products.
