Generally, a MetalWorks perforated panel with acoustical fleece and fiberglass infill panel provides the strongest acoustical contribution, followed by Optima. 3 FORMATIONS Physical Data Material Mineral Fiber, Fiberglass, Metal Surface Finish Smooth Acoustics Panels made from mineral fiber, fiberglass and metal all offer specific Sabin contributions in providing Sound Absorption in your design (please refer to chart on page 5). Formations provide greater sound absorption than a continuous ceiling of the same surface area because the sound is absorbed from both the front and back surfaces of the cloud. The more live the space, the greater will be the effect on reverberation time from the addition of clouds. Fire Performance Formations, as with other architectural features located in the ceiling plane, may obstruct or skew the existing or planned fire sprinkler water distribution pattern, or possibly delay the activation of the fire sprinkler or fire detection system. Designers and installers are advised to consult a fire protection engineer, NFPA 13, and their local codes for guidance on the proper installation techniques where fire detection or suppression systems are present. Suspension System/Perimeter Treatment Formations Axiom is an integrated suspension and perimeter trim system, designed exclusively for Formations. There is a choice of a 2", 4" or 6" perimeter treatment. Design Considerations Formations should only be installed on a horizontal plane. They are not approved for exterior installations. Installation Considerations Formations should always be installed in accordance with all applicable building codes and regulations. Seismic Restraint Local building codes may require lateral restraint in certain locations. Such lateral restraints are not included in the Formations kit. Thanks to the unique StrongBack mounting system, mounting wires are recessed and there are fewer of them, truly offering a floating cloud for open plenum or acoustically-challenged spaces. 5 Formations Acoustics Testing Data Sound Absorption in Sabin Sabin Definition When it is important: A measure of sound absorption provided by a material when installed within an architectural space. The number of Sabin per unit is approximately equal to the total surface area of the unit (in sq. ft.) that is exposed to sound, multiplied by the absorption coefficient of the material. Formations provide greater sound absorption than a continuous ceiling of the same surface area because the sound is absorbed from both the front and back surfaces of the cloud. The more live the space, the greater will be the effect on reverberation time from the addition of clouds.
