1 LP-G Storage Tank Information & Checklist Building & Fire Safety Division Yakima County Public Services This informational checklist pertains to the design and installations for the storage or use of liquefied petroleum gases (LPG), such as propane or butane. A Fire Code Permit is required prior to the placement of a new tank, relocation, or change-out / replacement of an existing LP tank. NEW OR EXISTING MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT that will be fueled by the LP tank must have a valid permit. Prior permits for existing equipment must have had an approved final inspection OR a new permit will be required. To help expedite your application, please provide any prior permit information. Please review this entire handout regarding information for site plan requirements, tank size / setback requirements, etc. For change-out or replacing an existing LP tank, the new tank placement must meet the current setbacks and Fire Code Requirements. Additional Yakima County Handouts and Website Information that may be of assistance are: Site Plan Requirements handout for parcel information Typical Review and Approvals Timeframe: Upon receipt of a complete application, the process to obtain a permit to place a liquid fuel storage tank is dependent upon the complexity of your project, the information you provide, and the reviewing staffs workload at the time of application. *Some permits may be issued on the same day of application. Complex projects may require a separate review, permit and fees from other divisions. A few examples are: Flood Hazard review if a portion of your parcel is within the Flood Plain. Planning Division review for SEPA, Critical area, Land Use review. The following will require review and approval by the Yakima County Fire Marshal s Office Tanks used for re-fueling, or for commercial use. Tanks 1,000 gallons or more. Parcels located in the Extreme designated zone according to the (IWUIC) International Wildland-Urban Interface Code. *Upon review of your actual application and site plan, additional comments / reviews may be forthcoming.

The name, address, and phone number of the office of the lender administering the interim construction financing, if any: OR ii. The name and address of the firm that has issued a payment bond, if any, on behalf of the prime contractor for the protection of the owner, if the bond is for an amount not less than 50% of the total amount of the construction project. If for any reason the information requested below is not available at the time of application, the applicant shall provide the information as soon as it can be reasonably be obtained. To scale, topographical site plan showing the location of property lines, buildings and building 7. openings, roads and parking lots, fire hydrant and water supply systems, aboveground and underground tanks, security fences, piping, valves, fittings and related equipment. 8. Detailed design and engineering on storage containers or cylinders. 9. Location and type of equipment, control, hose, piping and tubing. 10. Method to achieve vehicle impact protection for containers, cylinders, piping, valves or fittings 11. Method to achieve wind loading, seismic protection and structural support for aboveground tanks and piping. 12. The make, model, type and listing of product compressor units, vaporizers, or similar equipment. 13. The design and specifications for product transfer and dispensing piping, valves and fittings. 14. The location, type, make and model of pressure relief devices, pressure regulators and shut-off valves. 15. The location, design and specifications of container fill and venting pipes and equipment. 16. The location and type of emergency impact valves. 17. Method to protect piping from physical damage, corrosion or external stresses. 18. The location and rating of fire protection equipment, especially water spray systems and portable fire extinguishers.
