1 GALE WAGNER, SCULPTOR SCOPE OF WORK My outdoor sculpture is always at play with gravity. Interplay with and through space develops a vitality in an ongoing dance with balance. A love for color and texture can be felt which adds to the inviting sense of order. The welded steel sculpture is a composition with four elements - flowerpot, tree, chameleon and dragonfly. These unified elements soar to a height of 17 feet. The cylindrical tree rises vertically out of the flowerpot and physically serves as a perch for a balancing chameleon. His outstretched tongue rises to greet a silhouetted winged dragonfly. Each component will be fabricated from cut pieces of pipe, tube, rod, flat stock, square stock, rebar and1/16 inch diamond plate. All joints and seams are beveled to a 45-degree angle, which allows for full penetration welds. This construction method maximizes strength, durability and longevity. All surfaces to be painted are first sandblasted, acid etched, primed and painted with the finest quality industrial paint system. Three different industrial paint systems with above average UV ratings are under consideration; Carboline, PPG s PSX 700, and Tnemec coating. The flowerpot will be fabricated from 5/16-inch steel with a lighter gauge stainless steel interior wall and drainage system. Two large boulders, one on each frontal side, will provide a natural vehicle barrier. The completed sculpture will be built in three segments, designed to include safe handling management for transportation and installation. First, the flowerpot will be placed on the steel anchoring system embedded in the concrete foundation (engineered and signed off by a licensed California engineer and constructed by a licensed contractor). Next, the tree base, with attached chameleon, will be positioned within the flowerpot and secured by a heavy bolting system, securing both flowerpot and tree assembly to the heavy steel base. Lastly, the head and tongue assembly with attached dragonfly will be inserted into an internal locking system.

2 The dragonfly s final form and material will be resolved as the sculpture evolves. There are several material options including steel, bronze, stainless, aluminum or a combination of these materials. The end result will be a balanced level silhouetted dragonfly in the viewer s sky. INSTALLATION OF SCULPTURE I have been managing every detail involved with the design, fabrication, transportation and installation of large-scale sculpture for fifty years. Safety compliance, project coordination, traffic management and a competent crew will be successfully delivered. Installation of the steel sculpture is estimated to take two hours. The ideal timeframe for installation would be from 9:30-11:30 am on a weekday to avoid heavy traffic and pedestrian activity for ease in completion. LIGHTING PLAN A lighting plan was discussed with Tim Wolf, Project Manager with W. Bradley Electric. Six ground-level fixtures will be installed for $15, LANDSCAPING A landscape plan was discussed with Alfred Lee, Project Manager with Suarez & Munoz, Landscape Contractor. Two large protective boulders will be purchased, delivered and installed for $3, MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE The maintenance plan is a simple annual washing of the sculpture to extend the color vibrancy and paint longevity. FINAL NOTES Included with this proposal are images of previous installations in and around the San Francisco Bay Area and a letter of reference from the Chief Curator of Art at the Oakland Museum.
