1 Facade system Thermo with superior insulation (RMG 1) SFB 41 The new Thermo insulated facade system is our most advanced yet. The insulation capacity of the facade sections have been optimised, and easily meets the requirement for RMG 1 according to the DIN 418 standard. The system also fulfils the high functional requirements of todays market. Thermo has been developed especially for those situations where narrow and solid profiles with the highest insulation capacity is required. The design work has been based on the many years of experience from the use of the existing systems and on the latest technologies used in the production of the individual components. The sections are mm wide, and the depth ranges from 35 mm to 2 mm. The glass rebate is ventilated and drained, and provides space for double or triple glazing units. The SFB 41 system is available in the form of standard facade sections as well as I & T sections with special design. The I & T sections have been developed especially for those projects where an unusual, structural appearance of the facade is required on the inside. Thermo can be completed with various opening elements, such as inward/outward opening doors, inward/outward opening windows, facade windows, and block windows. The elements are installed together with the specially adapted frame in the glass rebate instead of glazing units. The sections can be anodized or powder coated with various colours and type of surface finish on the inside and on the outside. Surface finish: see chapter J. D 12

3 Facade system with superior insulation SFB 46 Facade system SFB 46 has been tested during its many years presence on the market. It meets the high functional requirements of the market. Due to its construction SFB 46 provides superior insulation over the section, including the glass zone. The sections are 6 mm wide and to 16 mm deep. The glass rebate is ventilated and drained, and provides space for double or triple glazing units. The U-value in parapet walls, ranges from.48 to.17 W/m 2 K, depending on the section depth. SFB 46 can be easily completed with doors and opening windows. Doors and windows are installed together with the frame in the glass rebate instead of glazing units. 5 System Glazing facade system with mini glazing beads SFB System Glazing facade system SFB, with mini glazing beads, is a newly developed facade system based on sections and functions of the glazed roof system SFB. The system has a two-stage pressure equalising seal. The outer seal is water-repellent, the ventilation and draining channels ensure pressure equalising function and the inner seal is air-, water-, and vapour-tight. The inner seal takes up the pressure difference between the outside and the inside. The sections are mm wide with mm wide mini glazing beads which should be preferably fixed with counter- sunk screws. The glass rebate provides space for double glazing units. The glazing units have standard sealing. Horizontal, vertical and dividing sections are available in various depths. Vertical dividing sections have the same width as the framework sections, i.e. mm. SFB can be easily completed with doors and opening windows. Doors and windows are installed together with the frame in the glass rebate instead of glazing units. 7 Create a facade with your own design Your fantasy, your time, and some courage! Nothing else is needed on your part for the facade of the building that you design to get exterior and/or interior which breaks with the standards. The rest will be solved by us at Sapa Architectural Systems. We will make sure that the facade has (all) the prescribed properties - as well as all properties required by your customer and by you. Of course, all this within the confines of the possibilities, which are extremely wide! D 18

The window is available in top hung or side hung using friction stays with double glazing unit. The outer glass of the glazing unit is cantilevered and glued to the sash section. On the side of the sash section the glass is secured with a protective section which covers approx. 5 mm of the glass around the perimeter. The protective section is anodised in black as standard in order to match the dark part of the glass. Securistyle window fittings are hidden between the frame and the sash. D 2

11 Functional requirements for facades A facade should be designed so as to fulfil a number of different functional requirements, such as: Load requirements: Wind load Dead weight Tightness requirements Air tightness Water tightness Diffusion tightness Tightness Facades should be tight in many ways. Rain and wind must not penetrate the facade from the outside, and moisture must not penetrate into the facade from the inside. If moisture gets into the facade, it should be constructed in such a way that enables ventilation/ drainage of moisture to the outside. Energy saving requirements: U-values Excessive heat / cooling Ventilation requirements: Comfort ventilation Smoke ventilation Service and maintenance: Cleaning Durability Personal safety Fire A facade should be generally made from incombustible materials. The vertical distance between windows in different fire cells should be at least 1.2 m, unless the fire resistance class of the windows within this distance is at least E 3. Any smoke shutters/windows should be dimensioned according to the needs. Fire protection requirements: Fire partitions Preventing fire propagation Sound insulation: Airborne sounds Traffic noise Ventilation For comfort ventilation, evacuation, or smoke ventilation inward or outward opening windows may be chosen, which suit the function and the appearance of the facade in the best way. The number of windows in the facade is dimensioned according to the individual functions. D 22

12 C +2C C -1C Energy saving In order to meet the energy saving requirements the facade should fulfil the thermal insulation and air tightness requirements. For the heat loss and air tightness limits. Parapet walls, tight part of the facade systems in Sapa Architectural Systems, have U-values ranging from.7 to.14 W/m 2 K. Glass rebates for double or triple glazing units have U-values as low as.8 W/m 2 K. Sound insulation A facade should be dimensioned and designed with regard to existing noise sources and in a way which limits the occurrence and propagation of disturbing noise. The factors, which determine the overall sound insulation of a building from the environment, include the construction of the facade, the sound insulation properties of the windows, and the fitting and sealing of the window in the facade. Maintenance In order to ensure easy service and maintenance of the facade, appropriate devices should be designed in connection with the facade. If the outside surface cannot be reached from a ladder or a skylift, some form of facade lift/service carriage is recommended. Sunshine protection High inside temperature, unwanted heat radiation from the sun, and the dazzling risk can be prevented/reduced if some form of sunshine protection is used. This can be in principle arranged on the outside of the facade, in the glass, or on the inside of the facade. The most convenient solution is to provide sunshine protection in the glass. If sunshine protection is required, it should be designed in connection with the facade. Quality assurance Products included in Sapa Architectural Systems are approved for P-marking, which gives the architectural system producers a possibility to offer constructions that meet the quality assurance requirements of the market.
