4 INTRODUCTION Welcome to the product brochure from MGF, the specialist provider of Excavation Safety Solutions to the construction industry. This brochure details the products and services we provide for our customers, comprising of excavation support systems and ancillary products, confined space entry equipment and pipe stoppers. ABOUT US With over 35 years of experience, MGF is a privately owned company whose primary focus is the provision of a fully engineered excavation support service. At MGF, we combine technical expertise and operational performance to ensure the highest levels of customer service. With a focus on developing and promoting industry best practice in excavation safety we aim to assist our customers in creating safe working environments for their employees. OUR BUSINESS IS FOUNDED ON THREE CORE VALUES: Commitment to deliver exceptional customer service and support. Innovation in products, processes, services and support. We provide service to the customer using wholly in-house resources: All staff are directly employed and with our substantial investment in training we have the expertise necessary in the specific sector. We provide national coverage through our network of fully facilitated Hire Centres with extensive fleet stocks ensuring both the quality and availability of equipment. We design and manufacture our entire shoring range in-house, providing in depth knowledge of in service product performance. Additionally, we are able to offer a bespoke manufacturing service to satisfy individual project requirements and provide added value solutions. We operate our own transport fleet yielding logistical control of our operations and the flexibility to respond rapidly to meet customer delivery requirements. Our engineering team provides a comprehensive temporary works design service in support of the hire and sale of our products. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT The hire and sale of our products is fully supported by our team of qualified engineers, experienced Technical Sales Representatives, hire desk and operational staff. Our Hire Centres provide the focal point for service delivery where our hire desk staff will be pleased to receive your enquiry. 4

5 Operating from our Hire Centres are a team of Technical Sales Representatives whose role is to provide the customer with cradle to grave project support including: Site visits to provide advice and assess requirements. Assisting in production of design briefs and managing the interface with Design Services. Providing equipment demonstrations and training sessions. Arranging access to the MGF Extranet online account management system. To further support the customer in creating a safe working environment, MGF have introduced a Site Safety Pack which is issued to all new projects. This pack contains: 3D CAD Safe Systems of Work Installation Guides for our range of shoring products. These are produced on waterproof non-tear paper making them particularly suited for site conditions. Safe Systems of Work guidance booklet for Shoring Ancillaries. In addition to the above, we have introduced our award winning Digital Animated Installation Guides. These three minute videos are particularly useful for customers delivering Tool Box Talk training sessions on the safe installation of excavation shoring and are available via our website and YouTube channel. Assurance for MGF products and services is provided through the accreditation of MGF Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems to ISO 9001, OHSAS and ISO respectively. Additionally, we maintain registration with Achilles UVDB, Verify, Link-Up and Constructionline Supplier portals. We sit on the Steering Group of TOPIC - Training on Plant in Construction and we are founding members of the Temporary Works Forum. We also work with a number of specialist providers, including CITB, for provision of training in excavation shoring. DESIGN SERVICES Dedicated technical sales and after care teams. MGF provide a comprehensive Temporary Works Design Service in support of the hire and sale of our shoring products. Our Engineering Team comprises 26 qualified civil, structural and mechanical engineers who produce some 4500 temporary works designs per year. The majority of design work is undertaken at Foundation House, our new Engineering Centre at Astley, Manchester. This capability is further enhanced through regionally based engineers who provide both design service and customer support. MGF also provide a tendering and bespoke design service for major projects such as basement propping and other large scale excavations, assisting the customer to win business through the quality of our technical submissions. MGF design process is managed through a paperless electronic system with in-built quality, competence and compliance checks in accordance with industry best practice. In addition to detailed design calculations, our standard design deliverable is an Integrated Design and Installation Drawing which provides the customer with equipment layout, sequence for safe installation and residual risk register on a single drawing format. MGF have sector leading digital engineering capability having achieved Level 2 Supply Chain BIM Compliance. MGF s online CAD centre provides downloadable 2D and 3D CAD blocks as well as BIM Compliant Revit families (Revit, Sketch-Up, Auto CAD). 14 KING POST AND PANELS Steel column king posts with steel in-fill panels are an ideal solution for single sided retaining walls or basement type excavations. Particularly suitable for sites where it is not feasible to drive sheet piles or where a clear working area is essential to allow construction of the works. 15 MGF Hydraulic Walers and Struts are a two-sided hydraulic bracing system combining fixed length waler rails with hydraulic struts. WALERS AND STRUTS Designed for use with steel trench sheets to horizontally brace trenches for the safe installation of utilities. Robust and simple to assemble with pinned connections, and 2 lifting points on each waler rail for ease of handling. Compatible with MGF single-acting bucket pump, End Protection struts, Endsafe panels, lifting and restraining chains. 18 HYDRAULIC BRACING MGF hydraulic bracing systems are highly versatile and provide a suitable support solution for a large variety of applications. Designed for use with steel trench sheets and sheet piles to form cofferdams of various sizes and shapes. When combined with MGF bracing struts any size of excavation can be supported. Robust and simple to assemble with bolted connections and a pin and clip arrangement. Hydraulic cylinders are included in each brace leg to allow fine adjustment of frame size. Lifting / restraining lugs on each component for ease of handling. Brace leg extensions can also be used as waler rails for large trenches and wall support. 24 BRACING STRUTS Highly versatile, simple to assemble range of medium and heavy duty bracing struts, for raking, horizontal and knee brace propping applications to steel, masonry and concrete structures. Fully compatible with MGF UC Brace and other bespoke manufactured systems. Each strut comprises either a mechanical screw jack or double acting hydraulic cylinder for fine adjustment with fixed length extensions available in m length increments. Various end details and support brackets, including swivels, cleats and shear stops allow props to be configured in any plane. Lifting lugs on each strut component allow ease of handling. 30 TRENCH SHEETS, PILES AND ANCILLARIES Our nationwide network of depots provides a comprehensive and highly reactive service for the supply of hot and cold rolled piling products. We stock an extensive range of hot rolled U Piles including Arcelor Mittal and Hoesch, making us the largest independent stockist in the UK. Cold rolled products are manufactured at our Yorkshire facility and can be delivered directly to site from production through our in-house haulage services. 30

84 CASE STUDIES Project: Ecostore Rail Unload Building Location: Drax Power Station, Selby Main Contractor: Shepherd Construction Client: Volker Ground Engineering Programme: 24 weeks Solution: Complex steel piled cofferdam support comprising three levels of MGF 406 UC Brace and 28 No. 250t hydraulic struts Key Features Complex cofferdam to tight timescale. Effective collaboration between MGF, Volker Ground Engineering, permanent works designers and main contractor, Shepherd Construction. MGF modelled REVIT design in autodesk allowing effective demonstration and engagement with Volker Ground Engineering and the wider project team. The Project The scheme at Drax was originally designed with four levels of temporary framing which was to be welded in-situ. Construction constraints within the final excavated cofferdam structure meant that long steel sections were unable to be lowered and placed without considerable health and safety implications for the lifting and placement operations. The modular MGF system gave a degree of flexibility in the operation which led to a safer system of work and reduced programme installation time. The modular frame design was modelled in Autodesk REVIT, software specifically built for BIM, which enabled MGF to demonstrate all aspects of the scheme to the Project Team at the pre-construction stage. During pre-construction discussions and meetings, the Company s 3D computer modelling enabled us to convey the concept and construction methods that were envisaged, which provided a higher level of confidence in the equipment and thus eased the approval process. Once the construction phase commenced over the winter of 2012, our site staff were able to draw upon the support of the MGF design and field services personnel which ensured the successful delivery of the system to provide the required support to a complicated basement structure.
