1. Introduction 1.1 Product & Manual Information The aim of this document is to provide an instruction manual to the installers and users of this equipment. It is not a training document and assumes that all operatives using this equipment are fully trained and competent in the use of this equipment and asbestos removal. Training can be provided upon request (this may or may not be subject to a charge). We also aim to provide you with a clear and concise method of installation as well as informing you of the parts that make up the complete system. AMS modular Decontamination Units (DCU s) are manufactured to a high standard using material that can be easily cleaned down and minimising dust traps grooves and ledges. The system is designed for connection to a mains-water supply, however, it can be used directly from the tank but this will be limited to one shower at a time. A water tank and pump system can be added to replace a mains water supply (information on request). Installation time can vary between minutes depending on experience. 1.2 Compliance AMS modular Decontamination Units (DCU s) are manufactured to a high standard using material that can be easily cleaned down and minimising dust traps grooves and ledges. We have adopted the Minimum Design Criteria for Asbestos Hygiene Units (appendix 8.1 HSG247) in accordance with Asbestos: The Licensed contractors guide HSG247 (United Kingdom Specific) 1.3 General Decontamination Information Types of DCU: It is mandatory to have a decontamination facility whilst carrying out licensed asbestos removal work. This document refers to modulars only but other types of DCU include mobile caravans and fixed temporary or permanent installations. Choosing a Modular as Opposed to Other DCU Methods: Modulars are used as a preference for a variety of reasons including; when space is tight, to prevent transiting, easily transported and located inside buildings, easily attached directly to the enclosure via conventional doorways and they are self contained. Page 4 of 10
The system is designed for connection to a mains-water supply, however, it can be used directly from the tank but this will be limited to one shower at a time. A water bowser or a pumped tank can be added to replace a mains water supply (information on request) 2. Installation 2.1 Minimum Pre-Site Checks (undertaken by you) The site must be checked for suitability of a DCU, in particular the best installation location should be determined by the location and accessibility of the enclosure. The unit must be installed level, therefore good flat solid ground is required with adequate headroom and side access for connecting the equipment. If the floor area is not flat, a platform could be built and if the side room is not wide enough for locating the equipment, longer hoses could be used refer below. The diagram below gives an indication of areas required. If the equipment needs to be stored on site before installation, a suitable secure and waterproof storage compound would need to be provided. 2.2 Receiving the equipment Upon receipt, it is essential that you check the modular system / equipment to ensure that all parts are present and that everything is in working order. To assist you with this we detail below the main component parts and in addition a parts list is given on page 7. Page 5 of 10
2.3 Main Components Ten panels form the walls of the modular system; all panels are described in the parts list. 4: Clean Area Door Panel labelled CLEAN with closable air inlet grille located at top and bottom. 5: Clean Area Wall Panel 6: Clean Area Wall Panel 7: clean/shower Door panel between clean and shower area with an air inlet grille located at top & bottom 8: Shower Area Wall Panel 9: Shower area Wall Panel with shower-head, water inlet and water pick-up (items can be fixed or separate) 10: Shower / dirty Door panel from shower to dirty area with two closable air inlet grilles 11: Dirty area Wall Panel 12: Dirty area Wall Panel 13: Dirty Door Panel Labelled DIRTY with two closable grilles Floor Panels Three panels form the floor Roof Panels Three panels form the Roof There are 16 main panels that form this modular (plus additional component parts making a total of 34 pieces in accordance with the parts list) Page 6 of 10

All modular units are checked before being shipped. 2.4 Installation Procedure Main Panels The below diagrams indicates where each panel is located. Having carried out the pre-site checks, locate and place the floor panels and then systematically add the first door, wall and roof panels. You may find it easier working from the dirty door (panel 13) backwards when the modular is attached to the enclosure, however, the numbering commences at number 4 from the CLEAN end. You must make sure the floor panels are level, otherwise the evacuation of wastewater will be a problem. It will be essential to use a spirit level and use levelling packers if necessary or erect a timber platform. Page 7 of 10
Page 8 of 10
Step-by-Step Installation of Main Panels (working from panel 10 backwards) Lay all 3 x floor panels in a line located as close to the enclosure line as possible Level the floor panel one using a spirit level Fit 2 x aluminium corner posts to the inner groove of the dirty door (panel 13) Fit door panel 13 over the outside edge of floor panel one (ensuring that the door label Dirty is on the outside Fit wall panel 12 into the corner posts and the floor panel one Fit wall panel 11 into place as above Level floor panel two (this is absolutely essential for the collection of water) Fit 2 x aluminium corner posts as above Ensure door panel 10 has the flaps in the dirty area Fit door panel 10 over floor panels one and two Fit 2 x aluminium corner posts to door panel 10 and floor panel two Fit wall panel 9 into the corner post and floor panel two Fit wall panel 8 into place as above Level floor panel 3 using the spirit level Fit 2 x aluminium corner posts as above Ensure door panel 7 opens the same way as door panel 10, opens in to clean end Fit door panel 7 over floor panels two and three Fit 2 x aluminium corner posts to door panel 7 and floor panel three Fit wall panel 6 into the corner posts and floor panel three Fit wall panel 5 as above Fit door panel 4 into position Fit roof panel one, two and three (you may prefer to fit these as you complete each cube) Main Panels Complete Having completed the main panels you should be ready to install all the internal equipment. Internal Equipment Place the rubber mats into each floor panel and the shower platform Mains water inlet with shower valve can be installed on panel no 5 & 11, the top holes in panel should be used for this. The shower head holder can be installed on panel no 5 & 11 Install the hooks on panel no 5 & 11. Install Waste pick-up on panel no 5 & 11 Page 9 of 10
Ready to Use & if there is a Problem The modular unit is now ready to use, however, if you have any problems we request you to contact one of the AMS offices detailed on page two of this document for further advice and assistance. You should also consider the following. Page 10 of 10
