The Almighty Wimba Tree By Ruby A., Jesse, Sabrina, Sophie and Emel
The Amazing Amazon Rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world. It is in Brazil, South America. There are four layers in the Rainforest called the forest floor, the understory, canopy and the emergent layer. The forest floor does not get much sunlight because it is the bottom layer and the trees block the sun and it only gets 2% of the sunlight. The next layer is the understory, there isn t much sunlight because it is the second layer from the bottom. Lots of animals live there like snakes, frogs and iguanas. The next layer up is the canopy. The canopy has lots and lots of animals like sloths, toucans, woolly monkeys and squirrel monkeys. The highest layer is the emergent layer and this is where most of the colourful birds like scarlet macaws, harpy eagles and other birds live. This is a story about the Wimba tree which reaches the top of the emergent layer.
Two ladies named Maia and Skipper and a dog name Chi Chi drove in a humungous van, a speedy one too. When they got out, they heard splashing waterfalls. Maia saw the almighty Wimba tree and she nodded at it then ran speedily out of the rainforest. Skipper got her chainsaw out of the van s boot. When she turned it on it sounded like a motor bike starting up. The chainsaw went crunch! Crunch! Brrrr! Brrrr!
After a while, she got tired so she reached down, got her water bottle out and drank. But she still felt tired so she laid down against the tree and fell asleep from the lullaby of the tweeting chicks and calling crickets.
A few minutes later, an evil Eye Lash viper appeared and hissed: If you cut down this tree my afternoon snack will disappear and the only thing left to eat is well, you know, you! and he slithered away into the night.
After that leaped a camouflaged jaguar. The jaguar growled in Skipper s ear, Hey you, yeah you, you better not cut down this tree, I wait there before I strike so please don t cut it down. The jaguar padded away.
Then a flock of colourful scarlet macaws gracefully glided from the emergent layer to the sleeping woman. One of the Scarlet Macaws squawked softly in the sleeping woman s ear, If you cut this tree down, the leaves will die and we won t have any food to eat, squawked the Scarlet Macaw.
Then one Blue Morpho butterfly, as blue as the sea, speedily flew from the canopy to the sleeping woman. She squeaked in her ear, If you cut this tree down the chrysalis will fall and break, She fluttered back up to the canopy.
Soon after a little child from the Amerindian tribe wandered into the rainforest, saw Skipper and whispered, After listening to the animals, I hope you wake up and see us with new eyes, the child then walked off. A few minutes later Skipper woke up.
She saw flowers and leaves, she heard nothing, she smelt the beautiful flowers and she felt Chi Chi stretching. She stood up and Chi Chi ran into the van. She picked up the chainsaw and started cutting down the tree again. She stopped and she looked around her, saw the amazing animals standing and looking at her. She looked at all of them one by one and dropped the chainsaw, climbed into the van and drove off out of the Amazing rainforest. All the animals were dancing and jumping about in excitement, running around happily. Howler monkeys started howling and croaking frogs began croaking. Everyone was happy that the tree did not fall down.
Dear Readers, We wrote this story because we want to save the animals from deforestation. Because trees give us oxygen and if the trees are not there the animals will not breathe and we won t have any rainforest animals. All the reasons that the animals gave were true. We are not printing this out because if we do we will cause deforestation because paper comes from trees. This story is an E book. Skipper has fallen asleep and lots of animals whispered in her ear not to cut down the tree or they will have nothing to eat for winter. So will the animals persuade Skipper to not cut down the tree? PLEASE SAVE THE AMAZING AMAZON RAINFOREST!!
